  • Commanders' Antonio Williams: Catches TD in NFL debut

Williams hauled in all four of his targets for 64 yards and a touchdown during the Commanders' 24-22 loss to the Eagles on Sunday.

Williams played only 26 of 70 offensive snaps (37.1 percent), which was fourth most among Commanders wide receivers in Sunday's loss. However, the rookie third-rounder ended up leading the Commanders in receiving yards while finishing second behind veteran Stefon Diggs in targets (nine). Williams was close to scoring on his first NFL catch for 16 yards late in the second quarter, falling short of the goal line before Jacory Croskey-Merritt punched the ball in on a one-yard rushing touchdown on the next play. Williams followed that up with a 33-yard catch early in the fourth quarter before hauling in a one-yard touchdown pass from Jayden Daniels late in the frame. It was an encouraging NFL debut from Williams, who may have benefited from the Eagles secondary focusing on limiting Terry McLaurin, though the former may have shown enough against Philadelphia to warrant additional playing time moving forward. The Commanders will stay on the road for their Week 2 clash against the Cowboys on Sept. 20.

  • Commanders' Antonio Williams: Doesn't suit up Friday

Williams didn't play in Friday's preseason loss to the Ravens.

The third-round rookie out of Clemson has been coming on strong as training camp has progressed, and per Donna Hopkins of MASN, Williams opened some eyes in joint practices against Baltimore earlier in the week when he beat Kyle Hamilton in one-on-one drills. The fact that Williams was held out Friday along with the rest of the Commanders' key personnel could be a strong sign that he's won the No. 3 receiver job to begin the season over the likes of Luke McCaffrey, Dyami Brown and Jaylin Lane, but he still faces an uphill battle for targets working behind Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs.

  • Commanders' Antonio Williams: Three catches Saturday

Williams caught all three of his targets for 41 yards in Saturday's 17-13 preseason loss to the Lions.

Williams matched Jacoby Jones for the most Commanders receptions, exceeding Jones' total production by four yards. Due to the offseason addition of Stefon Diggs, the third-round rookie is currently set to be the No. 4 option behind Terry McLaurin, Diggs and Luke McCaffrey. If Williams can keep logging productive performances in preseason and practice, the Commanders will likely find ways to keep the young talent on the field once the regular season commences.

  • Commanders' Antonio Williams: Solid gain on one reception

Williams brought in one of three targets for 16 yards in the Commanders' 20-7 preseason win over the Dolphins on Friday.

The rookie third-round pick has been impressing in camp and even receiving some limited first-team reps, so his busy and productive night Friday relative to playing time wasn't surprising. Williams outperformed Luke McCaffrey (zero catches on two targets), who's directly above him on the Commanders' unofficial depth chart, against the Dolphins, and it remains to be seen if the Clemson product can keep pushing his veteran teammate in Washington's second preseason game on the road against the Lions on Saturday, Aug. 22.

  • Commanders' Antonio Williams: Getting some first-team reps

Williams received some reps with the Commanders' first-team offense during Tuesday's practice, Denton Day of 106-7 The Fan Washington reports.

Though Day relays that Williams handled only a "sprinkling" of reps, the rookie third-round pick's usage with the starters is a promising development nonetheless. Given the lack of established personnel at receiver beyond top target Terry McLaurin, Williams should get plenty of chances during training camp and the preseason to stake a claim to the Commanders' top slot role. Luke McCaffrey would appear to represent Williams' top competition for that job.
