Colts' Alec Pierce: Working out but will sit Saturday
Pierce (ankle) is working out prior to Saturday's preseason game against the Lions but will not play, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
Pierce was activated from the Active/PUP list Thursday, but he is not ready to appear in a game just yet. He will keep building up over the next two weeks with an eye on suiting up for his team's Week 1 matchup with the Ravens.

Colts' Alec Pierce: Activated from Active/PUP list
Pierce (ankle) is slated to be activated from the active/PUP list Thursday, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports.
Pierce has been sidelined since undergoing ankle surgery in March, and after encountering some hiccups that prevented him from participating in training camp he is now ready to get back on the field. It was reported earlier in August that Pierce was expected to be available in Week 1, and although that is not a lock, the wideout's looming practice participation has him trending toward that outcome, with over two weeks to prepare for his club's season-opening matchup with the Ravens.

Colts' Alec Pierce: May practice this week
Pierce (ankle) will not practice Tuesday, but coach Shane Steichen said he's optimistic the wideout will practice this week, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.
Steichen added that there have been no conversations about keeping Pierce on the PUP list. The wideout continues to work his way back from a clean-up procedure on his ankle back in April. It sounds as though a return to practice is on the horizon, potentially even this week.

Colts' Alec Pierce: Moving around well, per Steichen
Coach Shane Steichen told Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis on Wednesday that Pierce (ankle) is "in a great spot right now. ... Hopefully, we will have him back soon."
When Pierce initially underwent a clean-up procedure on his left ankle in April, he was facing a three-month recovery timetable. He then kicked off training camp on the active/PUP list, where he remains as of Wednesday. On Tuesday, Pierce put in some individual work on the side under the supervision of a trainer, and Steichen noted that the wide receiver was "moving around really good." Once Pierce gets healthy -- whenever that may be -- he'll be looking to justify the four-year, $114 million contract he signed with the Colts back in March.

Colts' Alec Pierce: Won't return during training camp
Head coach Shane Steichen said Sunday that he doesn't expect Pierce (ankle) to return during joint practices leading up to the Colts' second preseason game against the Falcons on Saturday, so Pierce will have missed all of training camp, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.
The Colts' expectation has been that Pierce will recover in time to face the Ravens in the Sept. 13 regular-season opener, but Pierce's recovery from April surgery on his left ankle has limited him to individual work up until this point, and he's still at least a week away from ramping up to full practice participation. Josh Downs, Ashton Dulin and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine are the top healthy options in the Colts' wide receiver room.
