Jets' Geno Smith: Perfect on lone drive Friday
Smith completed all seven of his pass attempts for 65 yards and a touchdown in Friday's 17-0 preseason win over the Steelers.
After sitting out the preseason opener due to a sore ankle, Smith saw the first game action of his second stint with the Jets. He played only the opening drive but was sharp during his brief time in the game, completing all seven of his passes to six different targets, including a 13-yard touchdown pass to Jelani Woods. Smith looks like he's in midseason form already, so it remains to be seen if the veteran QB will get any action in next Friday's preseason finale against the Giants.

Jets' Geno Smith: On track to face Steelers on Friday
Smith is scheduled to start Friday's preseason game against the Steelers, Connor Hughes of SNYtv reports.
Smith sat out the Jets' preseason opener due to a sore ankle, paving the way for rookie fourth-round pick Cade Klubnik to get the start. The veteran starter has since recovered and is set for the first game action of his second stint with the Jets. Smith sits safely atop the team's QB depth chart, while Klubnik looks like the favorite to secure the backup role over Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook.

Jets' Geno Smith: Present for Monday's practice
Smith (ankle) was on the field for Monday's practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Per Cimini, Smith -- who didn't play in this past Friday's preseason game against the Buccaneers -- sported a sleeve on his lower left leg as he participated in Monday's walkthrough. It remains to be seen if the QB will be limited at practice in the coming days, but either way, Smith's next chance to see game action arrives this Friday against the Steelers.

Jets' Geno Smith: Practices fully Monday
Smith (ankle) was a full participant in Monday's training camp practice, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Smith was spotted wearing a sleeve on his lower leg and was limping slightly at times during Monday's practice. Still, it was a positive sign from the veteran quarterback, who did not play in the Jets' preseason opener against the Buccaneers this past Friday due to left ankle soreness. It remains to be seen whether Smith and the other starters will play in the Jets' next preseason game, which takes place this Friday on the road against the Steelers.

Jets' Geno Smith: Not playing Friday due to foot soreness
Smith won't play in Friday's preseason game against the Buccaneers due to a sore foot, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
On Tuesday, coach Aaron Glenn told Al Iannazzone of Newsday that Smith and the rest of the Jets' starters would log some snaps Friday. While an injury to Smith has quelled those plans, the team isn't concerned about it, and he'd play through it if it was the regular season. Instead, New York will take a cautious approach with its starting quarterback, meaning his next chance for exhibition action is next Friday at Pittsburgh.

Jets' Geno Smith: Has sore ankle, is day-to-day
Coach Aaron Glenn said after Friday's 24-16 preseason loss to the Buccaneers that Smith sat out the contest due to a sore ankle and is day-to-day, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Per Glenn, Smith picked up the injury during the Jets' joint practice with Tampa Bay on Wednesday. Considering Smith is deemed day-to-day, the Jets likely will exercise caution with him until he's back to 100 percent. In any case, his next opportunity for exhibition action is next Friday at Pittsburgh.

Jets' Geno Smith: Scheduled to play in preseason opener
Coach Aaron Glenn noted Tuesday that the Jets' starters, a group that includes Smith, will play in Friday's preseason opener against the Buccaneers, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
It remains to be seen how much work Smith will see Friday, but after the veteran QB gets his reps in, Cade Klubnik, Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe are candidates to see action against Tampa Bay. As the coming campaign approaches, Smith is slated to lead a New York offense paced by top RB Breece Hall and which features a diverse pass-catching group that includes WRs Garrett Wilson, Adonai Mitchell and Omar Cooper, as well as TEs Kenyon Sadiq (hernia) and Mason Taylor.
