Texans' Cade Stover: Catching passes on practice field
Stover (knee) is participating in the Texans' OTAs, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Stover sustained a knee injury during Houston's playoff loss at New England in the divisional round back in January, but he's had time to move past the issue, allowing him to participate in the team's offseason workouts. After the Texans drafted tight end Marlin Klein in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft, Stover's path to a spot on the final 53-man roster for the upcoming season looks narrow.

Stover suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday's playoff loss to the Patriots. The confirmation of an intact ACL means that the tight end likely will enter the 2026 season healthy.

Texans' Cade Stover: Two grabs in win
Stover caught two of three targets for seven yards in Sunday's 23-21 win over the Raiders in Week 16.
Stover continued a support role at tight end behind starter Dalton Schultz. Since returning from a foot injury six games ago, Stover has seven catches (10 targets) for 45 yards. He's been given opportunities as a runner in short-yardage, red-zone situations the last three weeks, but that opportunity never presented itself Sunday.

Texans' Cade Stover: Contributes three catches in win
Stover caught all three of his targets for 22 yards in Sunday's 40-20 win over Arizona in Week 15.
The Texans often rolled with multiple tight ends, and Stover had a season-high 41 snaps alongside starter Dalton Shultz (53 snaps). The position group combined for 12 targets, a team high for the day and a season high. Stover also had one rushing attempt -- another short-yardage situation in the red zone -- but the play was negated by a penalty.

Texans' Cade Stover: Used again as runner
Stover was not targeted in Sunday's 20-10 win over Kansas City in Week 14.
Stover's did get a carry on a 4th-and-1 in the red zone, but the play was wiped out by an offside penalty. Houston settled for a field goal instead. It was the fourth time in the last two games that the Texans used Stover as a runner, but unless he gets used at the goal line, that usage won't provide him with any fantasy appeal.

Texans' Cade Stover: Adds new wrinkle in win
Stover caught both of his targets for 16 yards and had four carries for three yards in Sunday's 20-16 win over the Colts in Week 13.
In addition to Stover's day job as the backup tight end to Dalton Schultz, the Texans gave him a side hustle as a short-yardage specialist in the running attack. All four of his carries were on 3rd- or 4th-and-one situations, including three inside the red zone. The first two worked, but Indianapolis stopped Stover on successive tries in the fourth quarter. It was a curious decision by the coaching staff to run Stover on 4th-and-one at the Colts' 17-yard line after it didn't work on third down. At the time, Houston was leading, 20-16, and the turnover on downs left the Texans vulnerable to a loss had Indianapolis been able to drive for a touchdown. That Houston added this package for Stover and used it in the red zone slightly enhances the backup tight end's value heading into a Week 14 trip to Kansas City.

Texans' Cade Stover: Targeted twice in win
Stover was unable to bring in either of his two targets in Thursday's 23-16 win over the Bills in Week 12.
Stover played his second game since returning from a broken foot suffered in the season opener. He was on the field for 20 snaps, which represents an increase from Week 11. He's not a big piece of the offense but is a willing blocker as the No. 2 behind Dalton Schultz.

He was activated off injured reserve and played for the first time since Week 1. Injuries in the tight end room led to Stover opening the season as the clear backup to starter Dalton Schultz, but a broken foot shut him down until Sunday. Stover was activated from injured reserve Saturday and is officially ready to suit up for Sunday's contest as the No. 2 TE behind Dalton Schultz. In Stover's only regular-season game in the 2025 campaign, he logged 36 offensive snaps where he caught all four of his targets for 22 yards. The tight end's return should open up more options for Davis Mills and the Texans' offense.

Stover (foot) is expected to return to practice soon, possibly as early as this week, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports.
Stover is still on injured reserve after he suffered a broken foot in the Texans' Week 1 loss to the Rams, but his recovery has gone smoothly, and it looks like he's going to have a pretty good chance to play again this season. In his lone appearance this season, Stover made the start and played 57 percent of the offensive snaps, securing four catches for 22 scoreless yards versus the Rams.

Wilson reports Stover is recovering well from a broken foot and surgery. He's already missed the four-game minimum and can be activated at any time, but it appears the tight end will be out until some point in November at the earliest.
