  • Diamondbacks' Patrick Forbes: Back in action

Forbes (elbow) tossed a scoreless inning while allowing one walk and striking out two batters July 31 for High-A Hillsboro.

Forbes hadn't pitched since June 27 due to elbow discomfort. He has excelled when healthy, logging a 19:3 K:BB and 0.80 WHIP in 13.2 innings across five appearances for the Hops. Risk of re-injury and an inability to sufficiently build up his innings this year are the only knocks on the 22-year-old righty.

  • Diamondbacks' Patrick Forbes: Elbow barking again

Forbes has not pitched for High-A Hillsboro since June 27 due to elbow discomfort, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

As of July 5, the organization said it was hopeful Forbes would return in July, but given he missed the first eight weeks of the season with a right elbow flexor injury and also had a flexor strain last year, there is plenty of cause for concern. Prior to this latest arm injury, Forbes dominated the competition to the tune of a 2.45 ERA, 0.68 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB in 14.2 innings, primarily at High-A. His fastball sits in the mid-90s and his dastardly 83-mph slider gives him a second plus pitch. He should be considered out indefinitely and is at high risk of needing elbow surgery sooner than later.

  • Diamondbacks' Patrick Forbes: Debuts for High-A club

Forbes (elbow) struck out three and allowed one earned run on three hits and no walks over 2.1 innings in his first start for High-A Hillsboro on Wednesday after being reinstated from the 7-day injured list Tuesday.

A first-round selection in the 2025 First-Year Player Draft, Forbes didn't pitch at all last summer and then had his professional debut further delayed after emerging from spring training with a flexor tendon injury. The 21-year-old righty was finally cleared to make a two-inning rehab start in the Arizona Complex League on May 27, and that appearance was the only one Forbes needed in rookie ball before being moving up to a full-season affiliate.

  • Diamondbacks' Patrick Forbes: Pro debut delayed

High-A Hillsboro placed Forbes on the 7-day injured list with a flexor injury, Sam Dykstra of MLB Pipeline reports.

Dykstra reports that Forbes could be game-ready in roughly 6-to-8 weeks, but if this is a flexor strain, there's a chance things take a turn for the worse at some point during his ramp up. Forbes was given a vote of confidence with the assignment to High-A. He comes with significant bullpen risk, but Forbes has big-time stuff, sitting in the mid-90s and touching 100 mph with his fastball in college.
