  • Chargers' Omarion Hampton: Ruled out for Week 13

Hampton (ankle) won't play Sunday against the Raiders, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.

Hampton, whose 21-day practice window was opened Tuesday, was limited at practice this week, but he won't be activated from IR ahead of Week 13 action and thus will target a potential return to the lineup Monday, Dec. 8 against the Eagles. In Hampton's continued absence, Kimani Vidal once again is in line to pace the Chargers backfield this weekend, with Trayveon Williams, Jaret Patterson and Amar Johnson all options to come up from the practice squad. Per Kris Rhim of ESPN.com, Hampton revealed Wednesday that he is bouncing back from a left ankle fracture that he sustained Week 5, and the running back was sporting a yellow (non-contact) jersey in practice Friday, per Rhim. Meanwhile, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that coach Jim Harbaugh told reporters that "it was a good week" for Hampton, "really beneficial, ramping up. Everything's on track to return, (but) not this week."

  • Chargers' Omarion Hampton: Back at practice, limited Wednesday

Hampton (ankle) was limited in his return to practice Wednesday, Eric Smith of the Chargers' official site reports.

Hampton, who last saw game action in Week 5 when he sustained a fractured ankle, was designated to return from IR on Tuesday, which has the running back trending in the right direction ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders. Per Smith, Hampton's Week 13 availability presumably hinges on how he fares this week at practice, but for his part, the 2025 first-rounder is anxious to return to the lineup. "They haven't told me yet, but I'm waiting to find out. Whatever my doc says," Hampton noted Wednesday. "I want to, for sure. But it's whatever the doc says." In any case, in order for Hampton to be available versus Las Vegas, he'd need to be activated from IR by Saturday afternoon.

  • Chargers' Omarion Hampton: Set to split work with Vidal?

Chargers offensive coordinator Greg Roman said Wednesday that Hampton (ankle) and Kimani Vidal likely will be deployed in "some sort of 1-2 punch," Alex Insdorf of BoltBeat.com reports.

The good news for Hampton's fantasy managers is that Roman talked about the rookie as if he is ready to return for Sunday's matchup with Las Vegas. The bad news is that Roman suggested Vidal will remain involved, with the stipulation that the Chargers will "play that one by ear." Of course, the team's plan for Hampton's first game back from injured reserve won't necessarily be the plan for the rest of the season. Before any of that happens, he'll need to prove his health and fitness on the practice field.

  • Chargers' Omarion Hampton: Cleared for practice

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said that Hampton (ankle) will have his 21-day practice window opened Tuesday, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

Coming out of the Chargers' Week 12 bye, Hampton has made enough progress in his recovery from a left ankle injury to resume practicing for the first time since early October. Because the rookie has missed the Chargers' last six games with the injury, he'll likely need to get in at least one full practice by Friday in order to have a realistic chance at being activated from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's game against the Raiders. Whenever he's added back to the 53-man roster, Hampton should overtake Kimani Vidal as the lead option out of the Los Angeles backfield.

  • Chargers' Omarion Hampton: Working on side Friday

Hampton (ankle) is working off to the side at Friday's practice, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports.

Hampton won't be listed as a participant in practice, but his ability to work in any capacity is an encouraging step in the right direction as the rookie running back recovers from an ankle injury that landed him on injured reserve. Hampton has already spent the requisite four weeks on IR, but coach Jim Harbaugh said earlier in the week that Hampton isn't expected to return until after the Chargers' Week 12 bye.

  • Chargers' Omarion Hampton: Will miss at least two more games

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh said that Hampton (ankle) isn't expected to be designated for return from injured reserve until after the team's Week 12 bye, Kris Rhim of ESPN.com reports.

Though Hampton is eligible to resume practicing in Week 10, the rookie running back hasn't made enough progress in his recovery from an ankle injury for the Chargers to open up his 21-day evaluation window. Hampton looks set to remain sidelined for at least three more weeks, with his earliest potential return date coming Sunday, Nov. 30 against the Raiders. Los Angeles is expected to proceed with Kimani Vidal and Jaret Patterson as its main options out of the backfield for at least the next two games.
