  • Padres' Cole Paplham: Activated, sent to High-A

Paplham (face) was assigned to High-A Fort Wayne on Thursday after being reinstated from Double-A San Antonio's 7-day injured list.

After suffering multiple facial fractures when he was struck by a comebacker in a Cactus League game back in late February, Paplham opened the season on San Antonio's IL. He was cleared to begin a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League on May 20, and after giving up one earned run in 4.2 innings over four appearances, he was moved to Fort Wayne on June 3. Since reporting to the Midwest League, Paplham has made four more appearances and has struck out six while allowing two earned runs on four hits and one walk in six innings. Though he'll stick around with Fort Wayne for the time being, Paplham could be advanced to San Antonio once the Double-A club has an opening in its bullpen.

  • Padres' Cole Paplham: Diagnosed with facial fractures

Paplham has been diagnosed with facial fractures after being struck by a line drive in Sunday's Cactus League game versus the Dodgers, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Paplham has been discharged from the hospital but is still going through concussion protocols. It's not clear at this point how long he might be sidelined. Once healthy, Paplham should join the bullpen either at Double-A San Antonio or Triple-A El Paso.

  • Padres' Cole Paplham: Suffers head injury Sunday

Paplham took a line drive off the side of the head Sunday versus the Dodgers, forcing him to exit the game in the bottom of the eighth inning, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Paplham was in the midst of his first appearance of the spring, surrendering two runs on two hits while also hitting a batter before taking a 102.4 mph line drive from Aaron Bracho off the head. The Padres were able to get the final out of the inning on the play. The right-hander was carted off the field, and more information on his status moving forward should be forthcoming.

  • Padres' Cole Paplham: On mend from Tommy John surgery

Paplham, who last pitched for Double-A San Antonio on June 19 before being placed on the 60-day injured list, underwent Tommy John surgery earlier this summer, Sam Dykstra of MiLB.com reports.

Paplham presumably had his procedure at some point in July and will most likely miss all of the 2025 season. The right-handed relief prospect has shown some promise during his minor-league career with 47 strikeouts and just two home runs allowed over 39.1 career innings, but he'll be 26 years old by the time he's back to full health in spring training of 2026.
