  • Falcons' Ruke Orhorhoro: Won't debut Week 1

Orhorhoro (coach's decision) is inactive for Sunday's game against the Steelers, Tori McElhaney of the Falcons' official site reports.

Orhorhoro battled a shoulder injury during training camp but was omitted from the Falcons' Week 1 injury reports. However, the rookie won't make his NFL regular-season debut versus Pittsburgh after being a healthy scratch. With Brandon Dorlus (coach's decision) also inactive, the Falcons may have to rely heavily on their starting defensive line -- Grady Jarrett, David Onyemata and Zach Harrison.

  • Falcons' Ruke Orhorhoro: Plays in preseason game

Orhorhoro (shoulder) played in the Falcons' preseason game against the Jaguars on Friday.

The defensive lineman started the contest and played on 46, or 59 percent, of the team's defensive snaps. The 2024 second-round pick is on track to begin the season as a backup lineman. Orhorhoro was a third-team All-ACC selection in 2023 at Clemson after recording 25 tackles, including 5.0 sacks.

  • Falcons' Ruke Orhorhoro: Considered day-to-day

Coach Raheem Morris said Thursday that Orhorhoro (shoulder) is day-to-day, D. Orlando Ledbetter of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Orhorhoro doesn't appear slated to miss much time, but his shoulder injury could impact his availability for Saturday's preseason game against the Ravens. The rookie second-round pick is expected to contribute in a key role for Atlanta's pass rush, which just added Matthew Judon via trade Wednesday.

  • Falcons' Ruke Orhorhoro: Onward to the ATL

The Falcons selected Orhorhohro in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 35th overall.

The Falcons continue to surprise with their draft selections after taking quarterback Michael Penix with the eighth overall pick Thursday. Orhorhoro going ahead of fellow defensive tackles Johnny Newton and Kris Jenkins was unexpected. A five-year player at Clemson, Orhorhoro is on the lighter side for a defensive tackle at 294 pounds on a 6-foot-4 frame but tested well at the combine, highlighted by a 4.89-second 40-yard dash. He did not begin playing football until his junior year of high school, which quells some concern regarding his advanced age coming into the league as he's still getting experience under his belt. He projects to challenge for snaps at the left defensive end spot in the Falcons' 3-4 front.
