    Morrissey (lower body) is slated to be in action versus the Kings on Friday, Mitchell Clinton of the Jets' official site reports. Morrissey looks like he won't miss any game action after being forced to exit Tuesday's matchup with the Predators early. The 29-year-old blueliner has been rolling offensively of late with 13 points in his last 14 appearances, including six power-play assists. At his current pace, the Calgary native could be capable of topping his career-best mark of 76 points in 78 regular-season games set back in 2022-23.

  • Jets' Josh Morrissey: Day-to-day with LBI

    Morrissey is considered day-to-day after suffering a lower-body injury in Tuesday's game against the Predators, Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press reports. Morrissey was initially hurt in the first period and took just one short shift in the second before exiting the game for good. The 29-year-old defenseman scored a first-period goal Tuesday, giving him five goals and 38 points through 42 contests this season. The Jets have a home back-to-back up next with games Friday versus the Kings and Saturday versus the Avalanche. Morrissey will be evaluated further in the coming days, but if he is forced to miss time, the Jets will need to make a roster move to have a full complement of blueliners.

    Morrissey scored a goal on three shots, blocked two shots and added two PIM in Saturday's 4-2 loss to the Red Wings. Morrissey ended a nine-game goal drought with his second-period tally. He wasn't slumping during that stretch, racking up eight assists and a plus-6 rating as he continues to lead the way on the Jets' blue line.     Morrissey provided a pair of assists and blocked three shots in Thursday's 4-3 overtime loss to the Ducks. Morrissey helped out on goals by Adam Lowry and Alex Iafallo in this contest. Prior to Thursday, Morrissey had gone two games without a point -- it's just the fifth time this year he's had a multi-game drought. He hasn't scored over his last nine outings, but he has eight helpers, including four on the power play, in that span. Overall, the 29-year-old blueliner is at three goals, 33 assists, 80 shots on net, 63 blocked shots, 27 hits, 20 PIM and a plus-10 rating through 40 appearances. He's on pace to top the 70-point mark for the second time in three years after coming up one point short in 2023-24.

Morrissey isn't a 100-point defender as his pace would project. But this could still be a career season -- his previous best is 76 points, including 16 goals, which he set in 2022-23. Morrissey set up goals by Rasmus Kupari and Kyle Connor in the second period, with the latter's tally coming on the power play. While Morrissey isn't among the elite tier of defensemen in the NHL, he's not far behind them after producing point totals of 76 and 69 in his last two seasons. He's also blocked 100-plus shots in six of the last eight years. The 29-year-old should continue to be an elite source of offense, power-play production and blocks while playing heavy minutes for the Jets in 2024-25.
