Tuten and Chris Rodriguez are listed as co-starters on the Jaguars' initial unofficial depth chart, Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union reports.
Preseason depth charts can often be taken with a grain of salt, but in this case the 'Tuten or Rodriguez' listing aligns with the notion that the Jaguars will employ a committee approach -- possibly resulting in Tuten and Rodriguez forming a 1A/1B combo -- to fill the void created by the offseason departure of last year's leading rusher Travis Etienne. Also in the mix for Jacksonville's backfield touches in that context is LeQuint Allen, who could factor in on third downs. In any case, regardless of how the team's carries/targets are distributed come Week 1, Tuten's share figures to be enough to merit fantasy lineup consideration out of the gate this season.

Jaguars' Bhayshul Tuten: Rotates with Rodriguez in scrimmage
During Friday's scrimmage, Tuten started the first drive with the Jaguars' offense with LeQuint Allen mixing in on third down, then Chris Rodriguez started the second drive before rotating with Tuten, John Shipley of SI.com reports.
Shipley notes that the Jaguars subsequently settled into a rotation where Tuten would open the drives, Rodriguez would come on the field when the team was within the 10-yard line, and then Allen would play all of the third downs. While this remains an ongoing job battle as Rodriguez works his way back from a foot injury, the scrimmage did at least provide some hints on how the Jaguars could approach their backfield workload come Week 1. For now, things seem to trending toward a committee approach that could result in Tuten and Rodriguez forming a 1A/1B combo, with Allen as a change-of-pace option.

Jaguars' Bhayshul Tuten: Early lead in RB competition?
With Chris Rodriguez (foot) not yet ready for team drills, Tuten got the bulk of the first-team reps with the offense during Wednesday's training camp practice, John Shipley of SI.com reports.
As Shipley notes, the battle for backfield slotting between Tuten and Rodriguez will be one to monitor closely, but for now Shipley suggests that it looks like Tuten -- who looked sharp during Wednesday's session -- is taking the lead early on. That said, Rodriguez is being eased back into the mix after having undergone an offseason foot procedure, so the competition between the two figures to heat up once he's able to work fully. Either way, with Travis Etienne -- who recorded 260 carries in 17 regular-season games in 2025 -- no longer in the mix, Tuten's role is destined to expand in 2026, but it remains to be seen how the team's carries will be distributed come Week 1, with a committee approach featuring Tuten, Rodriguez and LeQuint Allen, to a lesser degree, a plausible outcome.

Jaguars' Bhayshul Tuten: Draws praise from head coach
Jaguars head coach Liam Coen said Wednesday in an appearance on "The Schrager Hour" podcast that he's "definitely expecting Tuten to have a big year" after the running back had "a really good spring."
Coen's comments only add to the buzz surrounding Tuten heading into training camp, as the second-year back had already been expected to see an enhanced profile in the Jacksonville offense in 2026 after the team let Travis Etienne walk in free agency. As a rookie, Tuten produced seven touchdowns on 93 touches while mainly serving as a short-yardage complement to Etienne, but the 23-year-old ran a 4.32-second 40-yard dash in the pre-draft process and put that explosiveness on display in the Jaguars' playoff loss to the Bills, reeling off three runs for 10-plus yards. The extent to which Tuten's role will evolve in Year 2 is still difficult to project. Jacksonville brought in bruiser Chris Rodriguez (foot) on a two-year deal this offseason, and while he could end up taking most of the snaps on early downs and in short-yardage situations, it might clear the way for Tuten to absorb some of the functions that Etienne had handled in 2025. The usage of Tuten, Rodriguez and to a lesser extent, LeQuint Allen, will all bear monitoring during the preseason to get a sense of how Coen plans to deploy his backs once the regular season gets underway.

Jaguars' Bhayshul Tuten: Backfield timeshare likely
In the wake of the offseason departure of Travis Etienne, John Shipley of SI.com notes that "all signs point" to the Jaguars employing a timeshare backfield led by Tuten and Chris Rodriguez (foot).
LeQuint Allen will also mix in to some degree, but there's likely to be a heated battle between Tuten - who's coming off a strong offseason program -- and Rodriguez (who is bouncing back from a foot procedure) for the top spot during training camp, and coach Liam Coen has referred to the situation as "truly wide open." Tuten's upside as a pass-catcher could give him a narrow edge over Rodriguez when it comes to touch and snap volume, but this is a looming committee situation from a fantasy perspective.

Jaguars' Bhayshul Tuten: Added reps with fellow RB sidelined
With Chris Rodriguez recovering from a foot procedure, Tuten and LeQuint Allen took the majority of the Jaguars' running back reps during OTAs and at Tuesday's mandatory minicamp session, Michael DiRocco of ESPN reports.
According to coach Liam Coen, Rodriguez "will be full go come training camp" after hurting his left foot at the beginning of the team's offseason conditioning program. Once he's back on the field, the free-agent addition is set to compete with Tuten and Allen for slotting in a backfield that no longer includes Travis Etienne. As a rookie last season, Tuten gained 307 yards and five TDs on 83 carries while adding 10 catches for 79 yards and a pair of receiving TDs in 15 regular-season contests. The 2025 fourth-rounder has an opportunity to carve a larger role this season, but Coen previously referred to the situation as "truly wide open," per John Shipley of SI.com, and at this stage there's no clear favorite for the top job.

Tuten finished second on the team in carries as a rookie during the regular season, as the 2025 fourth-round pick rushed 83 times for 307 yards and five touchdowns while working as the backup to Travis Etienne, who subsequently signed a four-year contract with the Saints in free agency. Jacksonville brought in Rodriguez on a two-year, $10-million contract but didn't draft any running backs, setting Tuten and Rodriguez up to split most of the carries ahead of passing-down specialists LeQuint Allen and DeeJay Dallas.
