The safety clearly thinks he can get healthy in time to sign with another organization during 2026 and is now a free agent. The safety was waived/injured by the team Sunday. Strickland will now need to reach an injury settlement with Detroit to have a chance to play in 2026. A year ago, he appeared in two regular-season contests for the Lions, seeing more snaps on special teams (33) than defense (14).

Strickland (thumb) was a full participant in Wednesday's practice.
Strickland was unable to suit up for the Lions' regular-season opener due to a thumb injury, but it now appears he's moved past the issue. Expect the 24-year-old to play primarily on special teams as the Lions face the Buccaneers in Week 2.
Strickland (thumb) has been ruled out ahead of Sunday's game against the Rams, Eric Woodyard of ESPN.com reports.
Strickland failed to practice all week due to a thumb injury, so being ruled out for Detroit's regular-season opener Sunday comes as no surprise. Expect Brandon Joseph to assume the reserve safety role with both Strickland and Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) likely sidelined.
