  • Giants' Will Wilson: Moves up to Triple-A

Wilson has gone 1-for-6 with a walk and four strikeouts in two games for Triple-A Sacramento since receiving a promotion from Double-A Richmond on Monday. Wilson spent the bulk of the 2022 campaign at Richmond and slashed .225/.324/.445 with 12 home runs in 219 plate appearances. He'll look to make a positive impression at Triple-A over the next few days with the hope of earning a full-time role with Sacramento in 2023.

  • Giants' Will Wilson: Activated, assigned to Double-A

Wilson has gone 4-for-18 with a double in five games for Double-A Richmond since he was assigned to the affiliate Aug. 24 after being reinstated from Triple-A Sacramento's 60-day injured list. Wilson was on the shelf at Triple-A for two months while recovering from left hand surgery. Prior to landing on the IL, Wilson had mustered a modest .584 OPS over his first seven games at Triple-A, so it's not a major surprise the Giants are having him play regularly at Double-A in the wake of his extended absence.

  • Giants' Will Wilson: Starts rehab assignment

Wilson (hand) began a rehab assignment Tuesday with the Giants' rookie-level Arizona Complex League affiliate and went 2-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Wilson has been sidelined at Triple-A Sacramento since late June after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. He'll likely continue his rehab assignment at Arizona or another low-level affiliate through the weekend before potentially making his return to Sacramento's lineup next week.

  • Giants' Will Wilson: Moves up to Triple-A

Wilson was promoted to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The 23-year-old middle infielder hit .233/.347/.505 with eight home runs and a 132 wRC+ in a return trip to Double-A. His 14.9 BB% and .272 ISO were career-best marks, but his 25.6 K% and 11.1% line-drive rate weren't ideal. Wilson is not on the 40-man roster and figures to spend the rest of the season at Triple-A.

  • Giants' Will Wilson: Joining big-league camp

Wilson received an invitation Friday to the Giants' major-league spring training. The 22-year-old had a .767 OPS in rookie ball during 2019 and spent the 2020 campaign at San Francisco's alternate training site after being acquired from the Angels. Wilson will get the chance to showcase himself in big-league camp, though he's likely to begin the season in the lower minors.

  • Giants' Will Wilson: Joining player pool

Wilson will be a part of the Giants' 60-man roster, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports. Wilson was traded to the Giants in December after being drafted by the Angels with the No. 15 overall pick in the 2019 first-year player draft, and he'll get the chance to develop as part of the 60-man player pool. The 21-year-old went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts during spring training this year before play was suspended.

  • Giants' Will Wilson: Traded to Giants

Wilson was traded to the Giants on Tuesday along with Zack Cozart (shoulder) in exchange for a player to be named later or cash. After being drafted by the Angels with the No. 15 overall pick in June, the 21-year-old bat-first infielder didn't quite live up to expectations in his pro debut. This was the price the Angels had to pay to get Cozart's contract (due $12.7 million in 2020) off the books, which they hope precedes a big free-agent signing or two. If Wilson reaches his potential, he will be a second baseman with a plus hit tool and plus power.
