Dolphins' Malik Washington: Solid in all-purpose role
Washington brought in three of eight targets for 53 yards, returned three kickoffs for 56 yards and ran back one punt for 17 yards in the Dolphins' 27-13 loss to the Raiders on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
Washington's turnover was the one blemish on an otherwise encouraging afternoon, as the fumble came at the two-minute warning after a 26-yard reception and snuffed out any last-gasp chance at a comeback for Miami. Washington also finished as the team leader in targets and second in receiving yards for the Dolphins, and he matched Caleb Douglas for a team-high 30-yard catch. The 2024 sixth-round pick also put in solid work as a returner, and he should remain heavily involved on both offense and special teams in a Week 2 road matchup against the 49ers.

Dolphins' Malik Washington: First-team billing on depth chart
Washington is listed as a starting wide receiver on the Dolphins' unofficial depth chart.
Miami almost entirely retooled its receiving corps this offseason, releasing Tyreek Hill in February, trading Jaylen Waddle to the Broncos in March, signing Jalen Tolbert in free agency and then drafting three WRs (Caleb Douglas, Chris Bell and Kevin Coleman) in the 2026 Draft. Washington is the only holdover from 2025, a season in which he hauled in 46 of 65 targets for 317 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing 17 times for 110 yards and one more TD. In addition to an expected increase in snaps while working with new QB Malik Willis, Washington again will serve as the team's primary kick returner and perhaps on punt returns as well.

Dolphins' Malik Washington: Not playing Saturday
Washington is not playing in Saturday's preseason game against the Giants, C. Isaiah Smalls II of the Miami Herald reports.
Washington played in the Dolphins' preseason opener against the Commanders on Friday, Aug. 14, when he caught three passes on as many targets for 15 yards. He'll be idle for Saturday's exhibition contest, so Jalen Tolbert, Tutu Atwell and rookie third-rounder Caleb Douglas are all in line for increased work.

Dolphins' Malik Washington: Team-high catch total in preseason loss
Washington brought in all three targets for 15 yards in the Dolphins' 20-7 preseason loss to the Commanders on Friday.
The third-year pro's catch total led the Dolphins on the night, as Washington opened the game with the first-team offense and recorded his first two catches, which netted 12 yards, on Miami's first two plays from scrimmage. Washington supplied a career-best 46 receptions in 2025, and he currently heads up Miami's wide-receiver depth chart heading into the Dolphins' second preseason game on Saturday, Aug. 22 at home against the Giants.

Dolphins' Malik Washington: Improves route running
Dolphins offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik highlighted Washington's improvement as a route runner this offseason, C. Isaiah Smalls of the Miami Herald reports.
The most noticeable improvement is his footwork and how he's getting in and out of breaks is really clean," Slowik said. "You can tell he's really, really bought in to how we want to release, and he's as good as he's looked since I've been here." Washington was primarily used near the line of scrimmage under former coach Mike McDaniel, but the new staff is allowing Washington to work more down the field this summer, and he's already showing strong chemistry with Malik Willis. Washington is in the mix for WR1 duties in Miami along with guys like Jalen Tolbert, Tutu Atwell and down the road rookie Chris Bell (knee), who remains on active/NFI.
