Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Continues to impress this spring
Sanchez struck out four over three innings in Friday's Grapefruit League game against Pittsburgh, allowing one run on two hits.
Sanchez poured in 27 strikes out of his 36 pitches in his third start of the spring Friday, registering a 42.1 percent whiff rate. The 28-year-old left-hander was an All-Star for the first time in 2024, and he's now given up just two runs to go with a 12:1 K:BB across 7.2 frames during his impressive start to spring training. It's also worth noting that Sanchez has experienced a bump in velocity thus far, with his sinker averaging 97 mph Friday, per Paul Casella of MLB.com.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Could pitch in relief in Game 4
Sanchez is available in relief Wednesday in Game 4 of the NLDS against the Mets, Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
Sanchez has had just two days to rest after throwing 88 pitches in Game 2, but he will be available for at least a couple innings out of the bullpen in Game 4, if needed. The left-hander took a no-decision in Game 2, permitting two runs over five frames.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Garners NLDS Game 2 start
Phillies manager Rob Thomson announced Friday that Sanchez will start Sunday in Game 2 of the NLDS versus the Mets, Matt Gelb of The Athletic reports.
Zack Wheeler will get the ball in Game 1, which is no surprise, but Sanchez being the choice over Aaron Nola for Game 2 is a twist. The Phillies' thinking behind the decision is that Sanchez has pitched much better at home (2.21 ERA) than on the road (5.02 ERA), and they can also be more aggressive with their bullpen in Game 2 since an off day follows. Nola will get the ball for Game 3 in New York.

Phillies' Cristopher Sanchez: Mediocre in no-decision
Sanchez came away with a no-decision in Wednesday's win over the Cubs, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and one walk while striking out four in 4.2 innings.
Sanchez was cruising until Nico Hoerner hit a three-run blast in the fourth inning. Sanchez was pulled with two outs in the fifth after surrendering an RBI single, leaving him one out shy of earning his 12th win. The 27-year-old finishes his regular season with a 3.32 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 153:44 K:BB in 181.2 innings (31 starts), setting career highs in wins, ERA and strikeouts. Although he did not have his best stuff Wednesday, Sanchez could still be in the mix for starts in the playoffs -- the southpaw posted a 1.80 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 25:7 K:BB in four September starts (25 innings) prior to Wednesday.
