He wired a shot from the point that beat Jeremy Swayman. It was Pittsburgh's first shot of the game. Karlsson is on a three-game, four-point scoring streak that includes three assists and 10 shots. He's on a 55-point pace, which would give him four straight seasons with at least 53 points and 10 of his 17 NHL campaigns. Karlsson has 909 points (1,139 games). At his current pace, he may hit the 1,000-point mark in 2027-28. Karlson is currently 13th all-time in scoring from the blue line, and with decent health, he will pass Bobby Orr, who has 915 points, into 12th later this season.

The helper was Karlsson's 700th career assist. The 35-year-old defenseman reached the 900-point mark earlier in January, putting him within 100 points of becoming the ninth defenseman in NHL history to record 1,000 regular-season points. The assist was Karlsson's first point in four contests since he returned from a lower-body injury. Karlsson (lower body) was activated off injured reserve ahead of Thursday's game in Edmonton.
Ryan Graves (lower body) was placed on injured reserve in a corresponding move. It was reported Jan. 13 that the 35-year-old Karlsson would be out of action for at least two weeks, but the veteran blueliner seemingly made strides in his recovery and is poised to return to the lineup Thursday in Edmonton. If Kris Letang (upper body) isn't able to suit up, Karlsson may have a big workload in store if he's 100 percent healthy.

Karlsson (lower body) will not be in action versus Calgary on Wednesday but did practice in a regular jersey, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports.
Karlsson will be out of action for his fifth straight contest due to his lower-body injury. Still, it seems the blueliner is making progress and could be back sooner rather than later. In order to bolster the team's defensive options, Ryan Graves was called up from the minors in a corresponding move. Karlsson tallied the opening goal for Pittsburgh just under seven minutes into the first period before picking up a secondary helper on Evgeni Malkin's power-play score. With the pair of points, Karlsson now has four goals, 29 assists, 92 shots on net and 40 blocks through 42 games this season. During the Penguins' six-game win streak, the 35-year-old blueliner has been a steady contributor to the offense with seven points, which include two multi-assist outings. The Pens' top defenseman ranks inside the top 10 in points among blueliners across the NHL and is tied for sixth in assists. While he likely won't reach the 100-point threshold again, Karlsson should continue to quarterback the team's top power-play unit, which should give him a solid chance at posting his best offensive season with Pittsburgh if he can surpass the 56 points he had during the 2023-24 season.

The 35-year-old blueliner helped break open a 1-1 tie in the second period by having a hand in tallies by Sidney Crosby and Bryan Rust. Karlsson cooled off considerably in November, and since his last multi-point performance Oct. 27, he'd managed just one goal -- his only tally of the season -- and six points in the 14 games prior to Monday's outburst.
