Nationals' Anibal Sanchez: Earns fourth win
Sanchez (4-6) earned the win Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and three walks over five innings in a 13-4 victory over the Phillies. He struck out six.
Sanchez gave up a leadoff triple to Kyle Schwarber to begin the first inning and the latter would come around to score after stealing home later in the inning. Sanchez then went on to retire nine of the next 11 batters he faced before J.T. Realmuto kicked off a three-run inning with a leadoff double in the fourth. Sanchez had gone eight straight starts without allowing more than three runs coming into Saturday and has now won four of his last five decisions.

Nationals' Anibal Sanchez: Five scoreless in win
Sanchez (3-6) earned the victory Sunday in Miami, striking out four in five shutout innings while allowing two hits and two walks.
Sanchez was effective but not necessarily efficient in Sunday's ballgame as he needed 95 pitches to complete the five frames. Miami never really threatened, and only one baserunner made it into scoring position. The 38-year-old has allowed two runs or fewer in each of his last seven starts, dropping his season ERA from 7.20 to 4.06 and compiling a 1.31 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 20:16 K:BB in 34.1 innings in that span. His next and possibly final start of the season will likely be next weekend against Philadelphia.

Nationals' Anibal Sanchez: Finally in win column
Sanchez (1-5) picked up the win in Wednesday's 5-1 victory over the A's, allowing one run on three hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out four.
The veteran right-hander put together his best outing of the year as he lasted at least six innings for the first time in nine starts. Sanchez wasn't particularly sharp, tossing 57 of 95 pitches for strikes, but he kept Oakland's hitters off-balance and didn't give up an extra-base hit. Over his last four starts, Sanchez has put together a 2.11 ERA and 1.03 WHIP despite a mediocre 14:10 K:BB through 21.1 innings.

Nationals' Anibal Sanchez: Remains winless after sharp outing
Sanchez didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Mariners, giving up two hits and two walks over 4.1 scoreless innings while striking out two.
The 38-year-old needed 81 pitches (46 strikes) to record 13 outs, but he kept Seattle off the board while he was on the mound, even if he couldn't last long enough to qualify for his first win of the year. Sanchez has dropped his ERA from 7.56 to 5.72 over his last three starts, but his 28:18 K:BB through 39.1 innings on the season and his inability to provide much length put a firm ceiling on his fantasy value, even when he is pitching well.

Nationals' Anibal Sanchez: Allows only one hit in no-decision
Sanchez pitched five innings against San Diego on Thursday, allowing one run on one hit and two walks. He struck out four batters and did not factor in the decision.
Sanchez registered easily his best start of the season, surrendering just one hit -- a fourth-inning Manny Machado solo homer. The right-hander still doesn't have a start this season in which he hasn't surrendered a long ball or given up fewer than two walks, but Sanchez didn't let those mistakes destroy him in this outing. It's been a rough campaign for the veteran -- he's still sporting an ugly 6.43 ERA -- but he's at least been able to chew up some innings, going five or more frames in six of his seven appearances. Sanchez's performance Thursday isn't likely to turn his season around (or lead to any fantasy appeal), but it ranks as a bright spot in what has been an otherwise forgettable 16th big-league campaign.

Nationals' Anibal Sanchez: Goes five innings in no-decision
Sanchez allowed three runs on six hits and three walks while striking out four batters over five innings in a no-decision against San Diego on Saturday.
Sanchez wasn't sharp in the outing, as he threw only 57 of 98 pitches for strikes and tied a season high with three walks. He served up multiple homers for the fourth time in six starts but also tied his best mark this season by giving up three runs. Sanchez has yet to pick up a victory, but he did avoid taking his sixth straight loss. The veteran simply hasn't pitched well in his 16th major-league campaign, posting a 7.20 ERA and 1.60 WHIP over six starts.

Nationals' Anibal Sanchez: Handed second loss
Sanchez (0-2) took the loss during Saturday's 7-2 defeat at the hands of the Diamondbacks, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks with four strikeouts in five innings.
Making his second start of the campaign, Sanchez loaded the bases in the first inning but escaped with just one run scoring and permitted additional runs in the second in the fourth. The 38-year-old struggled a bit with control as only 54 of 93 pitches went for strikes and he's walked two batters in both his starts. Through 10 innings, Sanchez has surrendered seven runs and 14 baserunners with nine strikeouts. He lines up to take the hill again at home against St. Louis next weekend.

Nationals' Anibal Sanchez: Remains in rotation following break
Sanchez will start Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks in Arizona.
Sanchez made his season debut July 14 against Atlanta, working five innings while giving up four earned runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in a losing effort. Though he wasn't overly impressive in his first MLB outing since the 2020 campaign, the 38-year-old right-hander should get an extended look in the Washington rotation nonetheless, given the dearth of appealing alternatives in the organization. Sanchez likely only warrants attention in NL-only formats at this time.

Nationals' Anibal Sanchez: Five innings in return
Sanchez (0-1) took the loss Thursday against Atlanta, allowing four runs on four hits and two walks while striking out five in five innings.
Sanchez got off to a rough start, walking Ronald Acuna and giving up a two-run homer to Dansby Swanson before recording an out. He then settled down and retired 11 of the next 12 batters he faced. The veteran righty gave up a another two-run shot with two outs in the fifth inning, this time to rookie Michael Harris. Thursday's start was Sanchez's first appearance since 2020 after sitting out 2021 and suffering a neck injury before debuting this year. He'll will presumably continue in Washington's rotation following the Midsummer Classic.
