White Sox's Davis Martin: Seven strikeouts in fourth win

Martin (4-1) earned the win Tuesday against the Angels, allowing one run on seven hits and one walk with seven strikeouts across 5.2 innings.
The right-hander continues to dazzle for Chicago, as Martin has posted back-to-back seven-strikeout outings and wraps up his April having allowed just five earned runs across 32 innings to go along with a 27:6 K:BB. His 2.86 FIP suggests Martin's results are legit after he outdueled Jose Soriano on Tuesday. Martin is throwing his fastball less this season and has upped the usage on his sinker, slider and changeup. Martin is scheduled to again face the Angels on the road next week for his next start.

Martin took a no-decision Thursday against the Diamondbacks, allowing one run on six hits and one walk in 6.1 innings. He struck out seven.
The 29-year-old right-hander continues to be a bright spot for White Sox to begin the 2026 campaign. Martin fanned a season-high seven Thursday, spinning at least six frames while yielding two runs or fewer in his fourth consecutive start. He holds an outstanding 2.01 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 26:7 K:BB over 31.1 innings thus far, so Martin will be hoping to keep the good times rolling in his next scheduled outing versus the Angels.

Martin doesn't possess the best stuff, but he's been able to locate his pitches through four starts and is eating innings for Chicago. Martin has now gone seven innings in back-to-back starts against the Royals and Athletics and has done so on fewer than 90 pitches both times. The 29-year-old lowered his ERA to 2.16 and owns a 19:6 K:BB across 25 innings. He's slated to face the Diamondbacks in Arizona next week.

Martin (2-1) took the loss Friday against the Royals, allowing two runs seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts across seven innings.
Martin was terrific again Friday, but Kris Bubic was better, as Bubic fanned a career-high 11 batters across seven shutout innings. Martin's blemishes were an RBI double allowed to Bobby Witt in the fourth and a solo shot given up to Carter Jensen in the seventh. Martin has now posted back-to-back strong outings after he went six shutout frames in a win over the Blue Jays last weekend. Through three starts, Martin owns a 2.50 ERA and 15:4 K:BB across 18 innings. He's tentatively in line to face the Rays at home Thursday.

Martin wasn't spectacular in his season debut, but he received plenty of run support and was able to nab his first win of the year. The right-hander wasn't particularly efficient either, throwing just 54 of his 92 pitches for strikes, and three of his hits given up went for extra bases. Martin's next start is scheduled for this weekend at home versus the Blue Jays, making him difficult to trust in fantasy lineups in a tough matchup.

Martin has had mixed results this spring, but he settled into a groove during Saturday's appearance. He threw 32 strikes on 50 pitches, while generating punchouts of Brendan Donovan, Luke Raley and Mitch Garver. The White Sox have made little known about their rotation plans to this point in the spring, though Martin's ramp-up suggests he has a good chance of securing a spot to begin the 2026 campaign.

Martin labored through the opening frame, needing 26 pitches to complete the inning, with a run coming across before he was able to escape. The right-hander later gave up back-to-back singles in the fifth inning before being lifted, and both runners eventually came around to score. It was just the third time all season that Martin failed to complete five innings in 25 starts. The Chicago right-hander made quick work of the Padres to tally his ninth quality start, completing his six frames on 77 pitches. Davis contained his opponent by generating a 55.0 percent groundball rate, with the three runs allowed scoring on two singles and a groundout. Across 138.1 total innings this season, the 28-year-old now sports a 4.03 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 99:46 K:BB while producing a 44.7 percent groundball rate. Martin currently lines up for a difficult test in his final start of 2025, which projects to come on the road against the Yankees.

Martin nabbed his second quality start in his last eight appearances and picked up a win in his third straight decision. He didn't allow a home run Tuesday after yielding four long balls across his prior two outings. In his last eight starts, Martin has a 4.57 ERA and 36:22 K:BB across 41.1 innings. Martin allowed four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out five over 3.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Thursday.
Martin gave up a two-run home run to Cody Bellinger in the first inning and yielded a solo shot to Jazz Chisholm in the second. The Yankees continued to give Martin trouble, and while he didn't yield any additional runs, his pitch count got up early and he was pulled at 81 pitches (50 strikes). This was the first time he's failed to complete four innings all year and just the second time in 21 appearances (20 starts) he's fallen short of five frames. The right-hander has a 4.03 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 85:38 K:BB through 116 innings. His numbers don't pop off the page, but he's been a reliable innings-eater for the White Sox. He's projected to make his next start at Minnesota.
Martin (5-9) came away with the win against the Twins on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk while striking out six across five innings.
Martin yielded at least two baserunners in two of the five frames he pitched, but he was able to limit the damage to two solo home runs from Kody Clemens and Matt Wallner in the second and fourth innings, respectively. Saturday marked just the fourth time Martin has recorded at least six strikeouts this season, and he has yielded three earned runs or less in five of six starts since the All-Star break. He now sits at a 3.93 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 80:35 K:BB across 112.1 innings this season. Martin will look for win number six in his next start, tentatively slated for next week at home against the Yankees.

Martin did not factor in the decision during Sunday's loss to Kansas City. He allowed a hit and three walks over six scoreless frames while striking out four.
Martin retired the first nine batters he faced and delivered his first scoreless appearance since April 27. He did not give up a hit until the sixth inning and did not face much trouble throughout his start. Martin turned in his first quality start since June 6; in five appearances between quality starts, he registered a 5.74 ERA across 26.2 frames. Martin now owns a 3.94 ERA with a 74:34 K:BB through 107.1 innings. He's projected for a home matchup against the Twins next weekend.
