Jets' Kenyon Sadiq: Out for now, should play Week 1
Head coach Aaron Glenn expressed optimism Thursday that Sadiq (hernia) will be available for the start of the regular season, though the rookie first-round pick will likely miss "a couple weeks" of practices.
After undergoing hernia surgery in the spring, Sadiq was cleared in advance of training camp but practiced just three days before being shut down earlier this week when he experienced a setback in his recovery. Though the missed practice time in camp and the preseason isn't ideal for a young player fighting for a starting job, Sadiq still looks on track to be ready to go for Week 1, if not the Jets' exhibition finale Aug. 28 versus the Giants. While Sadiq is sidelined for the time being, Mason Taylor will likely take most of the reps at tight end with the first-team offense.

Jets' Kenyon Sadiq: Optimism for Week 1 status
Coach Aaron Glenn noted Tuesday that he's "very confident" Sadiq (abdomen) will be ready for Week 1 action, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
Though the tight end suffered a setback in his recovery from the hernia surgery he underwent in the spring and will miss some time, it doesn't look like his absence will extend into the regular season. While the 2026 first-rounder is unable to practice, added TE reps behind Mason Taylor will be available for Jeremy Ruckert, Jelani Woods and Chase Curtis.

Jets' Kenyon Sadiq: Suffers setback in recovery
Jets head coach Aaron Glenn said Tuesday that Sadiq suffered a setback in his recovery from the hernia surgery he underwent in the spring and will be "out for a little bit," Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Sadiq took part in the first three days of training camp, but after he wasn't present for a second straight practice Tuesday, Glenn said prior to the workout that the rookie first-round pick was on a "maintenance program," per Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. However, Glenn acknowledged after practice that Sadiq's consecutive absences weren't simply for rest purposes, and the 21-year-old now looks like he'll be out for the start of the preseason after not bouncing back from his hernia surgery as well as the Jets had hoped. According to Rosenblatt, Glenn added that he's not worried about a long-term absence for Sadiq and is "very confident" that the young tight end will be ready to go for Week 1. In any event, the missed practice time during training camp is likely to hurt Sadiq's chances of carving out a major role on offense once the season gets underway. Mason Taylor should receive most of the reps at tight end with the first-team offense while Sadiq is sidelined.

The 2026 first-rounder missed OTAs and minicamp due to hernia surgery, but as expected Sadiq is ready for training camp. As a rookie, Sadiq -- who ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at the 2026 NFL Combine -- has a chance to emerge as a key pass-catching option for QB Geno Smith while working in a TE corps that also includes 2025 second-rounder Mason Taylor and Jeremy Ruckert.

Jets' Kenyon Sadiq: Expected to be ready for camp
Sadiq (abdomen) is expected to be ready for training camp, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Sadiq missed OTAs and minicamp due to hernia surgery, which stemmed from a college injury that the Jets said they were aware of when they drafted Sadiq with the 16th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Sadiq will have to play catch-up once healthy, but offensive coordinator Frank Reich has a plan for getting the athletic tight end up to speed. Reich views Sadiq as a mismatch for defenders due to the rookie's mix of speed (4.39-second 40-yard dash) and size (6-foot-3, 241 pounds).

Jets' Kenyon Sadiq: Out for OTAs after hernia surgery
Coach Aaron Glenn said Sadiq (abdomen) underwent a "minor procedure" and will miss OTAs this week, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Glenn said the first-round rookie will be ready for training camp later this summer after undergoing surgery for a sports hernia. While listed as a tight end, Sadiq is expected to mainly line up detached from the line as more of a receiver with the Jets, allowing Mason Taylor and Jeremy Ruckert to handle more of the traditional tight end duties.
