  • Chargers' Derius Davis: Two touches against Las Vegas

Davis rushed the ball twice for nine yards in Sunday's 22-10 win over the Raiders.

Davis failed to record a single target in the contest and played just seven of the Chargers' 57 offensive snaps. Buried on the wide receiver depth chart, Davis will likely struggle to see ample opportunities on a consistent basis. Nonetheless, Davis will have another opportunity to step forward in the offense when the Chargers visit the Panthers in Week 2.

  • Chargers' Derius Davis: Takes only touch to house

Davis had only one touch in Saturday's 26-19 preseason win over the Cowboys, taking an end-around 70 yards for a touchdown on the Chargers' first play from scrimmage.

The 2023 fourth-round pick may have done all he needed to do to secure his spot on the 53-man roster with one carry, as Davis took the handoff from Easton Stick, beat a couple Dallas defenders to the corner and took off down the sideline. Davis figures to be the Chargers' primary kick returner this season, but with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams (knee) both now wearing other uniforms, the team's wide receiver corps has a lot of snaps and targets up for grabs. If players like Joshua Palmer, DJ Chark (hip) and Quentin Johnston don't step up, Davis could get some opportunities on offense as the season progresses.

  • Chargers' Derius Davis: Hardly used as receiver

Davis caught his only target for 18 yards in Sunday's 13-12 loss to the Chiefs. He also tallied three carries for 17 yards and recorded 69 kick-return yards.

Despite all the injuries to Chargers wideouts, the 2023 fourth-round pick was merely a gadget option, as Davis had nearly as many receptions (15) as carries (14) in his pro debut. The speedy target might have been unceremoniously passed over on the depth chart by castoff receivers such as Alex Erickson, Keelan Doss and Jalen Guyton, but Davis did prove to be an effective return man, combining for 760 return yards to go along with one touchdown. Los Angeles' receiving corps could undergo a massive overhaul due to cap woes, which would leave Davis and fellow TCU target Quentin Johnston as one of the last few pass catchers standing entering the 2024 campaign.

  • Chargers' Derius Davis: Plays exclusively special teams

Davis played all 12 of his snaps on special teams in Sunday's 24-7 loss to the Broncos and returned two kickoffs for 44 yards.

For the first time in his 13 appearances this season, Davis failed to take a snap on offense, with the Chargers prioritizing all of Keenan Allen, Quentin Johnston, Alex Erickson and Jalen Guyton ahead of him at receiver. The Chargers will return Joshua Palmer (knee) from injured reserve for Thursday's game in Las Vegas, so Davis is set to drop down another spot on the depth chart. Davis should continue to remain active on game days through his role as the Chargers' top option on kickoff and punt returns.

  • Chargers' Derius Davis: Limited involvement against Packers

Davis caught his lone target for minus-3 yards in Sunday's 23-20 loss to the Packers.

Davis operated as the Chargers' No. 4 wide receiver, playing just seven of the 65 offensive snaps Sunday. The rookie's utilization leaves much to be desired, yet he has proven to have the ability to make plays with his impressive speed. Nonetheless, Davis shouldn't be trusted for fantasy purposes when the Chargers host the Ravens in Week 12.

  • Chargers' Derius Davis: Plays 15 snaps in loss

Davis caught both of his targets for seven yards in Sunday's 41-38 loss to the Lions.

The rookie speedster played a career-high 15 offensive snaps in what became a shootout almost from the word go. One week after registering an 84-yard punt-return touchdown, Davis ripped off a nice 27-yard kickoff return and now has four games with at least a combined 30 return yards. The lack of playing time will make it difficult to roster the rookie even in deeper fantasy leagues, but he's clearly a playmaker for an offense that has been inconsistent at times this year.

  • Chargers' Derius Davis: First career punt return TD

Davis did not record a yard on his lone reception in Monday's 27-6 win over the Jets, but he did return a 87-yard punt return to open the scoring in the first quarter.

Davis only played offensive snaps as the Jets' offense barely put up a fight. The rookie did kick off the scoring for the Chargers on the second punt of the game, returning it 87 yards for a massive special teams touchdown. It's clear the electric speedster can be a gamechanger when he has the ball, but to this point he's hardly been utilized by the offense.
