  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: Returns to practice

Hendrickson (chest) returned to practice Wednesday, Chris Roling of USA Today reports.

Hendrickson missed the last week of practice due to a chest bruise, but the 29-year-old defensive end was back in pads for Wednesday's session. The 2017 third-round pick out of Florida Atlantic is coming off a career-best 17.5 sacks in 2023, and while he is seeking an extension, he has opted not to hold out during training camp. Hendrickson and the rest of the Bengals' starters should see the field for at least the first series of Saturday's preseason opener against the Buccaneers, per Geoff Hobson of the team's official site.

  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: Week-to-week with chest injury

Head coach Zac Taylor told reporters Thursday that Hendrickson is considered week-to-week due to a chest bruise, Tom Pelissero of NFL.com reports.

Hendrickson is coming off the most productive season of his career, finishing 2023 with 43 tackles (28 solo), including a career-high 17.5 sacks, along with three passes defended and three forced fumbles across 17 regular-season games. He requested a trade in April after not receiving a long-term extension from the Bengals, but he did not hold out of offseason workouts and is participating in training camp. His chest injury could keep him out of the Bengals' first preseason game against the Buccaneers on Aug. 10, but he could suit up against the Bears on Aug. 17.

  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: Participating in offseason workouts

Hendrickson is participating in the Bengals' offseason workouts despite requesting a trade in late April, Kelsey Conway of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Hendrickson is under contract for the next two seasons and set to make $15 million in 2024, but he's unhappy with the lack of long-term security that Cincinnati has been willing to offer. The 29-year-old edge rusher is coming off the most productive season of his career, putting up 43 total tackles, including a career-best 16 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. With Hendrickson participating in the Bengals' offseason workouts, he's expected to continue wreaking havoc on opposing quarterbacks in 2024, whether that's in Cincinnati or elsewhere.

  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: Cincinnati not interested in trade

The Bengals aren't interested in trading Hendrickson, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Per Ben Baby of ESPN.com, the defensive end requested a trade Wednesday, with Hendrickson's reported motivation being that he's seeking a long-term commitment from the Bengals. At present, the 29-year-old -- who finished last season with 17.5 sacks -- is signed with Cincinnati through 2025. At this stage, the team doesn't appear inclined to deal the star pass rusher, a stance that also applies to wideout Tee Higgins, who also requested a trade earlier this offseason.

  • Bengals' Trey Hendrickson: Seeking trade

Hendrickson recently requested to be traded from Cincinnati, a league source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Per Schefter, Hendrickson -- who is under contract for $15 million in 2024 and is on the books through 2025 -- is looking for more long-term security than the Bengals have been willing to offer to this point. The 29-year-old is coming of a 2023 campaign in which he recorded 43 tackles and made a major impact as a pass rusher by racking up a career-high 17.5 sacks over 17 games.
