• Phillies' Bryson Stott: Settles at $5.9 million

  The Phillies and Stott avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $5.9 million contract Thursday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports. Stott slashed .257/.328/.391 with 13 homers and 24 steals across 147 regular-season contests in 2025. He'll open the 2026 campaign as the Phillies' primary second baseman and will have one more year of arbitration eligibility next offseason.

  Stott went 2-for-3 with a walk and a double in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Diamondbacks. With Trea Turner (hamstring) and Edmundo Sosa (groin) both on the injured list, Stott has started each of Philadelphia's last eight games to help pick up the slack. Stott had a weak .645 OPS through July 30, but he's fared far better at the dish ever since. Over his last 150 plate appearances, he's slashing .321/.393/.519 with 15 extra-base hits, 24 RBI, 21 runs scored and seven stolen bases to raise his OPS to .719 for the year.

Stott got the Phillies on the board with a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning and then delivered what proved to be the game-winning RBI single in the eighth. The 27-year-old has now hit safely in seven of his past eight games, collecting four extra-base hits, five RBI, five runs scored and three stolen bases during that stretch. For the year, he's slashing .235/.310/.342 with seven homers, 43 RBI, 43 runs and 17 steals across 389 plate appearances.

That's now three straight games with at least one hit for Stott, although he's struggled mightily as a whole since the start of May. The middle infielder is slashing a woeful .203/.275/.299 with five home runs, seven doubles and 26 RBI over his last 257 plate appearances (66 outings), but he's at least stolen nine bases during this span. Stott had worked his way into Philadelphia's leadoff spot consistently from mid-April to early June, though he hasn't hit first since June 8 and is unlikely to regain that position unless he really begins to heat up at the dish.

His theft Sunday was his first of the month and his 14th of the year on 17 chances, which is a bit of a decline after he posted back-to-back 30-steal campaigns the last two seasons. The 27-year-old has added a .234/.303/.333 slash line with six home runs, 38 RBI, 38 runs scored, nine doubles and two triples over 86 contests.

Perhaps this stolen base, his first since June 18, can kickstart Stott, who now sports a .244 average, five homers, 36 runs scored and 35 RBI while going 13-for-16 on steal attempts across 77 games.

Stott never went on the injured list in 2024, but he evidently dealt with a sore elbow for much of the season that the club believes affected his ability to drive the ball. The numbers back up the theory, as the 27-year-old's regular-season slugging percentage fell from .419 to .356, his home-run total dropped from 15 to 11 and his doubles output dipped from 32 to 19. Stott is expected to be healthy at the start of spring training and could be in line for a bounce-back year at the plate.
