Justin Shorter: Finds work in Vegas
Shorter signed with the Raiders' practice squad Thursday.
It appears that Shorter is switching positions after playing wide receiver throughout college and in the NFL, as he was announced as a tight end when the Raiders signed him to their practice squad Thursday. At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds with a 4.55 40-yard dash time, Shorter becomes a very intriguing vertical threat at TE if he can make it onto Las Vegas' active roster at any point this season.

Justin Shorter: Cut by Buffalo
The Bills waived Shorter on Tuesday, Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com reports.
Once a top recruit coming out of high school, Shorter never put it all together at Penn State and Florida before being taken in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft by Buffalo. He missed his entire rookie season with a hamstring injury and then dealt with a knee issue this summer. Shorter played 52 offensive snaps this preseason but caught just two passes for 15 yards. At 6-foot-4 and 223 pounds with 4.55 wheels, Shorter has a tantalizing blend of size and speed but has yet to realize that potential.

Bills' Justin Shorter: Recovers from knee injury
Shorter (knee) returned to practice Monday, Katherine Fitzgerald of The Buffalo News reports.
Shorter is healthy once again after sitting out practice last week due to a knee injury. The 24-year-old will now compete for a roster spot as a backup receiver after missing the entirety of last season with a hamstring injury.

Shorter spent the 2023 campaign on IR due to a hamstring injury after the Bills selected him in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. The Florida product is a sizable target at 6-foot-4 and should be in contention for a depth role in Buffalo's receiving corps if he can get and stay healthy.

Shorter is in line to compete for depth slotting behind fellow wide receivers Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman and Curtis Samuel in training camp, Jay Skurski of The Buffalo News reports.
The Bills took Shorter in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, but he never saw game action after being placed on injured reserve ahead of the regular season on account of a hamstring injury. Though Shorter was designated to return from IR in December and resumed practicing with the team, he wasn't activated before his 21-day evaluation window closed. Now presumably past his hamstring injury, the 6-foot-4 wideout will vie with Chase Claypool, Mack Hollins, KJ Hamler, Andy Isabella and Quintez Cephus for a reserve role.

Bills' Justin Shorter: Will not play this season
Shorter (hamstring) had his 21-day practice window closed Wednesday, and he'll remain on injured reserve for the rest of the season, Matt Parrino of The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.
Shorter was designated to return from IR on Dec. 13, but he was unable to find his way onto the 53-man roster. Since his practice window has closed, he is now forced back onto injured reserve and will not be able to play or practice with the team for the remainder of the campaign. The 2023 fifth-round selection did not play a regular-season game with the Bills this year but will work to return healthy next season and carve out a regular role for himself in the team's receiving corps then.

Bills' Justin Shorter: Won't play Sunday
Shorter (hamstring) will not be activated from injured reserve before Saturday's game against the Chargers.
Shorter has been practicing with the team since he was designated to return from injured reserve Dec. 13. However, the rookie receiver will remain sidelined for at least one more game before he makes his NFL debut. His next opportunity to suit up will be Week 17 against the Patriots.

Shorter was a fifth-round selection in the 2023 NFL Draft and has yet to play this season after going on IR on Aug. 30. He'll now have a 21-day window to practice with the team before the Bills would need to add him to the 53-man roster, but the wideout would be eligible to play this weekend against the Cowboys if the coaching staff determines he's ready to contribute.

Shorter, a fifth-round pick out of Florida, made the Bills' initial 53-man roster after finishing the preseason with six catches for 66 yards and a touchdown while also contributing to special teams. However, after picking up the hamstring injury and going on IR, he'll be required to miss at least the first four games of the season. Once activated, Shorter will likely handle a depth role in the Bills' receiving corps.
