  • Braves' Tristin English: Latches on with Atlanta

Atlanta signed English to a minor-league contract Dec. 22. English reached the big leagues for the first time at age 28 for the Diamondbacks in 2025, going 2-for-22 at the plate in seven tilts. He can play both corner-infield spots as well as left field and will likely begin the 2026 season at Triple-A Gwinnett.

  • Diamondbacks' Tristin English: Designated for assignment

The Diamondbacks designated English for assignment Wednesday. English lost his place on the active roster in early August after putting up a .266 OPS through seven games. His Triple-A numbers have been a bit more impressive -- .320/.367/.522 through 344 plate appearances -- but he'll now lose his 40-man spot in favor of right-handed pitcher Taylor Rashi. Despite the poor performance during his brief MLB stint, English's minor-league statline may be good enough for another team to be willing to pick him up off waivers.

  • Diamondbacks' Tristin English: Demoted to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned English to Triple-A Reno on Friday. The 28-year-old received a brief look as Arizona's starting first baseman after Josh Naylor was traded, but Tyler Locklear will now take over the job after being acquired Thursday in the Eugenio Suarez deal. English has gone 2-for-22 with a double and an RBI in seven MLB games this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Tristin English: Records first MLB hit

English went 1-for-3 with a double in Sunday's 6-0 loss to the Pirates. English logged his first hit in the majors when he laced a third-inning double off Pittsburgh right-hander Paul Skenes. English has started at first base in all three games since the Diamondbacks traded Josh Naylor last Thursday.

  • Diamondbacks' Tristin English: Called up from Triple-A

The Diamondbacks selected English's contract from Triple-A Reno on Sunday. The 28-year-old will receive his first promotion to the majors as Pavin Smith (oblique) heads to the injured list in a corresponding move. English was a third-round pick by the Diamondbacks in the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, but he's never developed into a marquee prospect. He has a .336/.388/.546 slash line with nine home runs in 58 games with Triple-A Reno this season but isn't likely to have a major role while up with the big club.

  • Diamondbacks' Tristin English: Viewed as third baseman

English played multiple positions in college, but the Diamondbacks view him as a third baseman in pro ball, Mike Rosenbaum of MLB.com reports. English, who played multiple corner infield and outfield spots while also serving as the closer for Georgia Tech, played 21 games at third base for short-season Hillsboro in 2019. He also saw action at first base (seven games) and right field (16). "He can play first base and the outfield, but he was playing third base regularly. I think that's where his future lies," said Arizona director of pro scouting Josh Barfield. "I've seen him make every play there. He's getting better there and working on his footwork, and I think, ultimately, that's where he'll end up." The Diamondbacks are hoping English will provide power from the right side of the plate, and he started tapping into his power during his final season in college (18 home runs, .710 slugging). That continued in the pros, as English launched another seven home runs in 193 at-bats (50 games) for Hillsboro.
