  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Returning to action Monday

Amos (ankle) was activated from injured reserve by Washington on Monday.

Amos is active for Monday night's matchup with the 49ers, returning to action after missing the team's first five games of the season while on IR with an ankle injury. The 24-year-old will likely slot in as one of the team's starting cornerbacks against San Francisco.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Likely to debut Monday

Commanders general manager Adam Peters said that Amos (ankle) is likely to be activated from injured reserve and is expected to play Monday versus the 49ers, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.

After opening the season on IR, Amos was cleared to resume practicing with the Commanders in Week 5. He was a limited participant in practice throughout last week, but he's increased his activity in Week 6, turning in full practices Wednesday through Friday. Amos is officially listed as questionable for Monday's game, but his activation from IR would signal that Washington plans on having him available against the 49ers. Before his rookie season came to an early end last November when he fractured his fibula, Amos tallied 32 tackles and six pass breakups in 10 games.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Downgraded to out for Week 5

Amos (ankle) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's game against the Giants.

Amos will remain on injured reserve for at least one more week after his 21-day practice window was opened earlier this week. His next chance to suit up will be next Monday night against the 49ers.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Questionable to return from IR

Amos (ankle) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Giants.

The Commanders opened Amos' 21-day practice window ahead of Wednesday's session. The cornerback was a limited participant in all three practices as he works back from his ankle injury. There is a chance the 24-year-old could return to the active roster for the Week 5 matchup with the Giants, but it would not be surprising if the team held off on returning Amos to the active roster until at least Week 6.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Returns to practice Wednesday

The Commanders opened Amos' (ankle) 21-day practice window open ahead of Wednesday's session.

Amos was a limited participant Wednesday in what was his first practice since early August, when he sustained an ankle injury during training camp. The injury caused Amos to start the regular season on injured reserve, but the Commanders will now have 21 day to activate him from IR and move him to the 53-man roster. Depending on his practice participation over the next two days, Amos could be cleared to make his 2026 regular-season debut as soon as Sunday against the Giants.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: To miss beginning of season

Amos (ankle) was placed on injured reserve Sunday with a designation to return.

The second-year corner will miss at least the first four games of the season for the Commanders as he works his way back from an ankle injury sustained during training camp. Amos played in 10 games as a rookie, logging 32 tackles and six pass breakups over 511 snaps.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Still not ready

Amos (ankle) is getting healthier but is not ready to return to the field at this point, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.

The cornerback fractured his fibula last year, and his current ankle sprain is on the same leg, per Reed. Amos has not practiced since suffering this latest injury Aug. 10. If he can't return in time for the start of the regular season, Rasul Douglas would likely be the next man up at left cornerback.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: No return timeline yet

Amos (ankle) still has no return timeline set, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports.

Amos suffered an ankle injury last Monday and has not practiced since the issue occurred. The 2025 second-rounder has likely not progressed well in his recovery if there is still no timeline for a return. The Commanders may be preparing for Amos to miss the start of the regular season, in which case veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas will likely start opposite Mike Sainristil in the team's secondary.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Not playing Friday

Amos (ankle) will not play in Friday's preseason opener against the Dolphins, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

Amos will also not practice Wednesday due to an ankle injury that he picked up during Monday's training camp session. It's unclear whether his ankle injury is to the same leg to which he suffered a fractured fibula last November, causing him to miss the rest of the 2025 season. Either way, the Commanders are taking the cautious approach, and a return to practice next week would put Amos on track to be available for Washington's second exhibition game on Saturday, Aug. 22 against Detroit.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Exits with ankle issue

Amos (ankle) exited Monday's practice early, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

Amos was activated from the active/PUP list Friday after finally recovering from the lower-leg injury he went down with in Week 10 of last season. The cornerback's return appears to be short-lived, and the ankle issue may very well be partially due to weakness caused by the prior leg injury. It is unclear how long the second-year player will be out and if he will need to miss regular-season time.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Comes off PUP list

Amos (lower leg) passed his physical and has been removed from the Commanders' PUP list as of Friday.

Washington was taking a cautious approach with Amos as he tended to some soft tissue soreness during the offseason, but it looks like he's now ready to get back up to full speed. If he can hang on to a role similar to the one he was in last year prior to suffering a season-ending fibula fracture in Week 10, he'll be a big piece of the Commanders' secondary in 2026.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Team being cautious with injury

Commanders general manager Adam Peters told reporters Tuesday that the team has taken a cautious approach to Amos' lower leg injury, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.

"[Amos is] doing really well...Had some soft tissue soreness in the offseason so we wanted to take it slow. He should be back soon. We wanted to be overly cautious," Peters relayed Tuesday. Amos was a second-round selection of the Commanders in the 2025 NFL Draft, and the Ole Miss product started in each of the first 10 games of the regular season before fracturing his fibula against the Lions in early November. Given Peters' comments, it seems like Amos will be ready to return to practice at some point during training camp, perhaps before the Commanders' first preseason game against the Dolphins on Friday, Aug. 14.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Lands on PUP list

The Commanders placed Amos (lower leg) on the active/PUP list Saturday.

Amos is still recovering from the fractured fibula he suffered back in Week 10 of the 2025 season. While there's currently no timetable for the 24-year-old's return, he will be eligible to participate in practice once healthy but will be limited to side work until then.

  • Commanders' Trey Amos: Working toward return to practice

Amos (lower leg) is not participating in the Commanders' OTAs, Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C. reports.

Amos is present, but rather than drilling with the team, he's still rehabbing from the fractured fibula he suffered back in Week 10 of the 2025 campaign. There is still no concrete timeline for his full return to football activities, and in the meantime, veteran Antonio Hamilton could see increased work on the boundary with the first team.
