  • Dodgers' James Tibbs: On fire at Triple-A

Tibbs is hitting .545 with three home runs and a 5:3 K:BB in 25 plate appearances at Triple-A Oklahoma City. This is the first exposure to Triple-A pitching for the 23-year-old slugger, and while this current level of production is unsustainable (.643 BABIP), it is a carry over of Tibbs' impressive showing in spring training (1.053 OPS). He raked last year for the Dodgers at Double-A (155 wRC+ in 36 games) after failing to perform at Double-A with Boston (77 wRC+ in 30 games) earlier in the year. Tibbs has been a bat-first player dating back to when the Giants selected him No. 13 overall in 2024, and he hasn't always hit enough to profile at the bottom of the defensive spectrum, which is partly why he's on his third team. However, something seems to have clicked at the plate since Tibbs was traded to the Dodgers last summer as part of the return for Dustin May.

  • Dodgers' James Tibbs: Hits fourth spring homer

Tibbs went 1-for-2 with a solo home run Sunday in a spring-training win over the Angels. It's been a great spring for Tibbs, who is slashing .333/.396/.711 with four home runs and 11 RBI through 21 games. He's also struck out 20 times in 45 at-bats, so there are clearly still parts of his approach to work on, but Tibbs has nonetheless opened eyes at camp. He spent much of last season at the Double-A level and will likely bump up to Triple-A at some point this season.

  • Red Sox's James Tibbs: Dealt to Boston

Tibbs was traded to the Red Sox in a deal that brought back Rafael Devers to the Giants on Sunday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Tibbs has posted a .246 average with 12 home runs, 32 RBI, 41 runs scored and three stolen bases over 57 games with High-A Eugene this season. The outfielder, along with left-handed pitcher Kyle Harrison, right-handed reliever Jordan Hicks (toe) and minor-league right-hander Jose Bello were all sent to Boston in return for Devers. Tibbs will now likely report to High-A Greenville with Boston's organization.

  • Giants' James Tibbs: Already up to High-A

Tibbs was promoted from Single-A San Jose to High-A Eugene on Tuesday. Tibbs, selected 13th overall in the 2024 First-Year Player Draft, was assigned to Single-A on Aug. 8 without playing any rookie-league games. He quickly proved himself at San Jose, going 17-for-41 (.415) with four doubles, two RBI and nine runs scored over nine contests. He'll get a new challenge at High-A, which is likely where he'll close out 2024, though his 26.2 percent strikeout rate from Single-A will be something to keep an eye on as he moves up the ranks.
