  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Extends streak to three games

Staal recorded a goal and an assist in Monday's 5-2 win over the Golden Knights. Staal struggled to make an impact in the first few weeks of the season, but he's been playing better of late and has cracked the scoresheet in three games in a row. He's up to one goal and three assists in that span, but his advanced age and role as a bottom-six forward suggest Staal isn't worthy of much fantasy consideration outside of deeper formats.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Helpers in back-to-back games

Staal notched an assist and two PIM in Saturday's 6-4 loss to the Avalanche. Staal has an assist in back-to-back contests after enduring a 10-game slump. The 36-year-old center continues to play in more of a defensive role on the third line, but he's been swept up in strong stretches from linemates Jordan Martinook and Seth Jarvis. Staal has three points, 12 shots on net, six PIM, 18 hits and a plus-4 rating over 13 outings this season.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Provides assist in win

Staal logged an assist and two PIM in Thursday's 5-1 win over the Penguins. The helper was Staal's first point since he scored a goal Opening Night versus the Lightning. The 36-year-old center remains an unsung hero of the Hurricanes' system -- he's a consistent defensive center, though that usually comes at the expense of scoring chances. He has two points, 11 shots on net, 18 hits, five blocked shots, four PIM and a plus-4 rating over 12 appearances in his usual third-line role.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Scores in loss to Tampa Bay

Staal scored a goal in Friday's 4-1 loss to Tampa Bay. Staal opened the scoring for the Hurricanes late in the first period with a snap shot that went straight past Andrei Vasilevskiy, but Carolina gave up four unanswered goals in the final two periods to take the loss. Staal's production has been trending in the wrong direction over the last four years, and while he should remain a productive threat based on his middle-six role, don't expect him to deliver goals on a regular basis. He found the back of the net just 10 times in 80 games during the 2023-24 regular season.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Helps avoid elimination

Staal netted the game-tying goal in Monday's 4-1 win over the Rangers in Game 5. Staal scored his first goal of the postseason in Monday's win -- he drove toward the net and beat New York's Igor Shesterkin on the backhand early in the third period. Staal also registered three shots, three hits, three blocks and a plus-1 rating in 14:56 of ice time. So far this postseason, the 35-year-old is up to one goal and one assist with a plus-4 rating in 10 total contests.

Staal (rest) returned to practice Thursday, according to Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site. Staal sat out Tuesday's finale versus Columbus as coach Rod Brind'Amour rested eight veteran players. • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Not suiting up Tuesday

Staal (rest) won't be in the lineup Tuesday against Columbus, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Several key members of the Hurricanes, including Staal, are being rested in the team's regular-season finale ahead of the start of the playoffs. The 35-year-old Staal registered 10 goals, 30 points, 123 shots on net and 142 hits in 80 outings this campaign.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Pots 10th goal

Staal scored a goal on five shots in Sunday's 4-2 win over the Blackhawks. Staal missed Friday's game with an undisclosed issue, but it's like a minor thing that the Hurricanes decided to give him rest for ahead of the playoffs. The center responded with his 10th goal of the campaign in his return. He's picked up four points over his last nine games, bringing Staal to 30 points, 123 shots on net, 142 hits and a minus-14 rating through 80 contests overall in a third-line role.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Suiting up Sunday

Staal (undisclosed) will play Sunday against the Blackhawks, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Staal sat out Friday's 5-2 win over the Blues because of a minor injury. He has picked up nine goals, 29 points, 118 shots on net and 141 hits in 79 games this season.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Unavailable Friday

Staal (undisclosed) won't play Friday against the Blues, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Staal is reportedly "nicked up," so he likely isn't dealing with a serious injury. The veteran center has nine goals and 29 points in 79 games this season. Staal could return as early as Sunday in Chicago.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Scores on the PK Saturday

Staal scored a shorthanded goal in Saturday's 3-0 win over the Canadiens. With just 28 points in 75 games (9G, 19A), Staal needs two more points to reach the 30-point mark for the fourth consecutive season. His supporting cast remains solid, as he's currently skating alongside Andrei Svechnikov and Teuvo Teravainen. Staal's fantasy relevance isn't what it used to be from a scoring perspective, but he's a reliable option in a few peripheral stat categories, such as hits. The veteran center is tied for the team hits lead with 135.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Two points in win

Staal tallied a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 3-2 victory over Minnesota. After the Wild scored halfway through the first period, Staal answered with a backhand goal of his own that beat Filip Gustavsson. Staal added an assist on the game-tying goal in the second period, provided one shot on net, three hits and a plus-1 rating in 15:15 of ice time. He had not scored in any of the three prior games and only has 15 points on the season. Unless you're in a very deep league or desperately need faceoff wins, it's best to leave Jordan Staal on the waiver wire and target players with a higher offensive ceiling.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: On four-game point streak

Staal notched an assist and three shots on goal in Monday's 6-3 win over the Blackhawks. Staal is on a four-game point streak, picking up a goal and four assists in that span. He helped out on Jordan Martinook's empty-net tally to keep the run going Monday. Staal is up to 21 points, 90 shots on net, 97 hits, 30 PIM and a minus-9 rating over 55 outings. He remains a fixture on the Hurricanes' third line, and he'll have some fantasy appeal while his offense is warm.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Gathers helper Saturday

Staal logged a shorthanded assist, two shots on goal and three hits in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Golden Knights. Staal set up Seth Jarvis' marker early in the third period, which ended up being the game-winner. With five points over six games since the All-Star break, Staal has gotten his offense humming while maintaining his solid defensive play from the third line. He's at 20 points, 87 shots on net, 103 hits and a minus-9 rating through 54 appearances.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Generates early assist

Staal registered an assist and went plus-2 in Friday's 5-1 win over the Coyotes. Staal has four points over his last four games, which is one of his best stretches of the campaign. He got on the scoresheet quickly with the secondary helper on Jordan Martinook's opening tally 16 seconds into the game Friday. Staal is at 19 points, 85 shots on net, 94 hits, 26 blocked shots, 30 PIM and a minus-10 rating through 53 outings. He's still got time to secure his fourth straight 30-point campaign from his usual third-line role.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Goal, assist in loss

Staal tallied a goal and an assist in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Stars. Staal had a hand in both of Carolina's goals Tuesday, scoring 13 seconds into the second period to tie the game 1-1 before adding an assist on Jesper Fast's tally later in the frame. It's Staal's first multi-point game since Nov. 30, though he now has three points in his last three contests. The 35-year-old center is up to seven goals and 18 points through 52 games this season.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Notches helper Thursday

Staal snagged an assist versus Colorado on Thursday. Staal has managed just one goal in his last 18 contests while chipping in four assists. During his goal slump, the center has recorded just 27 shots, which won't improve his chances of finding the back of the net. While Staal could miss the 15-goal threshold for the first time since 2019-20, he should be able to top the 30-point mark for the fourth straight season.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Pots game-winner Thursday

Staal scored the game-winning goal on his only shot on net in Thursday's 2-1 victory over the Red Wings. The 35-year-old has just four goals in 29 games on the season, but three of them have come in the last eight contests. Staal's days of being an enticing fantasy option are long behind him, but he's still handling a regular shift in a bottom-six role for the Hurricanes. Staal's effectiveness even with that assignment is in question, as his minus-10 rating would be his worst mark in over a decade if it doesn't improve, and he's on pace to finish with fewer than 100 hits over a full season for the first time since he was a fresh-faced 19-year-old in 2007-08.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Breaks up shutout bid

Staal scored a goal on three shots and added two hits in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Oilers. Staal scored in the third period, ending Stuart Skinner's shutout bid in the lopsided game. With three points over his last four games, Staal has been solid lately. The third-line center isn't a big contributor on offense at 35 years old -- he's earned three goals, six assists and 43 shots on net through 25 contests this season. He's added 28 hits, 18 PIM and a minus-7 rating while drawing plenty of tough defensive assignments.

  • Hurricanes' Jordan Staal: Gets two points Thursday

Staal recorded a goal and an assist in Carolina's 5-4 overtime loss to the Islanders on Thursday. Staal's marker came early in the second period to put the Hurricanes up 2-1. He then got the primary helper on Sebastian Aho's goal in the dying seconds of the third frame to force overtime. This was Staal's third multi-point contest of the campaign, but despite that, he has just eight points (two goals) in 22 outings. The 35-year-old didn't accomplish much offensively from Oct. 21-Nov. 28, registering just two assists over 16 contests, and that likely won't be the only substantial cold stretch he has this campaign.
