  • Colts' Sean McKeon: Inks deal with Colts

The Colts signed McKeon to a reserve/future contract Monday. McKeon was elevated to the Colts' active roster in Week 18, where he played seven snaps on offense and eight on special teams, but the 28-year-old did not generate any stats. McKeon will have the opportunity to participate in the Colts' offseason activities and attempt to earn a spot on their active roster next season.

  • Colts' Sean McKeon: Elevated to active roster

The Colts elevated McKeon from the practice squad to the active roster Saturday. McKeon signed with the Colts' practice squad in August. If he suits up and plays Sunday, it will be his first action this season. With Will Mallory and Drew Ogletree ruled out for the season finale, McKeon will likely play in the No. 3 tight end spot behind Tyler Warren and Mo Alie-Cox.

  • Sean McKeon: Gets spot on practice squad

McKeon signed with the Colts' practice squad Wednesday. The tight end was released Tuesday after falling short of the 53-man roster, and after clearing waivers, he finds himself in the same spot where he spent the entire 2024 season: on the Colts' practice squad. McKeon last saw NFL regular-season action in 2023 with Dallas, and he last caught a pass in a regular-season game the year before that, also with Dallas.

  • Sean McKeon: Cut by Indianapolis

The Colts released McKeon on Tuesday, Amanda Foster of the team's official site reports. McKeon inked a futures deal with the Colts in January after spending the entire 2024 season on the team's practice squad. He finished the preseason with two catches on as many targets for eight yards across two games, but his performance throughout training camp wasn't enough for him to crack the 53-man roster. McKeon will likely clear waivers, at which point he could remain in Indianapolis by joining the Colts' practice squad for a second consecutive year.

  • Sean McKeon: Let go by Lions

McKeon was released by Detroit on Tuesday. McKeon played in nine regular-season games for the Cowboys last year but ended the campaign on IR due to an ankle injury. He signed a contract with the Lions in May and caught both his targets for 19 yards during the exhibition slate, but he didn't make the cut for the 53-man roster. Sam LaPorta (hamstring), Brock Wright and Parker Hesse will serve as Detroit's tight ends to open the campaign.

  • Lions' Sean McKeon: Inks in Detroit

The Lions signed McKeon to a contract Thursday. McKeon suffered an ankle injury last December and was placed on IR after suiting up for nine games with the Cowboys, in which span he failed to secure either of his two targets. He can contribute both on special teams and as a blocker on offense, and McKeon, who's presumably past his ankle issue, now gets a chance to compete for a depth role with Detroit.

  • Cowboys' Sean McKeon: Joins Dallas roster

The Cowboys signed McKeon to their 53-man active roster Thursday. McKeon's promotion to the practice squad comes in response to fellow tight end Peyton Hendershot (ankle) being placed on injured reserve Thursday. The 25-year-old was already elevated for two games this season, playing 23 total snaps on offense and 30 on special teams. For the duration of his stay on the roster, McKeon will likely serve as the Cowboys' No. 3 tight end behind Jake Ferguson and Luke Schoonmaker.

  • Sean McKeon: Reverts to practice squad

McKeon reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday. McKeon saw six snaps on offense and 17 on special teams and even managed to log a tackle following one of Dak Prescott's interceptions. If Peyton Hendershot (ankle) ends up being out again next week against the Chargers, McKeon could be in line to be to play for the third straight week.

  • Sean McKeon: Back to practice squad

McKeon reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday. Mckeon played 18 of 70 offensive snaps Sunday against the Patriots while filling in for Peyton Hendershot (ankle). McKeon could return to the active roster in Week 5 against the 49ers if Hendershot is unable to suit up.

  • Cowboys' Sean McKeon: Promoted to active roster

The Cowboys elevated McKeon to the active roster Saturday, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. McKeon was signed to the Cowboys' practice squad Aug. 31 after being cut by the team two days earlier ahead of the 53-man roster deadline. He could be active for Sunday's contest against the Patriots if tight end Peyton Hendershot (ankle) is ruled out.

  • Sean McKeon: Cut by Dallas

The Cowboys waived McKeon on Tuesday, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. McKeon appeared in 13 games for Dallas last year, securing two of three targets for 11 yards. The 2020 undrafted tight end out of Michigan played in 36 contests over the past three years, so it's surprising to see him cut, especially given Dalton Schultz left this offseason and John Stephens tore his ACL during training camp. Gehlken notes that Dallas hopes to sign McKeon to a practice-squad deal if he clears waivers.

  • Cowboys' Sean McKeon: Summoned from practice squad again

Dallas elevated McKeon to the 53-man roster Saturday ahead of Sunday's Week 7 clash against the Commanders. This is the third elevation of the season for McKeon, who was also active in Weeks 3 and 6. He has logged 20 total offensive snaps on the campaign, catching his only target for 10 yards. Since he's now been elevated three times, he'll need to be signed to the 53-man roster the next time the Cowboys desire his services for gameday.

  • Sean McKeon: Returns to practice squad

McKeon reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log. McKeon was elevated to Dallas' active roster for the second game in a row, as tight end Dalton Schultz was still unable to suit up while dealing with a lingering PCL sprain. As a result, the 24-year-old hauled in his lone target for 10 yards while playing nine of the Cowboys' 67 offensive snaps behind Peyton Hendershot and Jake Ferguson. McKeon also appeared on seven special-teams snaps, and he is now eligible for just one more elevation from Dallas' practice squad this season.

  • Cowboys' Sean McKeon: Elevated for Week 3

McKeon (ankle) has been elevated from the practice squad ahead of Monday's game against the Giants. McKeon's elevation suggests that he has recovered from the ankle injury that began bothering him in August. He'll provide depth at tight end for the Cowboys, who are expected to be without Dalton Schultz (knee).

  • Sean McKeon: Joins Cowboys' practice squad

McKeon (ankle) has signed with the Cowboys' practice squad, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports. McKeon was competing with Peyton Hendershot for the No. 3 tight end role with Dallas. While he ultimately came up short, he will remain with the team on the practice squad. So, he could potentially get called up to the 53-man roster at some point should the team become thin at his position.

  • Sean McKeon: Waived by Dallas

The Cowboys waived McKeon (ankle) on Tuesday, Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site reports. McKeon has appeared in 23 games for Dallas over the last two seasons, securing four of six targets for 27 yards and a touchdown during that time. However, he was unable to make the Cowboys' 53-man roster in 2022. He dealt with an ankle injury in practice last week, and it's not yet clear when he'll be back to full health. However, the 24-year-old wasn't waived with an injury designation, so he'll be free to sign elsewhere if he goes unclaimed on waivers.

  • Cowboys' Sean McKeon: Opportunity for bigger role

McKeon participated in workouts with Dak Prescott and other key members of the Cowboys offense earlier this month, Jon Machota of The Athletic reports. Top tight end Dalton Schultz was part of the group, as were CeeDee Lamb, Ezekiel Elliott and 2022 third-round pick Jalen Tolbert, which makes the inclusion of a depth TE like McKeon stand out. Heading into his third NFL season, the undrafted player out of Michigan has seen most of his action on special teams so far, but with Blake Jarwin no long on the Dallas roster, McKeon has a chance to win a much more significant role on offense. His main competition for the No. 2 spot behind Schultz will likely come from rookie Jake Ferguson, a fourth-round pick in this year's draft.

  • Cowboys' Sean McKeon: Scores first career TD in 2021

McKeon caught four of six targets for 27 yards and a touchdown across nine games this season. He missed the first eight weeks of the season due to an ankle injury, but McKeon found a role as a blocker and depth tight end upon his return, and he scored his first career TD on Thanksgiving against the Raiders. The undrafted player has one more year remaining on his current contract, and he could see a larger role in 2022 if Dalton Schultz leaves in free agency.

  • Cowboys' Sean McKeon: Makes first two grabs of NFL career

McKeon caught both his targets for 15 yards in Sunday's 43-3 win over the Falcons. With Blake Jarwin (hip) on injured reserve, McKeon has slid into the No. 2 tight end role for Dallas, and Sunday's receptions were the first of his career. The second-year player will retain a bit part in a potent Cowboys offense until Jarwin gets healthy, making McKeon a potential deep league dart throw Week 11 against Kansas City.

  • Cowboys' Sean McKeon: Activated from IR

McKeon (anke) was activated from IR on Wednesday, Rob Phillips of the Cowboys' official site reports. McKeon was injured in a preseason game against the Cardinals and was placed on IR on Sept. 3. The second-year pro played 14 games last season with the Cowboys -- primarily on special teams -- and never made a reception. His return comes at an opportune time since backup tight end Blake Jarwin (hip) is questionable for the Cowboys' Week 9 contest against the Broncos.
