  • Paul Stastny: Ends playing career

Stastny retired Tuesday after 17 NHL seasons, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports. Stastny told LeBrun that he decided back in September that his playing days were done. The 37-year-old Stastny produced 293 goals and 822 points across 1,145 regular-season contests for Colorado, St. Louis, Winnipeg, Vegas and Carolina. He also accounted for 30 goals and 73 points in 118 career playoff games.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Ends eight-game scoring slump

Stastny provided a goal in Carolina's 4-3 loss to Florida in Game 4 on Wednesday. Stastny found the back of the net midway through the first period to reduce the Panthers' lead to 2-1. The marker snapped his eight-game scoring drought. Carolina was eliminated from the playoffs with this loss, and Stastny ended the postseason with four goals and four points in 15 appearances.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Pots OT winner Friday

Stastny scored the game-winning goal in Friday's 2-1 overtime victory over the Islanders in Game 6 of the Hurricanes' first-round series. After a giveaway by the Isles in their own end, Stastny got the puck deep in the corner and fired it quickly toward the front of the net, where it caromed in off Ilya Sorokin's pad. The 37-year-old forward picked up three goals in six games during the first round, including one in each of the last two contests, but his bottom-six role will make it tough for Stastny to maintain that momentum in the second round.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Scores second of the postseason

Stastny scored a goal on his lone shot in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to the Islanders. Stastny got the Hurricanes on the board midway through the second period, deflecting a Jalen Chatfield shot to cut the deficit to 2-1. It's the second goal of the series for Stastny while centering Carolina's fourth line. The 37-year-old veteran posted nine goals and 22 points in 73 regular-season contests.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Provides opening goal

Stastny found the back of the net in Carolina's 4-3 overtime victory over the Islanders in Game 2 on Wednesday. Stastny isn't the offensive force that he once was. While he surpassed the 70-point milestone in three of his first four campaigns, the 37-year-old finished the 2022-23 regular season with nine goals and 22 points in 73 contests. He can still chip in from time to time though, as Stastny did early in the first period to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 edge. It was his 27th goal and 70th point in 105 career NHL playoff games.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Two points in limited ice time

Stastny had a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over the Canadiens on Saturday. He deflected Brent Burns' point shot past Sam Montembeault stick side at the mid-point of the second to push the Canes up 2-0. Stastny snapped a six-game point drought Saturday. The 37-year-old is in the twilight of his career -- he has just nine goals and 21 points in 68 games, and sees limited ice time (10-12 minutes). Stastny won't help fantasy players in postseason formats, but his experience will be invaluable as the Canes make a run for the Cup.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Riding pine

Stastny did not suit up for Friday's 5-2 loss to the Maple Leafs, marking the second straight game he's served as a healthy scratch. Stastny had just two points in his last 10 games prior to the benching, and he had been skating on the Canes' fourth line. He'll likely make his way back into the lineup at some point, but at 36 years old, he's clearly not the player he once was, and his fantasy value is now about as close to zero as it can get.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Nets goal in win over Arizona

Stastny found the back of the net in Carolina's 6-1 victory over Arizona on Friday. Stastny opened the scoring early in the first period. It was his eighth goal and 19th point in 59 games this season after being held off the scoresheet in his previous four contests. The 37-year-old is on pace to finish well below his 2021-22 totals of 21 goals and 45 points in 71 games.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Provides power-play goal

Stastny scored a power-play goal in Sunday's 4-1 win against Boston. Stastny's marker, which came at 12:05 of the second period, proved to be the game-winner. He has four goals and 15 points in 48 contests this season. Stastny was scoreless in his previous four contests. He also entered the game averaging just 12:45 of ice time this season. Unless his role grows, it's unlikely that Stastny will make regular offensive contributions.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Stays hot with goal Thursday

Stastny contributed a goal in a 5-3 loss to Nashville on Thursday. Stastny opened the scoring with a power-play marker at 7:41 of the first period. He has two goals and 12 points in 38 contests this season. Stastny entered the game averaging just 12:36 of ice time this season, and 37-year-old isn't likely to be a regular offensive contributor unless his role with the team grows. He's hot at the moment though, recording a goal and five points in his last six contests.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Two helpers in Tuesday's loss

Stastny picked up two assists in Tuesday's 5-3 loss to the Rangers. Both helpers came in the first period as Carolina built a 2-1 lead, but it didn't hold up. Stastny has four assists in the last five games, but that's been his most productive stretch of the season to date, and the 37-year-old has just one goal and 11 points through 37 games.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: First goal of season

Stastny scored a goal Saturday in a 3-0 win over the Islanders. The goal, which was his first of the season (26 games), stood as the winner. Stastny opened the scoring at 7:06 of the middle frame. He took a backhand pass from Andrei Svechnikov, who had scooped up a rebound, and scored from near the right post. Stastny's fantasy value is limited playing deep in the bottom six, but it's nice to see the soon-to-be 37-year-old still contributing on the ice.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Reduced to fourth-line role

Stastny skated just 10:39 and failed to register a point in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Avalanche. He has just four points in 14 games to start the season. Stastny recorded a respectable 45 points in 71 games with the Jets last season but likely won't come anywhere near that total in his first season as a Hurricane. He is currently skating just 12:16 per game on the Canes' fourth line, a drop of more than five minutes compared to last season. Stastny isn't being utilized in the same offensive role that he's been used to, and his scoring totals are showing it. At age 36, Stastny's best fantasy days are behind him.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Adds assist in shootout win

Stastny produced an assist and two PIM in Monday's 3-2 shootout win over the Capitals. Stastny set up an Andrei Svechnikov goal in the second period. This was Stastny's third assist of the year, and he's gone three scoreless outings in between each of his helpers. The 36-year-old has added just five shots on net while recording eight PIM, six hits and an even plus-minus rating through nine contests. With bottom-six time at even strength, it'll be tough for the veteran forward to pick up the pace on offense.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Registers assist

Stastny produced an assist in Saturday's 3-2 overtime loss to the Flames. Stastny was dropped to the fourth line for this game after the Hurricanes' loss in Edmonton on Thursday. He had a good moment in the first period, keeping the puck alive to set up Calvin de Haan for Carolina's second goal of the contest. The assist was Stastny's second point in five outings, and he's added just two shots on net with four hits and four PIM. At this stage of his career, he's likely little more than a bottom-six forward with some scoring upside.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Seeing middle-six usage

Stastny has collected one assist while averaging 15:26 of ice time through the first three games of the campaign. Stastny has also been locked into a spot on Carolina's second power-play unit early on this season, so his production could improve sooner rather than later. He'll try to break his two-game scoreless streak in a matchup with Edmonton on Thursday.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Linemates taking shape

Stastny could start the regular season on a line with Jordan Staal and Jesper Fast, Chip Alexander of the News & Observer reports. On paper, this assignment would put Stastny in a checking-line role which would see his fantasy value take a bit of a hit. Unless he gets promoted to a top-six role with guys like Andrei Svechnikov, Martin Necas and Teuvo Teravainen, Stastny could struggle to mark the scoresheet consistently.

  • Hurricanes' Paul Stastny: Inks one-year deal

Stastny signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with Carolina on Tuesday. Stastny is coming off his first 20-plus goal campaign since 2013-14, when he was with the Avalanche. With Max Pacioretty (Achilles) suffering a significant offseason injury, the 36-year-old Stastny could be in the mix for a top-six role, where he should be capable of putting together another 20-goal season. Additionally, Stastny figures to be in line for a spot with the man advantage, which will only serve to further his fantasy upside.

  • Jets' Paul Stastny: Records 21 goals

Stastny scored 21 goals on 141 shots this season, his highest goal total since 2013-14 when he was with Colorado. Stastny was forced to frequently move between wing and center this season but still managed to rack up 45 points in 71 games. After signing a one-year deal with Winnipeg last offseason, Stastny will once again find himself looking for a new contract heading into the summer.

  • Jets' Paul Stastny: Bags apple Sunday

Stastny notched an assist in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Kraken. Stastny earned assists in three of the last four games of the season. The 36-year-old veteran put up solid numbers in a top-six role for much of the campaign, earning 21 goals, 45 points, 141 shots on net and a plus-14 rating in 71 appearances. Durability has often been a question for the forward, who is set to hit free agency this summer if the Jets don't sign him to a new deal.
