  • Flames' Olli Maatta: Finding role with Flames

Maatta recorded an assist and placed two shots on net in Saturday's 3-2 loss to the Islanders. Maatta picked up the primary helper on Calgary's opening goal of the contest near the start of the third period. He has found his stride offensively with the Flames, posting four assists in five games since the team acquired him from the Mammoth as part of the MacKenzie Weegar trade. Overall, Maatta now has five assists, 17 shots on net and 26 blocked shots across 27 appearances this season. Since the move to the Flames, he's averaged just under 23 minutes of ice time per game, which is nearly nine minutes higher than his average for the season. If his run of success continues, he should continue to serve in Calgary's top defensive pairing and would hold solid fantasy value in deep leagues.

  • Flames' Olli Maatta: Nabs assist in Calgary debut

Maatta notched an assist and blocked five shots in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Hurricanes. Maatta started the game on the third pairing but ended up with 23:54 of ice time after Zach Whitecloud's (upper body) exit. The 31-year-old Maatta should get a better chance to play regularly for the Flames after being a regular scratch for the Mammoth. He's produced just two helpers with 11 shots on net, 22 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating over 23 outings this season.

  • Flames' Olli Maatta: Joining Calgary in Weegar trade

Maatta, Jonathan Castagna and three 2026 second-round picks were traded to the Flames from the Mammoth on Wednesday in exchange for MacKenzie Weegar, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports. Maatta has mostly been a healthy scratch for the Mammoth this season, logging just one assist in 22 games. He has two more years on his contract at a $3.5 million cap hit, so he'll likely be part of the Flames' blue line as a depth option unless they opt to flip him. Maatta's fantasy value may take a slight hit, given the low-scoring nature of his new team, and the fact that he's still not guaranteed to play regularly.

  • Mammoth's Olli Maatta: Stuck in press box

Maatta was scratched for the 16th consecutive game in Saturday's 5-2 win over the Predators. Maatta returned from an upper-body injury Dec. 12 versus the Kraken and played in three straight games. Since then, he's been scratched in favor of Nick DeSimone. As long as the Mammoth's defense stays healthy, it will be tough for Maatta to carve out a full-time role. Even an injury may not open a door if the team opts to bring up Dmitri Simashev or Maveric Lamoureux for a look with the big club. Maatta has just one assist with nine shots on net and 16 blocked shots over 19 outings this season.

  • Mammoth's Olli Maatta: Suiting up against Kraken

Maatta (upper body) will return to action versus Seattle on Friday, Cole Bagley of KSL Sports reports. Maatta has played in just one of the Mammoth's last 17 contests, registering a mere 12:06 of ice time in that clash with the Sharks. Overall, the veteran blueliner has generated a lone point in his 16 outings this year, so his return to the lineup is unlikely to impact the majority of fantasy managers.

  • Mammoth's Olli Maatta: Lands on IR

Maatta (upper body) was placed on injured reserve Thursday. Maatta wasn't an option for Wednesday's 4-3 loss to Montreal due to an injury. He has played in only one of Utah's last nine games, but it is unclear how much of that stretch was due to being a healthy scratch. In any event, he will likely miss additional time after being moved to injured reserve. Maatta has one assist, seven shots on goal and 12 blocked shots across 16 appearances this season.

  • Mammoth's Olli Maatta: Won't play Wednesday

Maatta (undisclosed) will miss Wednesday's clash against Montreal, per Cole Bagley of KSL Sports. Although Maatta will miss at least one game, his absence was described as maintenance because he's a little banged up. That might indicate that Maatta won't be out for long. That said, the Finnish defenseman isn't consistently in the lineup even when he's available -- Maatta was a healthy scratch in Utah's past three games.

  • Mammoth's Olli Maatta: Collects first assist

Maatta notched an assist in Thursday's 7-4 win over the Blues. Maatta helped out on the second of Logan Cooley's three first-period goals. The helper was Maatta's first point in eight appearances this season. He started as a seventh defenseman early in the campaign, but he's moved into a more typical role on the third pairing since Sean Durzi (shoulder) exited the lineup. Maatta has added one shot on net, six blocked shots and an even plus-minus rating while averaging 10:43 of ice time. When the Mammoth are at full health, he's unlikely to be in the lineup.

  • Mammoth's Olli Maatta: Available to return

Maatta (undisclosed) was a full participant in Monday's practice, according to Brogan Houston of Deseret News Sports. While Maatta won't be in the lineup for Tuesday's preseason game against the Kings, he will be an option to play before the beginning of the 2025-26 campaign. He accounted for two goals, 16 assists, 70 shots on net, 117 blocked shots and 22 hits across 70 regular-season games in 2024-25.

  • Mammoth's Olli Maatta: Considered day-to-day

Maatta (undisclosed) didn't participate in Saturday's practice and is day-to-day, Catherine Bogart of Utah's official site reports. Maatta is not expected to be out for long, but he probably won't be rushed back for preseason action. He compiled two goals, 16 assists, 70 shots on net, 117 blocked shots and 22 hits across 70 regular-season games in 2024-25.

  • Hockey Club's Olli Maatta: Snags helper in win

Maatta posted an assist in Saturday's 5-3 win over the Stars. Maatta set up a Logan Cooley tally in the second period, the only one of Utah's five goals that came at even strength. This was Maatta's second helper in the last four contests. The 30-year-old blueliner is up to 17 points over 75 outings between Utah and Detroit in 2024-25, one off the point total he had in 72 games with the Red Wings a year ago. He's added 71 shots on net, 123 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating this season.

  • Hockey Club's Olli Maatta: First point since return

Maatta notched an assist, two blocked shots and two PIM in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Jets. This was Maatta's second game back after missing two due to a lower-body injury. The 30-year-old blueliner ended a 10-game point drought with the secondary assist on Nick Bjugstad's empty-netter. Maatta is up to 16 points, 66 shots on net, 121 blocked shots and a plus-5 rating over 72 appearances between Utah and Detroit, and he's been a valuable bottom-four blueliner in his time with Utah.

  • Hockey Club's Olli Maatta: Ready to play Thursday

Maatta (lower body) will be in the lineup against the Kings on Thursday, Belle Fraser of The Salt Lake Tribune reports. Maatta is currently mired in a 19-game goal drought in addition to a nine-game pointless streak going back to March 10 versus Toronto. Despite the recent slump, the 30-year-old defenseman could still reach the 20-point threshold after missing that mark last year. With Maatta back in action, Nick DeSimone figures to be relegated to the press box as a healthy scratch.

  • Hockey Club's Olli Maatta: Not available Tuesday

Maatta (lower body) will not play Tuesday, Brogan Houston of Deseret News reports. Maatta was labeled a game-time decision by head coach Andre Tourigny earlier in the day. This will be Maatta's second straight absence, but it doesn't appear to be an overly serious injury he's dealing with. Nick DeSimone continues to fill in on the third pairing in place of Maatta, who will try to be ready for Thursday's game against the Kings.

  • Hockey Club's Olli Maatta: Game-time call Tuesday

Maatta (lower body) will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's home meeting with the Flames, according to Belle Fraser of The Salt Lake Tribune. Nick DeSimone will remain in the lineup if Maatta is unavailable against Calgary. Maatta has accounted for two goals, 15 points, 14 PIM, 61 shots on goal, 112 blocked shots and a plus-4 rating over 63 appearances this season.

Maatta (lower body) will be a game-time decision against Chicago on Sunday, according to Utah radio broadcaster Mike Folta. Maatta sustained an injury in Friday's 2-1 overtime loss to Florida. He has generated two goals, 15 points, 61 shots on net and 112 blocked shots in 63 appearances this season. If Maatta can't play versus the Blackhawks, Nick DeSimone could draw back into Sunday's lineup after being a healthy scratch for the last 17 games.

  • Hockey Club's Olli Maatta: Sustains lower-body injury

Maatta (lower body) won't return to Friday's game versus the Panthers. Maatta was injured in the second period and ruled out during the second intermission. It's unclear at this time if he'll miss more time beyond the end of Friday's game. If he can't suit up Sunday in Chicago, Nick DeSimone will likely take his place in the lineup.

  • Hockey Club's Olli Maatta: Agrees to three-year extension

Maatta signed a three-year, $10.5 million contract extension with Utah on Monday. Maatta has two goals, 14 points, 55 shots on net, 108 blocked shots and 17 hits in 58 games between Utah and Detroit this season. The 30-year-old defender chose to stay with Utah through the 2027-28 campaign rather than test the market as an unrestricted free agent in the summer.

  • Hockey Club's Olli Maatta: Manages assist Tuesday

Maatta provided an assist in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Blackhawks. Maatta helped out on Lawson Crouse's game-winning goal in the third period. The helper was Maatta's second point in the last 10 games. The 30-year-old is now in a third-pairing role after filling in as a top-four option for much of the season when Utah had more injuries on its blue line. Maatta is at 13 points, 52 shots on net, 108 blocked shots and a plus-7 rating through 56 appearances between Utah and Detroit in 2024-25.
