Thompson was sporting a non-contact jersey during Sunday's session, but it's a positive sign after he was held out of Saturday's practice due to an unspecified injury. The rookie fourth-rounder is battling for a rotational spot in the Chargers' offense, and he'll look to make his case for regular playing time in Thursday's preseason finale against the Rams. Thompson has caught three passes on eight targets for 39 yards through two preseason games, adding one punt return for 12 yards.

Chargers' Brenen Thompson: Absent from Saturday's practice
Thompson (undisclosed) did not participate in Saturday's practice, Alex Insdorf of BoltBeat.com reports.
Thompson exited Thursday's preseason game against the 49ers early due to injury. He was taken to the blue medical tent and his night was promptly over. It remains unclear what type of injury Thompson is dealing with, but a quick exit and inability to practice are not good signs. If the 23-year-old must miss time, KeAndre Lambert-Smith could see significantly more attention in the rest of the preseason and the start of the regular season.

Thompson caught one of two targets for nine yards in Thursday night's 41-17 preseason loss to the 49ers.
Thompson was targeted six times in last Thursday's contest against the Texans. The rookie fourth-rounder did not see much action against the 49ers, with both targets taking place in the first quarter before the wide receiver was ushered out of the game. Thompson played just nine snaps in the contest, totalling 15 percent of the Chargers' total offensive plays.

Thompson tied KeAndre Lambert-Smith for the team lead in targets as the Chargers got the rookie fourth-round pick involved in Thompson's first taste of NFL action. Both Thompson and Lambert-Smith are trying to push Tre' Harris for a spot in three-receiver sets alongside Ladd McConkey and Quentin Johnston. The Chargers selected Thompson in the fourth round of the 2026 NFL Draft, 105th overall.
Thompson is a speedster who put up eye-popping numbers in Jeff Lebby's offense at Mississippi State in 2025, racking up 57 grabs for 1,054 yards and six touchdowns. He's undersized at 5-foot-9, 166 pounds, however, he possesses blazing speed, posting a 4.26 40-time at the NFL Combine, which isn't surprising given his track background. The Chargers already have a trio of impressive receivers in Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston and Tre' Harris, but Thompson could slot in behind that group and see the field in the slot if McConkey needs a breather or misses any time.
