Braden Holtby: Pondering future
Holtby (lower body) is not expected to participate in Wednesday's free-agent frenzy, and it's possible he could retire, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports.
Holtby's recovery from a lower-body injury suffered in March has apparently taken a bad turn, which leaves the future of his playing career in doubt. He had 10-10-1 record with a 2.78 GAA and a .913 save percentage in 24 games with the Stars, but was overtaken by Jake Oettinger midseason. With Holtby facing free agency and an uncertain future, fantasy managers can likely leave him off their radar in the fall.

Stars' Braden Holtby: Doing off-ice workouts
Holtby (lower body) is doing off-ice workouts, but he has not resumed skating, Bruce LeVine of Dallas Stars Radio reports.
Holtby has been out of action since March 12, and it doesn't sound like his return is all that close. The 32-year-old isn't expected to be ready before the end of the regular season, so Jake Oettinger and Scott Wedgewood will be tasked with getting the Stars over the bump and into the playoffs. Holtby remains on long-term injured reserve.

Stars' Braden Holtby: Lands on LTIR
Holbty (lower body) was placed on long-term injured reserve Monday, Brien Rea of Bally Sports Southwest reports.
Dallas' acquisition of Scott Wedgewood makes more sense now that Holtby is considered week-to-week and could be out for the foreseeable future. The veteran netminder hasn't played since March 4 when he stopped 39 of 42 shots against the Jets. Jake Oettinger will see most of the work while Holtby is out.

Stars' Braden Holtby: Remains day-to-day
Holtby (lower body) is still considered day-to-day ahead of Thursday's game versus Montreal, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.
Holtby has missed the last four games with a lower-body issue, and at this point there's no telling when he might be ready to get back between the pipes. Jake Oettinger will likely continue to operate as the Stars' workhorse in goal until Holtby is cleared to return.

Stars' Braden Holtby: Remains out Tuesday
Holtby (lower body) took part in morning skate but will not dress for Tuesday's game in Toronto, Matthew DeFranks of The Dallas Morning News reports.
While Holtby remains out, Jake Oettinger will continue to hold down the No. 1 spot in the Dallas crease and be backed up by Adam Scheel. Look for further info on Holtby's status once he's able to return to game action -- either as a starter or backup to Oettinger.

Stars' Braden Holtby: No rust after gap between starts
Holtby stopped 39 of 42 shots in Friday's 4-3 overtime win over the Jets.
Holtby hadn't started since Feb. 13, a span of nearly three weeks as Jake Oettinger played in the last seven games. The 32-year-old Holtby was tested often but met the challenge, and he got the win as Jason Robertson completed a hat trick in overtime. Holtby improved to 10-10-1 with a 2.78 GAA and a .913 save percentage in 24 outings. The veteran netminder may not see as many starts as he's used to, but he can still be solid in a backup role for fantasy managers in deeper formats or those that already roster Oettinger. The Stars' road trip continues Sunday in Minnesota.

Stars' Braden Holtby: No help in loss
Holtby allowed three goals on 29 shots in Sunday's 4-0 loss to the Avalanche.
Holtby was always going to have a tough time against the Western Conference's best offense, but the lack of support from his Stars teammates didn't help the cause. Holtby hadn't played in the last four games due a lower-body injury that saw him eased back into action. He's now 9-10-1 with a 2.78 GAA and a .912 save percentage in 23 appearances. The Stars face the Avalanche again Tuesday, and while it's likely Jake Oettinger will get a turn in goal for that contest, head coach Rick Bowness's goalie deployments remain hard to predict.

Stars' Braden Holtby: Backing up Wednesday
Holtby (lower body) will back up Jake Oettinger against the Predators on Wednesday, Mike Heika of the Stars' official site reports.
It's safe to assume the veteran netminder is over his lower-body injury, which held him out of one game. With no back-to-backs on Dallas' docket until Jan. 23 and 24, it's hard to predict how the workload will shake out for Oettinger and Holtby -- who normally split time pretty evenly -- but the latter should be back between the pipes soon.

Stars' Braden Holtby: Sidelined with lower-body issue
Holtby (lower body) won't be available for Tuesday's game versus the Flames, Bruce LeVine of Dallas Stars Radio reports.
Holtby will have to wait for Dallas' matchup with Nashville on Feb. 9 for his next potential opportunity to start between the pipes. With Holtby on the shelf, Jake Oettinger is scheduled to get the start in goal against Calgary.

Stars' Braden Holtby: Torched for five goals Friday
Holtby allowed five goals on 27 shots in Friday's 5-0 loss to the Capitals.
Playing against the first team he suited up for at the NHL level for the first time, Holtby struggled Friday. He was replaced by Jake Oettinger for the third period, but the damage had already been done. Holtby saw a three-game winning streak snapped as he dropped to 9-9-1 with a 2.76 GAA and a .913 save percentage through 22 appearances. Stars' Braden Holtby: Cruises to third straight win
Holtby turned aside 36 shots in Tuesday's 5-1 win over the Devils.
The Stars grabbed a 3-0 lead before the first intermission, and only a Jesper Bratt power-play goal midway through the second period prevented Holtby from picking up his first shutout in nearly three years. The veteran netminder has won three straight starts, and his 2.60 GAA and .917 save percentage on the season are a big improvement on his last couple campaigns.

Stars' Braden Holtby: Hangs on for win
Holtby made 24 saves on 28 shots in a 5-4 win over the Red Wings on Friday.
Holtby and Alex Nedeljkovic really just kept trading leads in this one, with Holtby hanging on to net the win. The 32-year-old Holtby has won his last two starts since coming on in relief of Jake Oettinger on Jan. 18 against the Canadiens, though he has allowed four goals in each. Though the veteran Holtby has been shaky throughout this season, Oettinger has done little to solidify the situation, so it may be Holtby's job to lose at this point.

Stars' Braden Holtby: Beats Buffalo despite poor play
Holtby stopped just 20 of 24 shots but came away with a 5-4 win over the Sabres on Thursday.
The Stars came one shot from doubling Buffalo's total, but Holtby struggled to fend off the few chances he faced and Dallas trailed for most of the contest. A late offensive surge bailed Holtby out and turned a 4-3 deficit into a 5-4 win over the final eight minutes. Jake Oettinger was pulled from each of his last two starts, opening the door for Holtby to take back a larger share of playing time, but this performance did little to earn Holtby more playing time moving forward.
