Mayfield completed 18 of 29 passes for 116 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions and added three rushing yards on three carries in the Buccaneers' 23-20 loss to the 49ers on Sunday. He also committed three fumbles, recovering two.
Mayfield averaged just 4.0 yards per attempt and was sacked twice, and he ultimately was frustrated repeatedly while working against a talented defense with a short-handed pass-catching corps. Mayfield couldn't facilitate anything more than a 39-yard performance for his pass catchers on the way to his lowest yardage total of the season. However, Mayfield was able to drive Tampa Bay into position for a game-tying field goal late before San Francisco answered with one of its own to win the game. Mayfield and the Bucs now head into a Week 11 bye, and the veteran signal-caller should have Mike Evans (hamstring) at his disposal when Tampa Bay returns to action against the Giants at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 24.

Mayfield was one of five Buccaneers held out of practice Wednesday, two days after he played all 52 of the team's offensive snaps in a 30-24 overtime loss to the Chiefs. The quarterback didn't appear to be bothered by an injury during the contest, but a toe issue will end up keeping him off the practice field for the second day in a row. Though the Buccaneers haven't suggested that the injury will prevent Mayfield from playing Sunday, he may end up carrying a designation into the weekend if he sits out or is a limited participant in Friday's practice.

Mayfield continues to surprise us despite the loss of Chris Godwin (ankle) and Mike Evans (hamstring), and he also didn't have Jalen McMillan (hamstring) in Week 9 at Kansas City when he scored 22 Fantasy points. That's now 50.3 Fantasy points in two games without his top receivers, but it's tough to feel confident about Mayfield against the 49ers in Week 10. Only two quarterbacks have scored more than 18.7 Fantasy points against San Francisco this season and none since Week 5, including matchups with Geno Smith, Patrick Mahomes, and Dak Prescott. Mayfield is more of a bust alert than a must-sit quarterback, but I don't love the matchup for him this week.

Mayfield was able to force overtime Monday at Kansas City but then never got a chance to move the ball in the extra period in an eventual 30-24 loss. Mayfield himself is now tending to a health concern, so his status will be monitored as the week continues to see if he may be in danger of sitting out Sunday against the 49ers.

Fantasy managers certainly won't take exception with Mayfield's final numbers, but they were in large part a byproduct of a game script that saw the Buccaneers trailing by 24 entering the fourth quarter thanks to 34 unanswered points by Baltimore. He also lost Mike Evans to a hamstring injury in the first half shortly after connecting with him on a 25-yard scoring strike, making the quarterback's final yardage tally, his highest of the season, all the more noteworthy. Mayfield has now eclipsed 300 yards on three occasions overall in the first seven games, and by adding scoring tosses of 11 and 23 yards to Rachaad White in the fourth quarter, the veteran signal-caller now has at least three touchdown passes in three consecutive contests. However, Mayfield could be hard-pressed to keep his strong stretch of production going in a key Week 8 divisional clash against the Falcons; in addition to a potential Evans absence, Chris Godwin was carted off in the final minute of Monday's game with what Scott Smith of the team's official site relays could be a dislocated ankle that head coach Todd Bowles expressed concern about in his postgame press conference.

Mayfield authored his third straight multi-touchdown tally while putting together his second 300-yard effort of the campaign as well. Mayfield was nearly flawless in the Buccaneers 2024 home opener, missing just six pass attempts and committing no turnovers in a comfortable win. The 2018 first-overall pick looked the part in his second season starting for Tampa Bay, feeding top wideouts Mike Evans (5/61/2) and Chris Godwin (8/83/1) the football early and often. Mayfield looks like a great value pick after being drafted in the mid to late rounds in fantasy drafts. Now we will witness how this offense performs on the road against a tough Detroit defense next Sunday.
Mayfield is my number one projected streamer this week at 18.4 Fantasy points. I would start him over Cousins and Rodgers. The Commanders gave up the most Fantasy points per game to opposing QBs last year. There is a little bit of risk with the new offensive coordinator but that's mostly made up for by the fact that he has Mike Evans and Chris Godwin.
