Lions' Anthony Firkser: Sent to IR with leg injury
The Lions placed Firkser (leg) on injured reserve Tuesday.
Firkser was injured in Monday's practice and will now either spend the entirety of the 2026 season on the Lions' injured reserve list or be let go with an injury settlement at a later date. The veteran tight end appeared in seven regular-season games with Detroit last season, securing eight of 10 targets for 53 scoreless yards.

Lions' Anthony Firkser: Being evaluated for leg injury
Firkser left Monday's practice session due to a leg injury, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.
Firkser signed with the Lions on Friday to compete for a spot in the tight-end room in the wake of Tyler Conklin's (knee) injury. Firkser now appears to have picked up an injury of his own, and the severity of the issue will likely determine if he can make a push to garner a spot on the team's 2026 roster.

The Commanders signed Firkser on Tuesday.
Firkser is now joining his fourth different team in three years with offseason workouts underway in Washington. It seems likely at this point that free-agent acquisition Chig Okonkwo, in-line specialist John Bates and 2024 second-rounder Ben Sinnott will make the Commanders' 53-man roster for 2026, so Firkser's path to a roster spot is relatively narrow.

Lions' Anthony Firkser: Eight catches in 2025
Firkser caught eight of 10 targets for 53 yards over seven contests during the 2025 regular season.
Firkser signed with the Lions' practice squad in mid-November and was quickly elevated to the active roster ahead of the team's Week 12 matchup with the Giants due to Sam LaPorta (back) being sidelined. The tight end's role quickly expanded after Brock Wright (neck) went down for the year in Week 13, and Firkser ultimately caught at least one pass in four of the seven games he appeared in with the team. Prior to this season, Firkser hadn't reeled in a pass since the 2022 campaign, and he'll now be a free agent heading into the offseason.

Lions' Anthony Firkser: Blanked in Week 17
Firkser failed to reel in his only target in Thursday's 23-10 loss to the Vikings.
Firkser was unable to secure a pass for the second time in three weeks and the third time over six contests since making his season debut Nov. 23. The tight end once again split time with Shane Zylstra in Week 17, and Firkser did garner a target while Zylstra did not. Firkser will have one more chance to reach the end zone for the first time since 2021 when the Lions travel to face the Bears in Week 18.

Lions' Anthony Firkser: Secures four passes in loss
Firkser caught all four of his targets for 40 yards in Sunday's 29-24 loss to the Steelers.
Firkser saw a similar workload on offense, logging 25 snaps with the unit after 22 in Week 15, but he was able to secure four passes. The tight end played 20 fewer snaps on offense than Shane Zylstra (45), but Firkser was able to finish with one more catch than his teammate. Firkser and Zylstra will likely continue to split the offensive opportunities at tight end against the Vikings on Christmas Day, limiting both of their production.

Firkser didn't draw a target in Sunday's 41-34 loss to the Rams.
Firkser saw his offensive snap count drop from 35 to 22 in Week 15 with Shane Zylstra returning from a knee injury that forced him to miss 11 contests. Firkser has now caught both of his targets for 11 yards while playing 75 snaps on offense over four games with Detroit this year, and he has little to no fantasy utility moving forward.
