  • Giants' Jason Foley: Resumes rehab assignment

Foley (shoulder) struck out two over a scoreless inning in a rehab appearance with Triple-A Sacramento on Friday. Foley compiled a 2.89 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 7:2 K:BB in 9.1 innings across his first nine rehab appearances between Sacramento and Single-A San Jose before being shut down earlier this month when he experienced renewed soreness in his right shoulder. The right-hander didn't pitch for eight days before being cleared to resume his rehab assignment over the weekend, and he seems to have come out of Friday's appearance no worse for the wear. Foley appears poised to return from the 60-day injured list and join the Giants bullpen at some point over the next two weeks.

  • Giants' Jason Foley: Pulled back from rehab stint

Foley was pulled off his rehab assignment after experiencing right shoulder fatigue, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Foley is continuing to work his way back from arthroscopic shoulder shoulder at Triple-A Sacramento on a rehab assignment, but he'll be shut down for the next few days. Pavlovic notes that if all goes according to plan, the right-hander could be back to pitching by the weekend. Foley would likely need to appear in another game or two at Triple-A before being activated from the 60-day injured list.

  • Giants' Jason Foley: Scoreless outing in rehab game

Foley (shoulder) earned a hold in Triple-A Sacramento's 6-5 loss to Round Rock on Wednesday, allowing one hit in a scoreless inning. Foley underwent season-ending arthroscopic surgery last May and was placed on the 60-day injured list Feb. 13. The right-hander began his rehab assignment with Single-A San Jose before moving to Sacramento after just one appearance. He entered Wednesday's game in the sixth inning and allowed a double but escaped without giving up a run, throwing 11 of his 14 pitches for strikes. The 30-year-old will likely require an extended ramp-up period and remains without a definitive timeline to return to the majors.

  • Giants' Jason Foley: Moving rehab to Triple-A

Foley (shoulder) will make his next rehab appearance for Triple-A Sacramento, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Foley kicked off his rehab appearance at Single-A San Jose on Sunday, surrendering four runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one over two-thirds of an inning. Despite his struggles, the club has elected to move his rehab to Triple-A. Foley is likely to notch at least a few more appearances before being activated later in the month.

  • Giants' Jason Foley: Shaky in first rehab appearance

Foley (shoulder) was charged with four runs (one earned) over two-thirds of an inning in his first rehab appearance with Single-A San Jose on Sunday. It's the first game appearance for Foley since he underwent right shoulder surgery last May. He is eligible for activation from the 60-day injured list in late May, but the Giants could ask Foley to spend additional time on his rehab assignment, depending on how he's faring. Foley served as the Tigers' primary closer during the 2024 regular season, and the Giants have an unsettled ninth-inning situation. That makes him worth tracking, but the 30-year-old will first have to prove he's worthy of high-leverage spots again.

  • Giants' Jason Foley: Progressing in recovery

Foley (shoulder) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Tuesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Foley continues to recover from right shoulder surgery that he underwent in May of 2025. He opened the 2026 season on the 60-day IL, and while he's not expected to be ready for major-league action until at least midseason, it's encouraging to see that he has progressed enough in his rehab to toss a bullpen session.

  • Giants' Jason Foley: Placed on 60-day IL

The Giants placed Foley (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Friday. Foley made just five appearances for the Tigers' Triple-A affiliate last year before undergoing season-ending shoulder surgery in May. He isn't expected to be ready to pitch until midseason, so he'll begin the year on the 60-day IL to create roster space for Rowan Wick (elbow).

  • Jason Foley: Becomes free agent

Foley (shoulder) was non-tendered by the Tigers on Friday. Foley was designated for assignment Tuesday, but he's now officially a free agent. He spent most of the 2025 season sidelined by a shoulder injury.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Begins throwing again

Foley (shoulder) initiated a throwing progression Monday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Foley isn't in line to pitch again this season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder in May, but his ability to start playing catch again could put him in position to have something resembling a normal offseason. If Foley is free of any restrictions to begin spring training, he'll get the chance to compete for a role in the Detroit bullpen in 2026. After saving 28 games for the Tigers in 2024, Foley was optioned to Triple-A Toledo prior to this season following a rough showing in spring training. He had been pitching well at Toledo before straining his shoulder and requiring the season-ending procedure.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Season-ending surgery needed

Foley underwent season-ending shoulder surgery, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Foley got 28 saves for the Tigers last year but didn't make the team out of spring training. He was effective at Triple-A prior to his injury, tossing 6.2 scoreless innings with nine strikeouts and zero walks across five appearances. It's unclear what specific shoulder surgery Foley needed or if he'll be healthy for spring training.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: To Triple-A IL with shoulder strain

Foley was placed on the 7-day injured list by Triple-A Toledo on Thursday due a right shoulder strain, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Foley struck out nine and permitted just one hit over 6.2 scoreless innings in his first five appearances with Toledo, but he hadn't pitched in several days and now it's been revealed why. It's not clear how long he might be sidelined, but the former Tigers closer will not be an option for the big club for a while.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Struggling this spring

Through five Grapefruit League appearances, Foley has allowed five runs on eight hits across 4.1 innings. Foley was solid for the Tigers in 2024, posting a 3.15 ERA and 1.18 WHIP during the regular season and leading the team with 28 saves, so the righty should have a little leeway despite his spring struggles. He still looks like the top candidate for saves in Detroit to start the year, though newcomer Tommy Kahnle is expected to be in the mix along with holdover Tyler Holton, and possibly Will Vest and Beau Brieske as well. Foley will likely need a strong start to his season to solidify his grip on the closer role.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Inks deal with Detroit

Foley agreed to a one-year, $3.15 million contract with the Tigers on Thursday, avoiding arbitration, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. The right-hander receives a significant raise in his first season of arbitration eligibility after recording 28 saves with a 3.15 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 46:20 K:BB across 60 innings during the regular season last year. Foley is the early favorite to close games in 2025, but he's not guaranteed the full-time job due to his shaky control and could end up in a high-leverage committee.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Secures one-out save Friday

Foley recorded the last out of Friday's 4-1 win over the White Sox to earn the save, Tyler Holton was pitching well and possibly could have been asked to retire one more batter with a three-run lead, but the Tigers didn't mess around with a chance to secure an AL Wild Card spot. Foley did his part to kick-start the celebration by securing his 28th save of the season and seventh in the last two weeks. The righty has been a big piece of his team's surprise success this year, pitching to a 3.15 ERA and 1.18 WHIP across 60 innings. Foley will clearly have a high-leverage role in the postseason now as well.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Earns 24th save

Foley earned the save against the Royals on Monday, striking out one over a perfect ninth inning. Foley was called upon to protect a 7-6 lead in the ninth frame and did so on 13 pitches. The 28-year-old has converted nine straight saves, including five in nine September appearances. On the season, he is 24-for-27 in save opportunities with a 3.02 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 43:19 K:BB across 56.2 innings.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Locks down 23rd save

Foley earned the save Sunday, striking out two over 1.1 perfect innings against the Orioles. Foley was called upon to finish out the eighth inning after an Adley Rutschman homer brought the Orioles to within one. He struck out Coby Mayo, then retired the side in the ninth to finish off his 23rd save of the season. It was a nice rebound effort for Foley, who had allowed two runs in his last appearance, the first time he had allowed an earned run since the end of July.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Takes loss Thursday

Foley (3-6) allowed two runs on two hits across an inning of work to take the loss Thursday against the Rockies. A day after recording his 22nd save of the season, Foley was less effective in a non-save situation Thursday. The righty entered in a 2-2 game and allowed his first earned runs in an appearance since July 30. Foley's recent success and his 3.15 ERA overall should keep him locked in as Detroit's primary closer, though lefty Tyler Holton has also been good, and the latter should continue to see some save opportunities in the right matchups.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Earns save Friday

Foley threw a perfect inning to pick up a save against the White Sox on Friday. Foley needed only four pitches to close out the 5-2 win. It was his first save since Aug. 15 and just his fourth since the start of July. Foley has turned in 8.2 straight frames without allowing an earned run, dropping his ERA on the year to 3.33 with a 33:16 K:BB through 46 innings.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Picks up 16th save

Foley earned the save in Thursday's 2-1 win over the Mariners, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning. It's the first save for Foley in over a month and his first opportunity since July 12, when he allowed a run in a loss to the Dodgers. While Foley struggled to close out July, he's been pitching better since the start of August -- he's now made seven straight appearances (6.2 innings) without allowing an earned run. While the closing job in Detroit appears fluid, Foley is still likely the best bet for saves moving forward. He's converted 16 of 19 save chances this year while posting a 3.48 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB across 44 innings.

  • Tigers' Jason Foley: Earns 15th save

Foley earned a save in Wednesday's win over the Guardians, walking one and recording the final two outs in the ninth inning. Foley was summoned to protect a 5-4 lead with one out in the ninth inning and stranded a runner on third to secure his 15th save in 17 attempts. It was a gutsy effort, as he entered Wednesday having yielded four earned runs over his previous four appearances. On the season, the 28-year-old owns a 3.41 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 24:10 K:BB over 31.2 innings.
