  • Matt Ryan: Let go by Colts

The Colts officially released Ryan on Wednesday, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports. Per Scott Horner of the Indianapolis Star, by cutting the 37-year-old, the Colts freed up $17 million in salary cap space. In the wake of Ryan's departure, fellow quarterbacks Nick Foles and Sam Ehlinger remain under contract with Indianapolis, with the team expected to add depth at the position this offseason.

  • Matt Ryan: On way out of Indy

The Colts plan to release Ryan in the coming days, Jeff Howe of The Athletic reports. The veteran quarterback was supplanted as the Colts' starter in his lone season with the team, so it's not a surprise that he'll be let go ahead of the upcoming campaign. According to Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star, the transaction will provide the Colts with over $17 million in salary-cap relief.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Inactive Monday

Ryan is inactive for Monday night's game against the Chargers. With Ryan officially inactive Monday, Sam Ehlinger will back up Nick Foles in Week 16. Per Stephen Holder of ESPN.com, the Colts' current plan is to start Foles for the team's final three games.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Still the starter

Coach Jeff Saturday confirmed Monday that Ryan will remain the Colts' starting quarterback ahead of Saturday's game against the Vikings, JJ Stankevitz of the team's official site reports. In the Colts' 54-19 loss to the Cowboys in Week 13, Ryan completed 21 of his 37 pass attempts for 223 yards and two TDs, while throwing a trio of picks and losing a fumble in the contest. While the veteran QB no doubt has had his share of turnovers this season, Saturday suggested that the positioning of the signal-caller's receivers and breakdowns in pass protection have been contributing factors to Ryan's ball-security issues. In any case, Ryan will look to rebound this weekend following a bye week, while going up against a Minnesota defense that is allowing a league-high average of 287.2 passing yards per game to date.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Week 11 Waiver Priority List

Jeff Saturday took over for Frank Reich as the interim head coach for the Colts, and he made the right move to put Ryan back under center in Week 10 at Las Vegas. He scored 23 Fantasy points -- nine of those came with his legs as he rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown -- but I'm not sure you want to use him in one-quarterback leagues against the Eagles. However, Ryan should be added in all Superflex and two-quarterback leagues where available since he should remain the starter for the rest of the season. He's worth at least 15-20 percent of your remaining FAB in those formats.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Back at practice

Ryan (shoulder) was spotted at practice Thursday, James Boyd of The Athletic reports. Ryan, who is working his way back from a Grade 2 right shoulder sprain is practicing for the first time since he was removed from the Colts' starting quarterback role following the team's Week 7 loss to the Titans. Regardless of the progress Ryan makes this week, Sam Ehlinger is slated to start Sunday's game against the Raiders.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Sidelined for Week 9

Ryan (shoulder) has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Patriots, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Radio reports. With Ryan sidelined, Nick Foles will back up Sam Ehlinger. Because Ehlinger has been named the starter for the rest of the season by coach Frank Reich, Ryan will be a backup at best once he's healthy.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Still not practicing

Ryan (shoulder) isn't in line to practice this week, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports. Ryan is thus trending toward being ruled out for Sunday's game against the Patriots following the Colts' final Week 9 practice Friday. With that in mind, Nick Foles would once again be in line to back up Sam Ehlinger, who has taken over as the Colts' starting quarterback.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Benched, hurting after Week 7 loss

Colts head coach Frank Reich said Monday that Ryan has been removed from the starting role and is dealing with a Grade 2 sprain of his right shoulder, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports. Second-year player Sam Ehlinger is set to step in as the Colts' new starting quarterback beginning with Sunday's game against the Commanders, and Reich indicated that Ryan -- who won't practice this week -- won't regain the No. 1 job when healthy, as Indianapolis had planned to change signal-callers even if the veteran had emerged from the Week 7 loss to the Titans without the shoulder issue. Nick Foles will serve as Ehlinger's backup Week 8 while Ryan drops to third on the depth chart while he recovers from the shoulder injury. The longtime Falcons quarterback had been a massive disappointment in his first season with the Colts, throwing for nine touchdowns against nine interceptions and fumbling 11 times (losing three) through seven games. The 37-year-old Ryan's time as a starter in the NFL may be over.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: QBs to Start

Ryan is coming off his best game of the season in Week 6 against Jacksonville with 33 Fantasy points, and he has now scored at least 22 points in two of his past three games. He scored 22 Fantasy points against the Titans in Week 4, and hopefully he can at least replicate that performance in the rematch this week. Tennessee has allowed four quarterbacks in a row to score at least 22 Fantasy points, and the Titans allow an average of 25.4 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks for the season, which is No. 3 in the NFL. Ryan has top-10 upside this week.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Week 7 Waiver Priority List

Ryan is second in the NFL in pass attempts (he has at least 37 in five of six games), and he has scored at least 22 Fantasy points in two of his past three games. He had 22 points against the Titans in Week 4 with 356 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception, and we'll see if he can perform at a high level again in the rematch. He also has a favorable upcoming schedule with Washington in Week 8 and Las Vegas in Week 10, and the Colts might need to keep relying on Ryan with their battered backfield of Jonathan Taylor (ankle), Nyheim Hines (concussion) and Deon Jackson (quad). Ryan should be added for at least 5 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Record-setting effort in win

Ryan completed 42 of 58 passes for 389 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in the Colts' 34-27 win over the Jaguars on Sunday. He also netted minus-4 yards on one rush. For nearly the entirety of the first half, Ryan and his teammates appeared to be stuck in the recurring nightmare that had been their recent experiences against the Jaguars. However, the veteran signal-caller came to life late in the second quarter and also turned in a stellar final period, helping the Colts to a much-needed comeback win. Ryan ended up setting a new team record for single-game completions while connecting with Parris Campbell, Jelani Woods and Alec Pierce for touchdowns of four, 10 yards and 32 yards, respectively, the latter coming with 17 seconds remaining to cap off the victory. Ryan also stayed away from any turnovers for the first time all season and wasn't sacked, with the two very likely correlated. Ryan will aim to continue building on the massive momentum generated by Sunday's stellar performance in a Week 7 divisional road battle against the Titans.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: QBs to Sit

Ryan has been decent as a Fantasy quarterback this season when he's had a healthy receiving corps. If you remove the Week 2 game at Jacksonville when Michael Pittman and Alec Pierce were out, Ryan is averaging 19.0 Fantasy points per game. And he just had his best outing of the season in Week 4 against Tennessee with 22 Fantasy points. But this should be a tough test for Ryan at Denver on Thursday night, especially if Jonathan Taylor (ankle) is out. The Broncos are allowing an average of just 11.5 Fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks, and Davis Mills, Jimmy Garoppolo and Derek Carr have combined for just 29 Fantasy points against Denver in the past three games.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Week 4 Waiver Priority List

Ryan got Michael Pittman and Alec Pierce back in Week 3 against the Chiefs after both were out in Week 2 due to injuries, and Ryan had his best game of the season with 18 Fantasy points. He should be able to build on that performance against the Titans in Week 4, and Tennessee has allowed all three opposing quarterbacks this year (Daniel Jones, Josh Allen and Derek Carr) to throw multiple touchdowns. Ryan is worth using as a streaming option in deeper leagues and should be added for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Sleepers (Start/Sit)

Matt Ryan only scored 17 Fantasy points against Houston in Week 1, but he did attempt 50 passes in overtime, which is the kind of volume we love. He completed 32 passes for 352 yards, one touchdown and one interception, and he also ran for 12 yards. We'll see what he does for an encore in Week 2 against the Jaguars, who just got abused by Carson Wentz in Week 1. Ryan is worth using as a low-end starter in deeper leagues.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Mixed bag in Colts debut

Ryan completed 32 of 50 passes for 352 yards with one touchdown and one interception and rushed four times for 12 yards in the Colts' 20-20 overtime tie with the Texans on Sunday. He also committed four fumbles, losing one and recovering two. Odds were long of Ryan putting up 50 passes in a game during which the Colts also saw Jonathan Taylor go off for 161 yards on 31 carries, but that's exactly what came to pass in a wild team debut for the veteran quarterback. Ryan and the rest of the offense -- with the exception of Taylor -- were a step behind over the first three quarters, but they came alive with a 17-point rally in the final period to forge the tie. Ryan unsurprisingly leaned the heaviest on Michael Pittman in terms of his pass catchers, as he connected with the surging wideout on nine occasions for 121 yards and a 15-yard game-tying touchdown pass with just under two minutes remaining. Naturally, the four fumbles Ryan was guilty of are jarring, but he also has an extensive body of work that corroborates that such numbers are an outlier. Ryan will look to put together a more consistent, turnover-conscious effort in a Week 2 road matchup against the Jaguars next Sunday.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Sleeper QBs

Ryan was terrible in his final season in Atlanta last year, but he gets a fresh start with the Colts in 2022. By all accounts, he's been fantastic, and he should start off his Indianapolis tenure with a quality game against the Texans. Houston was top 10 in Fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks last year, and Ryan will likely be given plenty of chances to make plays in his Colts debut. He's a good option in Superflex and 2QB leagues.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: One To Stash (QB Preview)

Wentz is probably my answer here as well, but Ryan gets Jacksonville in Week 2 and there's a chance Frank Reich is going to make a significant shift in offensive philosophy now that he has a quarterback he trusts. If Ryan gets 35-plus attempts against Houston, I'll be far more interested in him long-term. Speaking of long-term, Kenny Pickett and Desmond Ridder are both good long-term stashes.

  • Colts' Matt Ryan: Won't play this week

Ryan won't play in Saturday's preseason game against Detroit, Mike Chappell of Fox 59 News Indianapolis reports. After completing six of 10 passes for 58 yards in the Colts' preseason opener, Ryan may have to wait until Week 1 at Houston for his next shot to take the field. He'll likely have Michael Pittman, Parris Campbell and Alec Pierce as his top three wide receivers, with Jonathan Taylor and Nyheim Hines in the backfield and Mo Alie-Cox starting at tight end. It isn't a dominant group of pass catchers by any means, but Ryan does have one of the best backfields and one of the best O-lines in the league. It's certainly a better situation than the mess he dealt with in Atlanta last year, with the downside being that the's now a year older (37).
