  • Joe Harris: Calls it a career

Harris announced Thursday that he is retiring, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Harris spent his final year in the NBA with the Pistons in 2023-24, when he made 16 appearances and averaged 2.4 points in 10.6 minutes. Harris spent the majority of his career in Brooklyn and was known as a lethal outside shooter, converting 43.5 percent of his career 4.7 three-point attempts per contest.

  • Joe Harris: Parting ways with Detroit

Harris will be waived by the Pistons on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports. Harris averaged over 20 minutes per game across the seven seasons prior to the 2023-24 campaign, but he wasn't a consistent part of the Pistons' rotation after being traded to the team during the offseason. He'll now be let go by Detroit and will be free to sign with a contender if he clears waivers. It wouldn't be surprising to see Harris carve out more consistent playing time if he agrees to terms with another team to close out the year.

  • Pistons' Joe Harris: Gets light run in return

Harris (shoulder) missed his lone field-goal attempt and recorded a blocked shot in four minutes in Friday's 123-91 loss to the Magic. Harris checked into the game with 3:34 left in the first period and stayed in the game for the remainder of the quarter, but he didn't see any action thereafter. The fact that the game turned into a blowout in the second half may have prompted head coach Monty Williams to stay away from Harris, but the 32-year-old doesn't look as though he'll be in store for a major role in any case even though he's now made his way back from the right shoulder strain that had sidelined him for the previous 14 games. Harris will primarily be vying with Alec Burks, Isaiah Livers, Jaden Ivey, Ausar Thompson and Marcus Sasser for reserve minutes on the wing.

Harris will not play in Monday's game against the Warriors due to a right shoulder sprain. Monday's game is the second leg of a back-to-back set, but there's no indication if that factored into the decision. • Pistons' Joe Harris: Goes for 11 points in loss

Harris totaled 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-6 3Pt), two rebounds and one assist over 17 minutes during Wednesday's 110-101 loss to the Trail Blazers. Few Detroit players stood out in this loss against the Blazers, but Harris took advantage of the team's struggles to deliver his best scoring mark of the campaign. He posted season-high marks in both points and minutes played in this one, but at the same time, these numbers suggest he's going to continue holding a minimal role off the bench, a situation that won't improve his fantasy prospects going forward.

  • Pistons' Joe Harris: Minimal role in team debut

Harris had zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt) in 12 minutes during Wednesday's 103-102 loss to the Heat. He averaged just 7.6 points and 2.2 rebounds in 20.6 minutes per game with the Nets last year, and it appears as though he could see an even smaller role early in the 2023-24 campaign.
