Avalanche's Carl Soderberg: Healthy scratch in Game 1
Soderberg did not suit up for Game 1 of Colorado's playoff series against Vegas on Sunday.
As recently as Saturday, Soderberg practiced on the fourth line, but he took a seat in favor of Alex Newhook and Sampo Ranta. Soderberg had filled in for Newhook for the final two games of the first-round sweep of the Blues and had an assist, a hit, a shot on goal and two PIM. Avalanche's Carl Soderberg: Joins lineup, earns assist
Soderberg recorded an assist in Friday's 5-1 win over the Blues in Game 3.
Soderberg made his first appearance since May 10 to fill the gap in the lineup caused by Nazem Kadri's eight-game suspension. The 35-year-old Soderberg helped out on a Brandon Saad goal in the third period. While he's not likely to see many minutes, Soderberg provides steady defense and a veteran presence in a fourth-line role. He'll have to fend off Kiefer Sherwood and Jayson Megna for playing time.

Avalanche's Carl Soderberg: Set to debut for new club
Soderberg (not injury related) is expected to be in the lineup for Wednesday's game against St. Louis, Conor McGahey of Altitude TV reports.
Soderberg was acquired at the trade deadline Monday via Chicago, as he'll make his first appearance with his new team. The veteran spent four seasons with Colorado from 2015-2018, racking up 57 goals and 151 points over that span. This season, he accumulated seven goals and 15 points over 34 games with the Blackhawks. Although Soderberg's role is unclear, he'll replace Joonas Donskoi (illness) in the lineup Wednesday.

Avalanche's Carl Soderberg: Role uncertain
Colorado head coach Jared Bednar was unclear on how Soderberg (not injury related) will be deployed going forward, Adrian Dater of Colorado Hockey Now reports. The Avalanche acquired him from the Blackhawks on Monday.
Bednar said observers will "have to wait and see" where Soderberg plays, adding that how other guys are performing will be a factor. The most likely landing spot for the 35-year-old is as the third-line center, taking over for Tyson Jost, who could move to wing on the third or fourth line.

Avalanche's Carl Soderberg: Returning to Mile High City
Soderberg was acquired by the Avalanche from the Blackhawks in a swap for Josh Dickinson and Ryder Rolston on Monday.
Soderberg will be back with the Avs after having been traded away by the club in June of 2019. In 34 outings with the Hawks this year, the 35-year-old center garnered seven goals and eight helpers, including five power-play points. A top-six role with Colorado is likely off the table but he should still offer decent production as a third-line center. Soderberg won't be ready to play against the Coyotes on Monday but could be ready in time to play versus St. Louis on Wednesday.

Blackhawks' Carl Soderberg: Notches first point in five games
Soderberg scored a power-play goal on his only shot in a 3-2 win over Florida on Tuesday. He also provided two hits and two PIM.
Soderberg gave Chicago a 3-0 lead early in the second period, redirecting a Patrick Kane feed past Chris Driedger. The goal snapped a short five-game point skid for Soderberg and gave the first-year Blackhawk 13 points in 28 games. Four of his six goals this season have come with the man advantage.

Blackhawks' Carl Soderberg: Tips in power-play goal
Soderberg scored a power-play goal on two shots, doled out three hits and blocked three shots in Thursday's 4-2 win over the Stars.
Soderberg put the Blackhawks ahead 2-0 by deflecting an Adam Boqvist shot past Anton Khudobin early in the second period. The 35-year-old Soderberg has five goals, 12 points, 26 shots on net, 35 hits, 20 blocks and a minus-2 rating in 23 contests. His decent scoring rate and physical edge could help fantasy managers in deeper formats, especially if he sticks on the first power-play unit.

Blackhawks' Carl Soderberg: On goal-scoring binge
Soderberg scored an empty-net goal on two shots in a 2-0 win over Columbus on Thursday.
Soderberg clinched the Chicago victory when he found the empty cage with 50 seconds left in the third period. It was the third straight game with a goal for the 35-year-old, the longest such streak of Soderberg's nine-year NHL career. Soderberg primarily fills a third-line center role, but he does see power-play time and has produced four goals and four assists in his first 16 games as a Blackhawk.

Blackhawks' Carl Soderberg: Surprises with three points
Soderberg scored a power-play goal and added two even-strength assists in Tuesday's 6-5 shootout win over the Blue Jackets.
The veteran center had a poor start to his Chicago tenure, managing only one assist in his first 10 games, but Soderberg has found a groove with three goals and six points in his last five. As long as he keeps working on the top power-play unit with the likes of Patrick Kane, Soderberg should retain some fantasy intrigue.

Blackhawks' Carl Soderberg: First goal forces OT
Soderberg scored a goal on his only shot and dished out a pair of hits Saturday in a 3-2 overtime win over Columbus. He also went 12-for-15 (80.0 percent) in the faceoff circle.
The first-year Blackhawk tied the game with 3:45 left in regulation, taking advantage of a Columbus turnover and wiring a shot from the slot. Soderberg, a 17-goal scorer last year with Arizona, had been held without a tally in his first 10 games with his new club. While the 35-year-old is a capable offensive player, his production will likely continue to be limited by his third-line role in Chicago.

Blackhawks' Carl Soderberg: Picks up assist Thursday
Soderberg managed an assist and three hits in Thursday's 6-4 win over the Hurricanes.
Soderberg had the lone helper on Patrick Kane's tally at 2:41 of the third period. The assist was Soderberg's first point in seven appearances for the Blackhawks. He's typically seen bottom-six usage so far -- the 35-year-old Swede has 12 hits and four PIM with a plus-2 rating. He's received minimal power-play opportunities, so Soderberg doesn't have much fantasy value in standard formats.

Blackhawks' Carl Soderberg: Added to active roster
The Blackhawks added Soderberg (not injury related) to their active roster Thursday, Scott Powers of The Athletic reports.
Soderberg missed the entirety of training camp and Chicago's first four games of the campaign while sorting out visa issues and then serving his mandatory seven-day quarantine, but he should be able to begin practicing with his new teammates Thursday. It's safe to assume he'll need to go through a few pratices before being inserted into the lineup, so he likely won't make his Blackhawks debut until Sunday against the Red Wings at the earliest.

Blackhawks' Carl Soderberg: Dealing with visa issues
Soderberg (not injury related) has yet to arrive for training camp due to immigration issues, Phil Thompson of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The Blackhawks have to be hoping Soderberg will arrive sooner rather than later, as he's poised to take on a big role with Kirby Dach (wrist) and Jonathan Toews (illness) both facing extended absences. The 35-year-old pivot racked up 17 goals and 35 points in 70 games with the Coyotes last campaign.

Soderberg was a pretty productive player for the Coyotes last season, picking up 17 goals and 35 points, 11 of which came on the power play, in 70 games. The 35-year-old forward will likely skate in a middle-six role while seeing time on the Blackhawks' second power-play unit in 2020-21.
