Clemens went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in Thursday's 8-6 loss to the Royals.
Clemens gave Minnesota an offensive jolt Thursday by taking Seth Lugo deep twice, with both blasts coming as solo shots. The homers were his seventh and eighth of the season and marked the second multi-homer game of his major-league career. The versatile infielder continues to swing a hot bat, going deep four times over his last eight games. Since May 10, Clemens is batting 25-for-87 (.287) with an .828 OPS across 22 contests.

Twins' Kody Clemens: Receiving day off versus righty
Clemens is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.
Most of Clemens' absences from the lineup this season have come against left-handed pitching, but he'll get a breather Wednesday while the White Sox send righty Erick Fedde to the hill for a day game after a night game. Clemens had started in every game for the Twins dating back to May 15, slashing .239/.280/.437 with two home runs, eight RBI and seven runs over that 18-game stretch. The 30-year-old had seen playing time at all three outfield spots as well as first base and second base during that period, but he's likely to receive most of his starts at first base moving forward now that Byron Buxton is back to playing center field on a more regular basis.

Twins' Kody Clemens: Homers in rare CF start
Clemens went 1-for-3 with a solo home run during Wednesday's Twins' 15-2 loss against the White Sox.
Clemens smoked a home run to right field off of Brandon Eisert in the eighth inning of the blowout for his fifth long ball of the season. The first baseman made his second career start in center field but isn't likely to gain positional eligibility anytime soon with Byron Buxton, who served as the DH on Wednesday, staying mostly healthy so far this year. The 30-year-old Clemens boosted his slash line to .233/.317/.418 with five steals, five home runs, 15 RBI and 18 runs scored across 166 plate appearances this season.

Clemens went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored during the Twins' 5-4 win over the Guardians on Sunday.
Clemens logged the first run of Sunday's game after scoring on a wild pitch in the third frame, and he crossed home plate a second time on an RBI single from Brooks Lee in the fifth. Clemens' three hits were a season high and his fourth multi-hit game of the season. He is slashing .209/.321/.374 with five steals, three home runs, nine RBI and 13 runs scored across 108 plate appearances this season.

Clemens showed out at the plate, reaching base three times after having gotten on in just two of his first 10 plate appearances entering Thursday. The 29-year-old added insurance in the ninth inning with his first home run of the season, a 391-foot solo shot off Steven Cruz that extended the Twins' lead to three runs. Thursday's performance seemed to reinforce the confidence that Clemens built during his 2025 breakout campaign, when he posted a .715 OPS with 19 home runs across 386 plate appearances.

After taking a seat against lefty Trevor Rogers in Thursday's season opener, Clemens has now handled the leadoff role in two straight contests against righties. At least for the early part of the season, Clemens looks set to occupy the strong side of a platoon at first base, with Victor Caratini having received the nod at the position in the Twins' lone matchup with a lefty thus far.

Twins' Kody Clemens: No clear path to regular role
Clemens doesn't appear to have a set regular role in the lineup with the Twins signing Josh Bell and with several left-handed outfielders on the roster, Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic reports.
Clemens began the offseason looking like the team's starter at first base or at least the left-handed part of a platoon at the position. However, the Twins may not want to use Trevor Larnach in the outfield rather than DH against lefties, which would move Bell to first base, and Luke Keaschall looks set to play second base. Clemens hit .216/.284/.442 with 19 home runs last season in a breakout season and made significant strides in his batted-ball metrics with a 48.3 percent hard-hit rate and 12 percent barrel rate. His ability to play second base and first base should help find ways to get him into the lineup eventually, but he may find few at-bats early in the season unless the Twins trade a left-handed-hitting outfielder.

Twins' Kody Clemens: Set up as primary first baseman
Twins president of baseball operations Derek Falvey has indicated that Clemens is in line to be the team's primary first baseman next season, Aaron Gleeman and Dan Hayes of The Athletic report.
Clemens was traded to the Twins in late April and went on to slash .216/.284/.442 with 19 home runs over 112 contests. He split most of his reps between first base (47 starts) and second base (34 starts) during his time in Minnesota but also saw some action in the outfield (12 starts). Clemens is just a .206/.263/.403 career hitter and will turn 30 in May, but he took significant strides in his batted-ball metrics in 2025, sporting a 48.3 percent hard-hit rate and 12 percent barrel rate. Fellow left-handed hitter Edouard Julien is likely Clemens' primary competition for the first base job against righties, and neither player has minor-league options remaining.

It was the first career multi-homer game for Clemens, who also established a career high in RBI. The lefty-hitting Clemens should continue to see the bulk of the reps at first base for the Twins to wrap up the campaign, especially if he continues to perform well. While he's hitting just .236 over his last 17 outings, Clemens has six big flies, one double and 10 RBI over that stretch to improve his OPS to .740 for the season.
