Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters Friday that Johnson (oblique) won't play in Sunday's matchup against the Texans, Alaina Getzenberg of ESPN.com reports.
Johnson likely sustained this oblique injury during the Bills' Week 4 loss to the Ravens and didn't practice the entire week, so it's no surprise that he won't be suiting up in Week 5. With Johnson sidelined Sunday, expect Zion Logue to see additional reps as one of the Bills' top reserve interior defensive linemen.

Johnson (calf) was left off Buffalo's injury report Wednesday ahead of Sunday's Week 1 game against the Cardinals.
Johnson sustained a calf injury during the Bills' preseason game against the Steelers, but it now appears that he's moved past the issue. The veteran defensive tackle appeared in 17 regular-season games with the Chargers last season, recording 46 total tackles and two passes defended. He's expected to serve as a rotational piece on the Bills' defensive line in his first season in Buffalo.

Bills' Austin Johnson: Inks deal with Buffalo
Johnson has signed a one-year contract with the Bills, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
As he enters his seventh season, Buffalo will be Johnson's fourth team. He recorded 46 tackles (24 solo), two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery across 17 games for the Chargers last year. The journeyman will now compete for depth reps on the interior defensive line behind DaQuan Jones and Ed Oliver in the upcoming season.

Johnson made eight tackles, including five solo, in the Chargers' 63-21 defeat to the Raiders on Thursday.
Johnson also played on 54 percent of the defensive snaps. The eighth-year veteran has 39 tackles, two passes defensed, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery in 2023.

Chargers' Austin Johnson: Passes physical
Johnson (knee) has been removed from the Chargers' active/PUP list after passing his physical Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Johnson has been recovering from an MCL injury in his knee that occurred in Week 9 of last year. Prior to that injury, the veteran defensive tackle accumulated 22 tackles, three tackles for loss and one sack across eight games. Barring any setbacks, he is expected to start at nose tackle heading into the season.

Johnson suffered a fractured knee and MCL injury in the Chargers' Week 9 win over the Chargers and spent the remainder of the 2022 season on injured reserve. The veteran defensive tackle has yet to participate in the Chargers' offseason program while he works his way back from the injury. Before getting injured last season, Johnson tallied 22 tackles and one sack in eight games.
