Sharks' Laurent Brossoit: Sunk by Sens in season debut
Brossoit turned aside 17 of 23 shots in Sunday's 7-4 loss to Ottawa, with the Senators' final goal getting scored into an empty net.
With Yaroslav Askarov (lower body) sidelined, Brossoit was called up from the AHL and made his first NHL start since April 18, 2024, when he was still a member of the Jets. The 32-year-old netminder's return to the top level of hockey didn't go particularly well, however, and the tone for the game was set when Brossoit watched his own defenseman, Mario Ferraro, tap the puck past him for Ottawa's first goal, credited to Drake Batherson. Askarov's injury doesn't appear to be serious, and with the Sharks having no more back-to-backs sets on their schedule until early April, this could wind up being Brossoit's only NHL appearance before the end of the season.

Sharks' Laurent Brossoit: Returns to NHL net
Brossoit will get the start in goal for Sunday's contest against the Senators, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
It will be the first NHL start for Brossoit since April of 2024. Since then, the 32-year-old has battled injuries and spent some time in the minors since a midseason trade from Chicago. He's finally back in an NHL crease for the Sharks, who are on the second of a back-to-back and still without Yaroslav Askarov (lower body). Brossoit has an 11-2-1 record with a 2.48 GAA and a .915 save percentage with AHL San Jose.

Sharks' Laurent Brossoit: Summoned from AHL
Brossoit was recalled from AHL San Jose on Friday.
The move was made necessary when Yaroslav Askarov tweaked something Thursday, forcing the Sharks to suit up emergency backup goaltender Kyle Chauvette, who was signed to an amateur tryout prior to Thursday's tilt in Boston. Brossoit is 11-2-1 with a 2.48 GAA and .915 save percentage for AHL San Jose this season. He is expected to back up Alex Nedeljkovic on Saturday in Montreal.

Sharks' Laurent Brossoit: Dealt Thursday
Brossoit, Nolan Allan and a 2028 seven-round pick were acquired by San Jose from Chicago on Thursday in exchange for Ryan Ellis, Jake Furlong and a 2028 fourth-round selection, per Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times.
Brossoit has a 3.38 GAA and a .901 save percentage in six appearances with AHL Rockford in 2025-26. He hasn't played in the NHL this campaign. Yaroslav Askarov and Alex Nedeljkovic have struggled in 2025-26 -- the Sharks rank 30th in goals per game with 3.49 -- so there might be an opportunity for Brossoit to get a shot in the NHL with his new organization. For now, though, Brossoit is projected to remain in the minors.

Blackhawks' Laurent Brossoit: Returns from conditioning stint
Brossoit (hip) rejoined the Blackhawks on Monday following his conditioning stint with AHL Rockford, Charlie Roumeliotis of WGN Radio reports.
Brossoit made three appearances for the IceHogs, in which he went 2-1-0 with a .900 save percentage -- though it will be the goalie goal that stands out the most from his time in the minors. At this point, when Brossoit might get into the crease for the Blackhawks remains to be seen, but he should eventually break into the rotation with Spencer Knight and Arvid Soderblom now that his hip problem is behind him.

Brossoit will be placed on waivers Monday, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Brossoit rejoined the Blackhawks on Monday following a conditioning stint with AHL Rockford, but head coach Jeff Blashill said that the netminder will be sent back to the minors if he clears waivers. Brossoit hasn't appeared in an NHL game since the 2023-24 campaign, but if he remains in the organization, he'll presumably be the first option to be called up if Chicago needs an additional goaltender.

Blackhawks' Laurent Brossoit: Goalie goal in AHL win
Brossoit (hip) stopped 33 of 36 shots and scored a goal in AHL Rockford's 5-3 win over Milwaukee on Friday.
Brossoit has gone 2-1-0 with 10 goals allowed on 100 shots over his first three games on his conditioning loan. He was loaned Dec. 2 and can stay with the IceHogs for two weeks, so he is starting to run out of time. The Blackhawks are looking for a change of scenery for the netminder, who is coming off surgeries on his knee and hip that have kept him out of action since April of 2024. If no trade can be arranged, he could be waived to stay with Rockford, though it doesn't look like he'll immediately be in contention for NHL action.

Blackhawks' Laurent Brossoit: Taken off non-roster injured reserve
Brossoit (hip) was activated off non-roster injured reserve and sent down to AHL Rockford on a conditioning assignment Tuesday.
Brossoit likely will get into a game against AHL Colorado on Friday or Saturday and could spend up to two weeks with the minor-league club. This is a step in the right direction for the backstop, who hasn't appeared in a game since a playoff appearance April 28, 2024, versus the Avalanche.

Brossoit missed all of the 2024-25 campaign due to a knee injury and is now recovering from a hip procedure that is slated to cost him considerable time this season. Brossoit missed the entirety of the 2024-25 campaign due to a knee issue. He has one more season left on his two-year, $6.6 million contract. Brossoit has been battling a knee injury that required surgery in November, which followed a previous surgery to address a torn meniscus in August. The 31-year-old looks to have lost the whole season at this point, though the Blackhawks are not hurting for goaltenders after acquiring Spencer Knight in a trade that sent Seth Jones to the Panthers. Brossoit is under contract for 2025-26, but he may end up in the minors since both Petr Mrazek and Knight are also under contract.

Blackhawks' Laurent Brossoit: Could return this season
General manager Kyle Davidson said Monday that he's hopeful that Brossoit (knee) will be able to return at some point this season, Charlie Roumeliotis of WGN Radio reports.
Brossoit has dealt with a knee injury since the start of the regular season, and he's been out indefinitely after undergoing a procedure in late November. Although the Blackhawks haven't been particularly competitive this season, Davidson still maintains hope that Brossoit will be back in game action sometime during the final two and a half months of the regular season. Brossoit may not see considerable playing time if he's able to return, as Davidson also said Monday that he wouldn't be concerned with carrying three goaltenders on the active roster.

Blackhawks' Laurent Brossoit: Out six more weeks
Per Scott Powers of The Athletic on Friday, Brossoit had another procedure on his knee and will be out of action for six weeks, according to coach Luke Richardson.
Brossoit underwent his original surgery Aug. 27 and was in need of another operation. Brossoit has yet to appear in a Chicago uniform this season after signing as an unrestricted free agent July 1. Per Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times, Brossoit (knee) will remain out indefinitely, coach Luke Richardson said Saturday.
Brossoit underwent surgery Aug. 27, and he was expected to need seven weeks to recover. Richardson said it has taken way longer than initially projected, and there is currently no timetable for his return. Blackhawks' Laurent Brossoit: Won't travel with team
Head coach Luke Richardson said Thursday that Brossoit (knee) won't travel with the Blackhawks for the start of their upcoming road trip, which begins Saturday in Dallas, Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
While Brossoit won't be with the team for the start of the road trip, Richardson said that the goalie could join the Blackhawks in San Jose ahead of their Oct. 31 matchup against the Sharks since Chicago will have more practice time at that point. The Blackhawks are set to play Tuesday in Utah, Oct. 11 in Winnipeg, Oct. 12 in Edmonton and Oct. 15 in Calgary before making their home debut Oct. 17 against the Sharks. Brossoit had a 15-5-2 record, 2.00 GAA and .927 save percentage in 23 regular-season contests with Winnipeg in 2023-24. When he's healthy, Brossoit will fight with Petr Mrazek for starts, but because Brossoit isn't expected to be available for Opening Night, Arvid Soderblom is likely to enter the season as Chicago's No. 2 netminder behind Mrazek. Once Brossoit is healthy, Soderblom might be sent to the minors, but it's also possible Chicago will opt to carry three goaltenders.
