  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Reunites with O's

Vavra signed a minor-league contract with the Orioles on Saturday, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. Vavra elected to become a free agent after being DFA'd by the Mariners on Aug. 31, and he'll now return to the organization that he's spent his entire major-league career with. The 27-year-old has slashed .239/.342/.358 across 191 plate appearances at Triple-A and will likely remain in the minors for the rest of the year.

  • Terrin Vavra: Elects free agency

Vavra cleared waivers Wednesday and elected to become a free agent. Vavra was DFA'd by the Mariners on Saturday -- just eight days after the team claimed him off waivers from Baltimore. He'll now have the freedom to choose his next team, though he likely won't be able to secure more than a minor-league deal after posting a .698 OPS through 191 Triple-A plate appearances.

  • Mariners' Terrin Vavra: DFA'd by Seattle

The Mariners designated Vavra for assignment Saturday, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. Just eight days after claiming Vavra off waivers from Baltimore, the Mariners will now strip him of his spot on the 40-man roster and give it to Luis Urias, who was selected to the active roster Saturday. Vavra has slashed .239/.342/.356 across 191 plate appearances in Triple-A this season, and his defensive versatility could make him an attractive piece for other clubs browsing the waiver wire.

  • Mariners' Terrin Vavra: Claimed by Seattle

The Mariners claimed Vavra off waivers from the Orioles on Friday and optioned him to Triple-A Tacoma. The 27-year-old has a career .254/.331/.304 slash line over parts of two seasons in the majors. Vavra is capable of playing all over the field, giving the Mariners some utility depth.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Pushed off 40-man roster

The Orioles designated Vavra for assignment Wednesday. Vavra was added back to the Orioles' 40-man roster in late July, but he was optioned back to Triple-A Norfolk a day later once Baltimore's trade-deadline acquisitions joined up with the club. The 27-year-old will now move back off the 40-man roster as the Orioles clear room for infielder Emmanuel Rivera, who was claimed off waivers from the Marlins. Vavra will now be subject to the waiver process, but if he clears, he would have the ability to elect free agency since he was previously outrighted off the 40-man roster last November. He's produced a .243/.350/.368 slash line with three home runs and two stolen bases over 178 plate appearances at Norfolk this season.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Sent down to minors

The Orioles optioned Vavra to Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday. Vavra's stint in the majors lasted just one day, and he didn't make an appearance. Jackson Holliday was recalled from Triple-A to replace Vavra on the 26-man active roster.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Back from IL

Vavra (groin) has gone 3-for-8 over two contests for Triple-A Norfolk since he was activated from the injured list. Vavra suffered the groin strain in early June and missed just under a month of time. He's been limited to 19 games at Triple-A due to the groin injury and a shoulder issue that sidelined him at the start of the season. He's slashing .284/.377/.433 over 77 plate appearances, but he'll have a tough time getting to the majors given the Orioles' already crowded infield on the 26-man roster and at Triple-A.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Lands on IL with groin strain

Triple-A Norfolk placed Vavra on the 7-day injured list Friday due to a left groin strain, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. It will be the second time Vavra has been placed on the minor-league injured list this season. Since returning from a right shoulder strain May 12, Vavra has slashed .271/.377/.424 with two home runs and 12 RBI over 59 at-bats.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Rehabbing in Florida

Vavra (shoulder) began a rehab assignment Saturday with the Orioles' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, going 0-for-3 with an RBI while playing seven innings at first base. Vavra has been on Triple-A Norfolk's 7-day injured list all season but should be on the cusp of making his 2024 debut for the Orioles' top affiliate. The 26-year-old is working his way back from a strained right shoulder, which sidelined him for most of the second half of the 2023 season.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Outrighted to Triple-A

Vavra (shoulder) cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports. The Orioles needed to clear space on their 40-man roster ahead of Tuesday's Rule 5 Draft protection deadline and Vavra is one of the victims. He'll remain in the organization, but it's unclear what his health situation is after he ended the season with right shoulder issues.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Goes on 60-day IL

The Orioles recalled Vavra from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a strained right shoulder. Vavra has resided on Norfolk's IL since mid-June due to the shoulder injury, but he was cleared to begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Delmarva on Aug. 31. However, he appeared in just two games for the affiliate before being pulled off the rehab assignment after experiencing a setback with the shoulder. The Orioles haven't revealed whether or not Vavra's injury is season-ending, but he's not expected to see any action with the big club again in 2023 even if his setback proves to be a minor one. The Orioles moved him to the 60-day IL in the big leagues for the purpose of opening up a spot on the 40-man roster for first baseman/outfielder Heston Kjerstad, whose contract was selected from Triple-A.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Hits bench versus lefty

Vavra is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees. With southpaw Nestor Cortes on the hill for New York, the lefty-hitting Vavra will head to the bench while Anthony Santander steps in as Baltimore's right fielder. • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Notches first steal

Vavra went 1-for-3 with a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Angels. Vavra is getting a bit of run in the corner outfield, and he's gone 2-for-8 with one RBI, a walk and two runs scored over his last three games. The utility man is slashing a modest .242/.342/.242, as all eight of his hits this season have been singles. He's unlikely to bat higher than the bottom third of the order if he can maintain his newfound playing time.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Nabs third straight start

Vavra will start in right field and bat eighth in Wednesday's game against the Angels. With Ramon Urias (hamstring) recently landing on the injured list and with Kyle Stowers having been demoted to Triple-A Norfolk, Vavra appears to have settled into the open spot in the Baltimore lineup. He'll be making his third consecutive start Wednesday, all of which have come in the corner outfield. The lefty-hitting Vavra could still find himself out of the lineup versus southpaws.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Starting in right field

Vavra is starting in right field and batting eighth for the Orioles in Monday's game versus the Angels, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. With Kyle Stowers optioned and Anthony Santander spending a large chunk of his time at designated hitter, there are some at-bats to be had in right field for the O's. Vavra hasn't done much at the plate during his opportunities this season, picking up six hits -- all singles -- in 26 at-bats.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Swinging again

Vavra (shoulder) said he will resume swinging a bat Tuesday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports. Vavra noted that he feels much better since experiencing left shoulder discomfort late last week, and his ability to swing the bat again should represent an important test as he aims to return to the Grapefruit League lineup. If all goes well during his workout Tuesday, Vavra could be cleared for game action within the next couple of days.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: Dealing with sore shoulder

Vavra is considered day-to-day with left shoulder discomfort, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports. Vavra was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's exhibition contest, and it was revealed afterward that he felt soreness while taking part in batting practice prior to the game. It remains to be seen if he will miss any additional time.

  • Orioles' Terrin Vavra: In mix for reps at first base

Vavra is being considered for the backup role at first base, Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Sun reports. Vavra is far from alone in the competition to be Ryan Mountcastle's understudy at first. The group also includes Anthony Santander, Franchy Cordero and James McCann. There doesn't appear to be a clear path to playing time for Vavra, who has seen at least some time at every position excluding first and catcher over the last two years. He's most likely to be a utility man if he breaks camp with the Orioles.
