  • Maple Leafs' Dakota Mermis: Heads to LTIR

Mermis (jaw) was placed on long-term injured reserve Monday. Mermis underwent jaw surgery in late September and will miss the first several weeks of the regular season while he recovers. He was expected to compete for a depth spot on Toronto's blue line prior to his procedure, but he could be forced to spend time in the minors when he's back to full health. The 30-year-old made a career-high 47 appearances in the NHL with the Wild last year, totaling three goals, 59 blocked shots and 45 hits while averaging 14:05 of ice time.

Mermis is up to seven points, 31 shots on net, 41 blocked shots, 25 PIM, 21 hits and a minus-2 rating over 33 appearances this season. While he's been a regular in the lineup, the 30-year-old is unlikely to produce enough offense to help most fantasy managers.
