Top Tyson Bagent News

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Near perfect in preseason finale

Bagent completed 16 of 17 passes for 208 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and rushed twice for 21 yards in the Bears' 24-15 preseason win over the Titans on Saturday. He also lost a fumble.

Bagent wasted no time setting the tone for what would be a prolific night, hitting rookie Zavion Thomas for a 97-yard catch-and-run touchdown on Chicago's first play from scrimmage. Bagent subsequently showed some nice touch on a fourth-down scoring strike to Maurice Alexander with just under five minutes remaining in the second quarter, and the only blemish on his night besides his sole incompletion was a lost fumble on a snap just inside Titans territory late in the first quarter. Bagent had a stellar two-game preseason, completing 29 of 39 pass attempts for 377 yards with a 3:1 TD:INT while adding three carries for 28 yards. However, veteran Case Keenum also was effective across three exhibitions and certainly has the experience edge, so it remains to be seen who'll garner the No. 2 quarterback job behind Caleb Williams to open the season.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Back to practice

Bagent (hamstring) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Bagent was sidelined last week due to a hamstring injury he suffered during the Bears' preseason opener against the Browns. The backup quarterback is back in action and has a good chance to participate in Saturday's preseason finale against the Titans.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Considered week-to-week

Bagent is still dealing with a hamstring injury and did not join the team on its trip to Cincinnati for a preseason game this Saturday, Courtney Cronin of ESPN.com reports.

Bears coach Ben Johnson referred to Bagent as "week-to-week," per Cronin. The backup quarterback suffered the injury during Saturday's preseason win over Cleveland. Case Keenum and Miller Moss should see most of the action at quarterback against the Bengals with Bagent away from the team, though it's unclear if starter Caleb Williams will play.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Bothered by hamstring injury

Bagent suffered a hamstring injury during Saturday's preseason win over Cleveland, making him unlikely to practice or play this week, Mark Carman of CHGO Bears reports.

With Bagent unlikely to play in the Bears' second preseason game Saturday against the Bengals, Case Keenum and Miller Moss figure to take most of the QB snaps. Coach Ben Johnson hasn't yet said if Caleb Williams and other starters will play.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Plays first half in preseason opener

Bagent completed 13 of 22 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown with an interception in Saturday's 34-10 preseason win over the Browns. He added seven yards on his lone carry.

Caleb Williams got the day off in the Bears' preseason opener, and Bagent played the entire first half while leading two scoring drives, the first of which ended in a 25-yard TD toss to depth wideout Maurice Alexander in the second quarter. Bagent remains ahead of Case Keenum, who took over to begin the second half, on the QB depth chart, but it would take an injury to Williams for either to see meaningful action in 2026.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Starting preseason opener as Williams rests

Bagent is in line to start and play the first half of Saturday's preseason opener against the Browns, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Head coach Ben Johnson named Bagent the starter for Saturday's game and added that Caleb Williams won't play Saturday and may not see action at all in the preseason. Bagent is firmly penciled in as Williams' backup in a quarterback room that also includes Case Keenum and Miller Moss.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Subject of trade chatter

Bears GM Ryan Poles said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that teams have called about the availability of Bagent via trade this offseason, Patrick Finley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Bagent was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Shepherd in 2023 and started four games as a rookie, completing 94 of 143 passes for 859 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions across five total appearances. He's attempted just six regular-season passes over the last two campaigns but has looked good during the preseason when on the field. Bagent has two years remaining on his contract at $4 million each season, so he's very affordable and could be a stop-gap option for a rebuilding team.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: No longer under the weather

Bagent (illness) was a full participant in Tuesday's walkthrough practice.

Bagent was unable to serve as Caleb Williams' backup quarterback during Sunday's win over the Browns due to an illness. By working in full Tuesday, Bagent is on track to be available against the Packers on Saturday, so Case Keenum will likely revert to the QB3 role.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Sent home Sunday due to illness

Bagent is inactive for Sunday's Week 15 matchup against Cleveland due to an illness.

Bagent was added to the injury report early Sunday because of the illness, and Mark Carman of the CHGO Bears podcast indicates Chicago decided to send the quarterback home. As such, Case Keenum will serve as the Bears' backup QB behind Caleb Williams on Sunday.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Falls ill, iffy for Sunday

The Bears added Bagent to the injury report and list him as questionable for Sunday's game against the Browns due to an illness.

Bagent has served as the Bears' No. 2 quarterback throughout the season, but if the ailment prevents him from suiting up Sunday, Case Keenum would step in as the top backup to starter Caleb Williams.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Attempts one pass in win

Bagent completed his only pass for 20 yards in the Bears' 47-42 win over the Bengals on Sunday.

Bagent threw a pass completed pass on a trick play to Caleb Williams, while the former remains a clear backup to the team's leader. Bagent holds no fantasy value in single-QB formats.

  • Bears' Tyson Bagent: Sees work in garbage time

Bagent completed two of three passes for 27 yards along with two rushes for seven yards in the Bears' 52-21 loss to the Lions on Sunday.

Bagent was in for mop-up duty in a game in which the Bears were blown out. The veteran is only expected to see time in blowouts or if Caleb Williams misses time.
