49ers win!
Cooper Kupp was tackled short of the sticks on fourth down. Seattle will drop to 3-2, and the 49ers will stay unbeaten at 5-0. Incredible game.

In a chippy, physical contest that felt like a playoff game, the 49ers remained undefeated by recording a 32-29 win over the Seahawks in Seattle.
Eddy Pineiro's 44-yard field goal gave the 49ers the lead with 1:56 left, while San Francisco sealed the win when Cooper Kupp came up just short of the sticks on a fourth-and-10 play with 54 seconds left. Seattle also suffered a drop on its last drive from Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who had been brilliant up until that point.
After taking a 21-13 halftime lead, the 49ers had an atrocious third quarter that included a missed field goal and two turnovers. Seattle took advantage of those miscues and took a 26-21 lead into the final 15 minutes.
The 49ers started the fourth quarter with a 12-play, 74-yard drive that was punctuated by Brock Purdy's seven-yard touchdown pass to Brandin Cooks. Mike Evans, who caught four passes for 75 yards on the drive, increased San Francisco's lead with a 2-point conversion catch.
Seattle responded with Jason Myers' sixth field goal that tied the score with 6:55 left. San Francisco countered with another scoring drive that included runs of 8 and 13 yards by Christian McCaffrey, who ran for a score in the first half.
Each of the first half's four touchdowns was set up by turnovers. The 49ers' defense scored the final touchdown of the half when rookie Gracen Halton scored after he punched the ball out of George Holani's arm in Seattle's end zone.
The 49ers played the entire second half without Dre Greenlaw, who was ejected in the second quarter after headbutting Ernest Jones IV on Seattle's sideline.
Each of the 49ers' three first-half touchdowns was set up by turnovers. Two of those turnovers gave San Francisco the ball inside Seattle's 20-yard line. Talk about field position.
San Francisco's offense cashed in on both opportunities: Evans' touchdown catch occurred four plays after Renardo Green ended Seattle's first drive with an interception. McCaffrey's touchdown run in the second quarter was set up by Fred Warner's strip of Emanuel Wilson.
The 49ers' defense wasn't as good in the second half, but they continued to largely force Seattle to settle for field goals. The unit stood especially tall when it limited Seattle to three points late in the third quarter after a Deebo Samuel fumble gave the Seahawks possession on the 49ers' 36-yard line.
Seattle's inability to run the ball contributed to its lack of touchdowns. The Seahawks averaged just 3.42 yards per carry. The team's only run beyond 10 yards was Smith-Njigba's 16-yard run in the second quarter that, ironically, set up a field goal.
While Seattle's offensive success largely relied on Smith-Njigba (who finished with 102 yards and a score on five catches), the 49ers' offense received several clutch performances.
McCaffrey was his usual efficient self with 83 total yards, including his second-quarter touchdown run. Cooks, who was recently signed by the 49ers, caught a crucial touchdown pass seconds after a last-second Seahawks timeout took a previous score off the board.
No player excelled more, however, than Evans, who continues to rival Kenneth Walker III (Kansas City Chiefs) as this offseason's biggest acquisition.
We'd be remiss not to mention Purdy, who made several clutch plays during the 49ers' final two scoring drives. With the win, Purdy improved his early standing in the MVP race.
Cooper Kupp was tackled short of the sticks on fourth down. Seattle will drop to 3-2, and the 49ers will stay unbeaten at 5-0. Incredible game.
Seahawks quickly get to midfield on a 35-yard catch by JSN.
Eddy Pineiro drills a 44-yard FG with 1:56 left. Seattle doesn't have the two-minute warning, but they do have two time outs left. Rest assured that the 49ers will focus on stopping JSN and making someone else beat them.
I'd also watch Darnold's mobility here. They can't sleep on him making plays outside the pocket.
Jason Myers just made his SIXTH field goal of the game to tie the score with 6:55 left. 49ers have 6:55 and two timeouts to work with.
We'll see if Deebo comes back for this drive. Evans and cooks stepped up big time on the 49ers' last drive.
Cooks scores right after the time out to give the 49ers a 29-26 lead. Evans, fittingly, makes the two-point catch.
The 49ers appeared to get a TD on a Cooks catch, but Seattle called time out just before the snap.
Ageless wonder Mike Evans continues to make big catches. He just pulled down a 23-yard gain as the 49ers are now in scoring range. He's up to 85 yards and a score on six catches.
The 49ers are moving as we begin the fourth quarter. They were outscored 13-0 in that quarter.
That quarter couldn't have been much worse for San Francisco. Their only positive was that they were able to hold Seattle to two field goals.
Deebo is still on the sideline getting work on his left hamstring. CMC also on the sideline to start the fourth quarter.
Seattle extends their lead but have to settle for another FG from Myers. Samuel doesn't appear to be ready to go back into the game.
We'll see how the 49ers respond here after what has been a horrific quarter. I'd assume they'll try to get CMC going here.
Josh Jobe just jumped on Deebo Samuel's fumble in SF territory. That's the 49ers' second turnover of the half in addition to their missed field goal. The Seahawks have a chance to add to their 23-21 lead with 4:59 left in the third.
Samuel is hurt on the play. The 49ers' horrible luck with injuries continues.
JSN scores the go-ahead score three plays after the interception. All five touchdowns today have come off turnovers.
Seattle started the half with an interception. They now lead after SF missed a FG and threw a pick on their first two drives of the half.
Nehemiah Pritchett jumps the route and picks off Purdy on SF's ensuing drive. Excellent play as Seattle is taking back momentum. That's Purdy's second pick of the season and the first since Week 1. It's his first INT of the season on American soil.
Myers hits his third FG of the game as Seattle has trimmed its deficit to 12-16 midway through the third quarter. JSN's condition appears to be worsening, however. We'll monitor it for the remainder of the game.
San Francisco misses a golden chance to take a two-possession lead after the turnover. Seattle is extremely fortunate to only trail by eight points given their four turnovers so far.
If you were wondering what the temperature is like on the field, Mike Evans just dropped an all-time line on Trevon Diggs.
Green gets his second pick of the half after Darnold underthrows the pass. Green was punched by Elijah Arroyo as he was falling to the ground, and the Seahawks are hit with a 15-yard penalty.
SF has a chance to build on its 21-13 lead.
Score: 49ers, 21-13
First downs: Seahawks 8-6
Third down: Both teams 2-7
Total yards: SF 112-110
Red zone: 49ers 2-2, Seattle 1-1
TOP: Seattle 17:15
Purdy: 8-14, 81 yards, TD, 3 sacks
Darnold: 8-14, 79 yards, INT, 4 sacks
JSN: 2 catches, 42 yards
The 49ers extend their lead after Gracen Halten punches the ball out of George Holani's arm in Seattle's end zone. The 49ers jump on the ball and extend their lead to 21-13. Insane play just before halftime.
Dre Greenlaw just got ejected after head butting Ernest Jones IV. Jones is bleeding on the sideline as he did not have his helmet on. Greenlaw found himself on Seattle's sideline after he hit Darnold out of bounds on a late hit.
Seattle got a FG on the drive and cut their deficit to 14-13.
Once again, a turnover sets up a TD. This time, it's Fred Warner's strip of Emanuel Wilson that sets up CMC's short TD run. The 49ers lead 14-10 with 8:17 left until halftime.
That was Warner's league leading third forced fumble this year. Seattle definitely missing Kenneth Walker III, who had three touchdowns against the 49ers in January's playoff win.
Murphy's second sack of Purdy led to another 49ers punt. Defense has dominated this game so far. It's safe to say Seattle's 12 has also had an impact so far.
I'm surprised that Kittle has been a complete non-factor so far. He has no catches and has been targeted only once. The 49ers need a playmaker to step up offensively.
Let's see how JSN looks on this drive after he appeared to get shaken up at the end of this run on Seattle's last drive.
Seattle parlays JSN's 38-yard grab into a 49-yard FG by Jason Myers early in the second quarter.
Both teams have been horrible on third down. The 49ers are 1 of 4, and Seattle is 1 of 5 so far on third down.
JSN doesn't appear to be 100%. He was upended on a 16-yard run on that drive.
The first quarter ends with JSN making his first catch -- a 38-yarder -- two plays after Murphy's sack. That play accounted for 36% of both teams' offensive production in the opening quarter.
It took until the final minute of the first quarter of the 49ers' first game for Purdy to suffer his first sack of the 2026 season. It came courtesy of Byron Murphy on third-and-1 on Seattle's 46. The sack was a great play by Murphy, but Kyle Shanahan's decision to go play-action on third-and-1 is a head scratcher. Slow start for Purdy, who is 3 of 8 for 29 yards.
Seattle takes over at its own 8 with 39 seconds left in the opening quarter. Both touchdowns in the game so far were set up by turnovers.
Seattle capitalizes on a muffed punt with an Emanuel Wilson TD that ties the score with 4:52 left in the first.
The muffed gave Seattle the ball on San Francisco's 24-yard-line. Wilson has essentially been Seattle's offense so far. He has 23 of Seattle's 28 total yards.
An interception by Renardo Green sets up Purdy's two-yard touchdown pass to Mike Evans as San Francisco takes an early 7-0 lead.
Evans has been a red zone machine so far for the 49ers. Despite being hampered by injuries, Evans already has three touchdowns this season.
San Francisco quickly punts as Purdy is unable to complete his first two pass attempts. Jaden Dugger immediately sacks Darnold for a seven-yard loss, so both defenses making their marks early.
49ers start the game with the ball.
I moved Purdy to No. 2 in my early MVP watch story last week. He could become the early MVP front runner with a winning performance today.
Purdy has thrown at least two touchdown passes in every game this season. He has yet to throw an interception on American soil; his only pick this season was vs. the Rams in Australia back in Week 1.
The Seahawks' offense is 31st in the NFL this season in third down efficiency. Some of that is a byproduct of not having Sam Darnold for the majority of their first two games of the season.
Rest assured that the 49ers will be focused on forcing Seattle into third and obvious pass situations. When that happens, they will undoubtedly rolled coverage over to Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who is coming off of his least productive game of the season. This should give Cooper Kupp some opportunities to make an impact.
Seattle waxed the 49ers, 41-6, in the NFC divisional round enroute to winning the Super Bowl.
Rasid Shaheed started the game with a 95-yard kickoff return that proved to be the game-winning score. Current Chief Kenneth Walker III scored three touchdowns in a game that was never close.
The 49ers, per usual, had a host of injuries that surely contributed to the lopsided score. For example, they lost TE George Kittle to a season-ending injury during the previous week's win over the Eagles.
49ers are much healthier today, although they continue to deal with an alarming number of injuries.
