  • Huascar Ynoa: No contract from Atlanta

Ynoa (elbow/shoulder) was non-tendered by Atlanta on Friday. Ynoa has battled arm injuries for much of the last two seasons, posting only a combined 29.2 innings across all professional levels. He's expected to be healthy for the start of the 2025 campaign, so a team may be willing to give him a chance during spring training.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Resumes rehab assignment

Ynoa (elbow/shoulder) will resume a rehab assignment with Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. After missing the 2023 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, Ynoa opened the 2024 campaign at full health and occupied a spot in Triple-A Gwinnett's rotation, only to be shut down in mid-April with elbow inflammation before he hurt his shoulder in August during a rehab assignment. He's been cleared for game action again and will hope to ramp back up in time to rejoin Gwinnett before the International League season ends. Ynoa is currently on Atlanta's 60-day injured list, but he'll almost certainly get optioned to Gwinnett once he completes his rehab assignment.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Rehab assignment halted

Atlanta returned Ynoa (elbow) from his minor-league rehab assignment Saturday due to right shoulder tightness, Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports. Ynoa underwent Tommy John surgery in September of 2022 and pitched during spring training before starting the season at Triple-A Gwinnett. However, he was moved back on the injured list with elbow inflammation in late April and had completed five rehab outings before being returned Saturday with a shoulder injury. It's unclear how severe the setback will be, but Ynoa had thrown at least three innings in three consecutive minor-league outings and seemed close to being activated. In those three appearances, Ynoa allowed just one run with eight strikeouts across 9.2 innings .

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Shifts rehab assignment to Triple-A

Ynoa (elbow) struck out two batters and gave up one hit and one walk over three scoreless innings Sunday in his rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnett. Atlanta moved Ynoa's rehab assignment to its top affiliate after the right-hander made two- and 1.1-inning starts in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on July 16 and 22, respectively. Ynoa will likely need another start or two before he gets fully stretched out. With Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) leaving Sunday's start early and Max Fried (forearm) still lacking a firm return date, Ynoa could be needed in the big-league rotation.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Goes two innings in rehab outing

Ynoa (elbow) failed to record a strikeout and gave up one earned run on two hits and no walks over two innings in his rehab outing Tuesday in the rookie-level Florida Complex League. Ynoa's appearance Tuesday was his first at any level since April 14, as he's been on the mend from a right elbow stress reaction for the past three months. He'll likely require the entire 30-day rehab window to get fully stretched out before he's activated from the 60-day injured list, at which point Atlanta will likely option him to Triple-A Gwinnett.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Starting rehab assignment in FCL

Atlanta sent Ynoa (elbow) to the rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate Tuesday to begin a rehab assignment. Ynoa will be making his first appearance since he was shut down in mid-April with a right elbow stress reaction. The right-hander is on Atlanta's 60-day injured list, but he should eventually get optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett once he completes his rehab assignment. Ynoa hasn't pitched at the major-league level since 2022, having missed all of 2023 following Tommy John surgery.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Called up, shifts to 60-day IL

Atlanta recalled Ynoa from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday and placed him on the 60-day injured list with a right elbow stress reaction, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Ynoa was optioned to Gwinnett coming out of spring training and made two starts in the minors before landing on the club's 7-day IL on April 23 with what was termed as right elbow inflammation. The 26-year-old's injury is now being classified differently, and since he's already been out of action at Triple-A for nearly two months, his move to Atlanta's 60-day IL won't affect his timeline for a return to the mound. Instead, the transaction temporarily removes Ynoa from Atlanta's 40-man roster and opens up a spot for right-hander Grant Holmes, whose contract was selected from Gwinnett ahead of Sunday's series finale with the Rays.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Stuck on 7-day IL at Triple-A

Triple-A Gwinnett placed Ynoa on its 7-day injured list April 23 with right elbow inflammation, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Ynoa posted a 6.52 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB across 9.2 innings in his first three starts with Gwinnett before hitting the shelf. More than a month after being shut down, Ynoa is still without an official timeline for a return. The 26-year-old right-hander held some fantasy utility in 2021 when he turned in a 4.05 ERA while striking out more than a batter per inning over 17 starts with Atlanta, but he hasn't resurfaced at the big-league level since undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2022. While Ynoa still possesses a spot on Atlanta's 40-man roster, he'll still likely find himself behind several other pitchers in the pecking order for a promotion once he's healthy.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Covers one inning in spring debut

Ynoa (elbow) struck out one and worked around one hit and one walk over one inning of relief Saturday in Atlanta's 4-2 loss to Pittsburgh in Grapefruit League play. Ynoa made his first appearance in a game since August 2022, as he spent the entire 2023 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. The right-hander contended with some soreness earlier in camp, but after getting back on the mound Saturday, he looks like he'll enter the 2024 campaign with his health intact. Because of the time he missed, Ynoa could be placed on the injured list to begin the season, though he has a minor-league option remaining and could alternatively be sent to Triple-A Gwinnett if Atlanta doesn't have a spot for him in its Opening Day bullpen and wants to keep him to get stretched out as a starter in the minors.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Could make spring debut Saturday

Ynoa (elbow) is available to make his Grapefruit League debut Saturday against the Pirates in relief, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Ynoa missed the entire 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in September of 2022. He started throwing bullpen sessions in mid-February, but was downgraded to long tosses while dealing with right elbow soreness.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Working back from elbow soreness

Ynoa has resumed long-toss after being shut down for a bit with right elbow soreness, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Ynoa is coming back from Tommy John surgery and had been throwing bullpen sessions early on in camp before the elbow soreness cropped up. Atlanta doesn't appear overly concerned about the righty, as Ynoa could resume mound work in a few days. Ynoa already had seemed likely to begin the season back in the minors as he knocks some rust off, and this setback should cinch that.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Throws bullpen session

Ynoa (elbow) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Ynoa underwent Tommy John surgery near the end of the 2022 season, causing him to miss the entire 2023 campaign. Although manager Brian Snitker said Ynoa looked "great" during his first throwing session of the spring, the 25-year-old's availability for the beginning of Grapefruit League play remains unknown.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Avoids arbitration

Ynoa (elbow) signed a one-year, $825,000 contract with Atlanta on Friday to avoid arbitration. Ynoa missed all of last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in September 2022. There have been no updates regarding his status for spring training, but a return at some point this season is likely. The 25-year-old holds a 5.22 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through 122.1 career innings.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Back on 60-day IL

Ynoa (elbow) was placed on the 60-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to March 27. Ynoa finished last season on the 60-day IL after he underwent Tommy John surgery in September, so his move back there to open 2023 was inevitable. The 24-year-old is expected to miss the entire season but could be ready for spring training in 2024.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Lands on 60-day IL

Ynoa (elbow) was recalled and placed on the 60-day injured list Wednesday. Ynoa has been in the minors since August, but he underwent Tommy John surgery in early September. He'll likely miss the entire 2023 campaign, and Wednesday's transaction is simply procedural to make room on the 40-man roster.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Undergoes Tommy John surgery

Ynoa underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday to repair a torn UCL in his right elbow. The 24-year-old hadn't pitched for Triple-A Gwinnett since Aug. 24, though no injury had been reported prior to the surgery announcement from Atlanta on Wednesday. Ynoa will miss the rest of the season and is also likely to be sidelined for the entirety of 2023.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Demoted after rough start

Atlanta optioned Ynoa to Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday. The demotion is an unwelcome development for fantasy managers hoping to get a two-start week out of Ynoa, who took the hill for Atlanta's series opener in Los Angeles on Monday. Unfortunately, the right-hander labored through 3.2 innings, giving up five runs on four hits and four walks en route to taking his second loss in as many starts this season. Since opening the 2021 campaign with a 2.23 ERA and 0.89 WHIP through his first seven starts and then being shut down for an extended period with a broken hand, Ynoa hasn't re-emerged as a reliable rotation option for Atlanta. The reigning World Series champions had recently added Bryce Elder to the mix as a sixth starter, so Atlanta will likely just condense to a five-man rotation now that Ynoa is headed to the minors.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Knocked around by Dodgers

Ynoa (0-2) completed 3.2 innings against the Dodgers on Monday, allowing five runs on four hits and four walks while striking out four. He was charged with the loss. The right-hander struggled with his control in the contest, issuing four walks and throwing only 40 of 75 pitches for strikes. When he did get the ball over the plate, the Dodgers largely capitalized, knocking a pair of extra-base hits against him, including a Freddie Freeman solo homer in the first inning. Ynoa showed some promise with a 4.05 ERA and 100:25 K:BB last season, but he hasn't pitched well in 2022, allowing 10 earned runs and posting an 8:6 K:BB across 6.2 frames. He'll try to turn things around in his next start, which is tentatively slated to come at home against Miami on Sunday.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Start pushed back

Ynoa is now scheduled to start Monday's game against the Dodgers, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports. Ynoa was initially slated to start Sunday's series finale, but he'll instead get an extra day of rest after Bryce Elder was pushed up in the rotation to start against San Diego. Ynoa will attempt to bounce back after he allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four in three innings to take the loss Monday against the Nationals.

  • Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Hit hard in Monday's loss

Ynoa (0-1) took the loss in Monday's 11-2 rout at the hands of the Nationals, coughing up five runs on seven hits and two walks over three innings. He struck out four. The young right-hander was able to escape trouble in the first two innings, but things fell apart for Ynoa in the third. He threw 41 of 72 pitches for strikes before getting the hook, but the Atlanta bullpen didn't have any more success than he did. Ynoa will look to rebound in his next start, scheduled for Sunday in San Diego.
