Mets' Tylor Megill: Officially makes rotation
Megill has been awarded a spot in the Mets' rotation, and he'll start the team's second game of the season March 28 against Houston, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Megill's spot in the rotation was a foregone conclusion with Sean Manaea (oblique) and Frankie Montas (lat) out for the beginning of the campaign. Megill solidified the decision with a strong spring during which he posted a 4.24 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB over 17 innings. Clay Holmes has been named New York's Opening Day starter, and he'll be followed in the rotation by Megill, Griffin Canning, David Peterson and Kodai Senga.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Could start second game of season
Megill is expected to start the second game of the Mets' season-opening series in Houston, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.
That would line the right-hander up to face the Astros on March 28 after Clay Holmes gets the nod Opening Day, with Griffin Canning, David Peterson and Kodai Senga following in the rotation. Megill has looked good this spring, posting a 13:2 K:BB over 11.2 innings, and he should get a few turns through the rotation to establish himself as a reliable option with Sean Manaea (oblique) not set to return until at least mid-April, and Frankie Montas (lat) on the shelf into May.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Sharp in Tuesday's outing
Megill gave up two hits and a walk over four scoreless innings in Tuesday's Grapefruit League game against the Astros. He struck out five.
The 29-year-old right-hander was essentially gifted a rotation spot to begin the season when Sean Manaea (oblique) and Frankie Montas (lat) went down with injuries, but Megill has earned the assignment so far this spring with a 1.35 ERA and 7:2 K:BB over 6.2 innings. He's always had intriguing stuff, highlighted by a 27.0 percent strikeout rate over 78 regular-season innings in the majors last year, but to this point in his career a true breakout has eluded him.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Rotation spot more secure
Megill appears likely to have a spot in the Opening Day rotation if Sean Manaea (oblique) begins the season on the injured list, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Frankie Montas (lat) was already expected to be sidelined into May, so the Mets' rotation depth is being tested early. Kodai Senga, Clay Holmes and David Peterson are the only locks for starting jobs right now, with Megill, Griffin Canning and Paul Blackburn (back) competing for the remaining spots, but if New York sticks with its plan to use a six-man rotation, there would be room for all three. The Mets have three off days in the first 15 days of their schedule however, so they could delay those plans until mid-April.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Building up quickly
Megill entered camp further along than most Mets starters and was slated to throw three innings of live batting practice this week, Andrew Tredinnick of NorthJersey.com reports.
He already threw two innings in a live batting practice session and is ahead of Paul Blackburn (back) and Griffin Canning, the two other starters Megill is competing with for the final two spots in the Mets' six-man rotation. Once the trio starts pitching in games this spring, their performance will take precedence over who got built up quickest in camp, but it's at least good to know Megill is healthy and throwing. His goal this season is to trust his stuff and attack hitters in the zone more in order to keep his pitch count low after going six-plus innings in just four of his 15 starts in 2024.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Will stretch out this spring
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said Tuesday that Megill will be stretched out as a starting pitcher this spring, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
The Mets' current plan is to open the season with a six-man rotation, and Megill will be in the mix for one of those last two spots along with David Peterson, Griffin Canning and Paul Blackburn (back). Megill could eventually shift to a relief role, although he does have minor-league options left; therefore, the righty could also open the season in the Triple-A Syracuse rotation.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Settles with New York
The Mets and Megill avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year contract Thursday.
He had been eligible for arbitration for the first time. Megill put up a 27 percent strikeout rate in 16 appearances (15 starts) with the Mets in 2024 but might have to settle for a bullpen job to open 2025.

Mets' Tylor Megill: On NLDS roster
Megill is on the Mets' roster for the NLDS versus Philadelphia.
Megill was left off New York's roster for the wild-card round, but he's active for the NLDS. The right-hander started 15 of the 16 games in which he pitched during the regular season and compiled a 4.04 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 91:32 K:BB over 78 total innings. Megill will likely work in long relief against the Phillies and could be used in that capacity in Game 1 with Kodai Senga likely on a limited pitch count.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Absent from wild-card roster
Megill is not on the Mets' roster for the National League Wild Card Series against the Brewers, Mike Puma of the New York Post reports.
Megill wasn't going to be available to pitch in the series after throwing 100 pitches over 5.2 innings Monday in Atlanta, so the Mets will carry a long reliever in Max Kranick instead. Should the Mets advance to the NLDS, Megill is a good bet to be added to their roster at that time.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Fans eight in no-decision Monday
Megill came away with a no-decision in the first game of Monday's doubleheader against Atlanta, giving up three runs on eight hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out eight.
The right-hander had some trouble keeping the ball in the yard, serving up a two-run homer to Ozzie Albies in the third inning and a solo shot to Ramon Laureano in the sixth, but the Mets' offense got Megill off the hook for a loss in an eventual 8-7 victory that clinched a wild-card spot for New York. Megill hadn't given up a homer in five starts since rejoining the big-league staff in late August, and in 31 innings over that stretch he sports a 2.32 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 36:10 K:BB. It's not clear how the 29-year-old will fit into the Mets' postseason rotation plans, but after throwing 100 pitches Monday (66 strikes) he's likely unavailable for the Wild Card Round.

Mets' Tylor Megill: Starting matinee Monday
Megill will start the first game of Monday's doubleheader with Atlanta, Andy Martino of SNY.tv reports.
Megill will get another turn in the rotation before the end of the regular season as New York tries to qualify for the postseason. The Mets need to win at least one of the two contests in the twin bill to clinch a spot in the Wild Card Round beginning Tuesday. Megill has compiled a 1.80 ERA and 0.95 WHIP with 22 strikeouts over 20 innings through four starts in September.
