  • 49ers' De'Zhaun Stribling: Missing practice again

Stribling (hamstring) remains day-to-day and won't practice Monday, Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com reports.

Stribling also sat out Saturday's session due to hamstring tightness, joining Mike Evans (quadriceps), Christian Kirk (calf) and Ricky Pearsall (knee, IR) as currently injured 49ers wide receivers. Once Stribling is back to full health, he'll be competing for WR reps behind Evans, Deebo Samuel and Kirk, but until then, the likes of Demarcus Robinson, Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing will pick up the slack at the position.

  • 49ers' De'Zhaun Stribling: Nursing hamstring tightness

Stribling will not participate in Saturday's training camp practice due to hamstring tightness, David Lombardi of SFStandard.com reports.

Stribling's absence Saturday is out of precaution, with the positive news being that he's dealing with tightness, rather than a strain. Still, it's yet another injury to the Niners' pass-catching corps, with Ricky Pearsall set to undergo season-ending surgery to repair the PCL in his right knee. Deebo Samuel was signed by San Francisco on Friday to solidify the team's depth at wideout in Pearsall's absence, but Stribling -- when healthy -- will have plenty of chances to earn a consistent role for himself in the offense alongside Samuel, Mike Evans and Christian Kirk (calf).

  • 49ers' De'Zhaun Stribling: Set for expanded role sans Pearsall

Stribling will have the opportunity to earn an expanded role in the 49ers' offense after Ricky Pearsall (knee) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

Pearsall was held out of training camp practices earlier this week due to a PCL injury in his right knee, which has been deemed severe enough for the third-year wideout to undergo season-ending surgery. The Niners signed veteran Deebo Samuel to a one-year contract Friday, but both Stribling and Demarcus Robinson will have an opportunity to compete for an expanded role in the offense alongside Mike Evans and Christian Kirk (calf). Stribling was a second-round selection of the 49ers in the 2026 NFL Draft following his final college season at Ole Miss, when he logged 55 catches for 811 yards and six touchdowns across 15 games.

  • 49ers' De'Zhaun Stribling: Pick motivated by intangibles?

The 49ers' selection of Stribling at No. 33 overall in the 2026 NFL Draft was partially motivated by the organization's strong belief in his personality, leadership and work ethic, according to Matt Barrow of The Athletic.

It also doesn't hurt to have 4.36 speed at 6-foot-2, 207 pounds. Mock drafters nonetheless projected Stribling as a mid-round pick, for the most part, due to concerns about age (24 in December) and his lack of an elite statistical season in college (career highs of 882 yards and six TDs). Reasonable arguments both, though the latter concern is somewhat mitigated by his combination of early success (44-471-5 in 2021 at Washington State) and strong cumulative production (2,964 career receiving yards across three schools). It sounds like the 49ers are even more impressed by Stribling's intangibles/personality, having given him their "gold helmet" label -- a designation they use each year for a handful of prospects viewed as the best culture fits. The franchise clearly is invested in Stribling's success, but his immediate future may entail a not-so-glamorous competition for the No. 3 WR job in an offense that prefers FB Kyle Juszczyk over a third WR outside of clear passing situations. The 49ers also have Christian Kirk, Demarcus Robinson and 2025 fourth-round pick Jordan Watkins hoping to compete for depth roles behind Mike Evans and Ricky Pearsall, both of whom missed large portions of 2025.
