  • Buccaneers' Miles Killebrew: Signs with Tampa Bay

Killebrew (knee) signed a one-year, $1.8 million contract with Tampa Bay on Thursday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports. The 32-year-old is a former All-Pro special teams player and will reunite with former Steelers special teams coordinator Danny Smith with the Bucs. Killebrew sustained a season-ending knee injury in Week 6 last season but appears to be healthy.

  • Steelers' Miles Killebrew: Out for season

Killebrew (knee) will miss the remainder of the season, Brooke Pryor of ESPN reports. Head coach Mike Tomlin announced that Killebrew underwent knee surgery to address the injury he suffered in the team's Week 6 win over the Browns. The 32-year-old will finish the season having recorded five tackles (three solo) across five outings, while playing exclusively on special teams. He will now shift his focus toward getting healthy for the 2026 campaign.

  • Steelers' Miles Killebrew: Ruled out with non-contact injury

Killebrew (knee) has been ruled out for the rest of Sunday's game against the Browns, Alan Saunders of SteelersNow.com reports. Killebrew appeared to suffer a noncontact injury and had to be helped off the field, per Mike DeFabo of The Athletic. Killebrew has been limited to special-teams work this season, but with Chuck Clark (coach's decision) inactive, Juan Thornhill will be the lone rotational safety for the Steelers behind Jabrill Peppers and DeShon Elliott for the rest of Sunday's game.

  • Steelers' Miles Killebrew: Staying in Pittsburgh

The Steelers re-signed Killebrew to a two-year deal Wednesday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Killebrew will stay in Pittsburgh for the next two campaigns after first joining the team in 2021. While the 30-year-old can contribute as a reserve defender, most of his value comes from his work on special teams, which earned Killebrew his first Pro Bowl appearance a season ago.

  • Lions' Miles Killebrew: Unavailable against Falcons

Killebrew (personal) won't play in Sunday's game versus the Falcons, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. Killebrew has operated exclusively on special teams this season, so his absence won't shake up the defensive dynamic. His next chance to suit up will be Week 8 against the Colts.

  • Lions' Miles Killebrew: Special-teams mainstay in 2018

Killebrew tallied five tackles in 16 games during the 2018 season. Killebrew did nothing to separate himself in the offseason and ultimately saw the field for just one defensive snap in 2018. His physical tools are undeniable, but he hasn't found a way to get on the field despite being experimented with at both safety and linebacker. His roster spot is probably safe for the time being given his insignificant cap hit, but Killebrew has a lot of work to do in order to resurface on the IDP radar.

  • Lions' Miles Killebrew: Dabbling at linebacker

Killebrew worked exclusively as a linebacker in individual drills this week, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. Killebrew has worked as the No. 5 safety in offseason workouts and doesn't have a clear defensive role in advance of the 2018 season. There's been no word on whether his position change is permanent, but the Lions nonetheless seem intent on finding ways to get the third-year player on the field this season. At 6-foot-2 and 222 pounds, Killebrew possesses favorable size for a dime- and nickel-package linebacker, and creative head coach Matt Patricia could experiment with a number of different alignments to take advantage of Killebrew's notorious physicality.

  • Lions' Miles Killebrew: Nursing unspecified injury

Killebrew (undisclosed) didn't play in Friday's preseason game against the Patriots, Kyle Meinke of MLive Media Group reports. The nature of Killebrew's injury wasn't specified, and it isn't clear how long he could be out. He's locked into a roster spot, so it wouldn't be a huge deal if he was forced to miss the preseason finale.

  • Lions' Miles Killebrew: Suffers eye injury

Killebrew injured his eye during Monday night's game against the Cowboys and is doubtful to return, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports. The details of Killebrew's eye injury aren't clear. With roughly four minutes left in the game, it's extremely doubtful he makes a return.

  • Lions' Miles Killebrew: Competing at strong safety

Killebrew will compete with Rafael Bush and Tavon Wilson for the Lions' starting strong safety position, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press reports. The Lions set at the free safety position with veteran Glover Quinn (ankle), but the strong safety job looks to be an open and intense competition. Initially there was concern about Killebrew's coverage ability, but he'll be given every chance to prove he can handle coverage at the NFL level, where he'll likely be asked to cover tight ends. Due to the veteran presence of Bush and Wilson, it would be surprising if Killebrew became the team's Week 1 starter, but it is likely that he gets some backup snaps to start the year.

  • Lions' Miles Killebrew: Lions take hard-hitting safety in fourth round

The Lions selected Killebrew in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, 111th overall. Killebrew earned a reputation as a big-tiime hitter during his time at Southern Utah. He can come up and help out in run support and his size (6-2, 217) will allow him to hold up at the next level. There are questions about his instincts and coverage skills, and if he can't adjust, he could have to transition to an outside linebacker/hybrid safety type of role. The fact that the Lions took Killebrew in the fourth round suggests that the likes of Don Carey or Isaiah Johnson could be on the hot seat as far as strong safeties on the roster.
