In just his second game back from a hamate bone injury he suffered Opening Day, Vaughn launched an Andre Pallante fastball over the left-field wall for his first long ball of the season. The first baseman had an outstanding finish to the 2025 campaign after being acquired from the White Sox, slashing .308/.375/.493 with nine homers over 64 games for the Brewers, but he hasn't yet gotten a chance to show he can repeat that level of performance.

Vaughn is nearing the finish line in his recovery from the left hand fracture that has kept him on the shelf since March 28. He's already appeared in three rehab games for Triple-A Nashville, playing a full nine innings on one occasion while going 2-for-11 with a double and a walk. Jake Bauers has been serving as the Brewers' everyday first baseman while Vaughn has been on the IL, but Milwaukee could find playing time for both by using Bauers at designated hitter or in the corner outfield once Vaughn is activated.

Vaughn (hand) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Vaughn has been sidelined since fracturing his left hamate bone Opening Day and requiring surgery. As long as the first baseman doesn't encounter any setbacks with Nashville, he is slated to return from the 10-day injured list May 4. Jake Bauers has fared well as the Brewers' primary first baseman, and with Christian Yelich (groin) slated to miss a couple more weeks, the Brewers have room in the lineup for both Bauers and Vaughn between first base and designated hitter.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Tuesday that Vaughn (hand) has started swinging a bat, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports.
Vaughn is just over three weeks removed from left hamate bone surgery and has finally taken a significant step in the rehab process. He will require some rehab at-bats before rejoining the Brewers' active roster, but it's unclear when he might be ready to begin a rehab assignment. Vaughn hopes to be activated by early-to-mid May.
Vaughn will have a follow-up appointment with his hand surgeon Thursday and hopes to be cleared at that time to progress to the next step of his rehab, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
What exactly that next step would involve isn't immediately clear. Vaughn suffered a hamate fracture in his left hand Opening Day and required surgery just over a week ago. The Brewers anticipate Vaughn being sidelined until at least early May.
