Red Wings' Ville Husso: First win of season
Husso made 23 saves in a 4-2 win over Toronto on Saturday.
Husso benefitted from a committed team in front of him and made some key stops to secure his first win of 2024-25. He has a 1-4-2 record with a 3.47 GAA and an .877 save percentage through eight appearances. Husso must have more performances like this one with Cam Talbot (lower body) sidelined and Alex Lyon (lower body) on the IR.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Set to start against Toronto
Husso will serve as the starting goaltender for Saturday's home game against the Maple Leafs, Daniella Bruce of the Red Wings' official site reports.
The Red Wings are dealing with several injuries among their goaltenders, as Alex Lyon (lower body) remains on injured reserve, while Cam Talbot exited Friday's practice session due to a lower-body injury and won't be available Saturday. As a result, Husso will tend the twine at home Saturday, while Detroit will need to call up another netminder to serve as a backup. It's not yet clear whether Talbot will be sidelined beyond Saturday, but the Red Wings hope that Lyon will be able to return at home against the Flyers on Wednesday.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Gets hook Monday
Husso allowed three goals on seven shots before being replaced by Sebastian Cossa to begin the second period of Monday's 6-5 shootout win over the Sabres.
While the netminder didn't have much chance on the last two goals, Zach Benson's tally just 98 seconds into the game definitely qualified as a softie, as Husso got a clean look at a long-range shot but simply left too much of a gap at the near post. Husso has started five straight games but failed to come away with a win in any of them, going 0-2-2 with a 3.31 GAA and an .889 save percentage. If Cam Talbot (lower body) isn't ready to return Thursday in Philadelphia, it wouldn't be a surprise should Cossa get the nod for his first career NHL start.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: In goal Monday
Husso will get the starting nod on the road versus the Sabres on Monday, Heather Engel of NHL.com reports.
Husso still hasn't secured a win this season, going 0-4-2 with a 3.39 GAA in six outings. Still, with Cam Talbot (lower body) and Alex Lyon (lower body) both sidelined, the Red Wings don't have much choice but to continue rolling with Husso in the crease -- unless they want to give Sebastian Cossa his first NHL start.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Extends losing streak
Husso stopped 23 of 25 shots in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Avalanche.
Husso has been forced to step into a starting role with Cam Talbot (lower body) sidelined, and the results haven't been encouraging. The 29-year-old Finnish netminder has yet to win a start this season and has dropped the four straight appearances since Dec. 1, going 0-2-2 with a 2.78 GAA and a .909 save percentage in that span.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Facing Avalanche
Husso will guard the home goal against Colorado on Saturday, per Ansar Khan of MLive.com.
Husso is coming off a 2-1 loss to the Senators on Thursday, turning aside 30 shots. He is 0-3-2 with a 3.69 GAA and an .877 save percentage through five appearances this season. Colorado ranks 12th in the league with 3.26 goals per game in 2024-25.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Extends winless streak
Husso stopped 30 of 32 shots in Thursday's 2-1 loss to the Senators.
Husso has started in five of the nine games he's been available for this season, but the results haven't been encouraging. He's gone 0-3-2 with a 3.69 GAA and an .877 save percentage in his five outings, so the early returns aren't positive. Perhaps the lone positive aspect is that he's posted a save percentage above .900 in his last two starts, but even with his recent success, he's far from being a reliable fantasy alternative.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Starting against Senators
Husso will defend the visiting crease in Ottawa on Thursday, Daniella Bruce of the Red Wings' official site reports.
Husso will make his third straight appearance after replacing the injured Cam Talbot (lower body) against Vancouver on Dec. 1. Husso is still looking for his first win of the season, as he is 0-2-2 with a 4.22 GAA and an .856 save percentage in four NHL games this season. The Senators have found the back of the net 75 times in 24 games (3.13 goals per game).

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Falls to Bruins in OT
Husso made 32 saves in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime loss to Boston.
The Red Wings twice grabbed one-goal leads, but Husso couldn't make them stick, and he had little chance on Pavel Zacha's OT winner. With Alex Lyon (lower body) on IR and Cam Talbot (lower body) sidelined until at least the weekend, Husso figures to hold down the fort in the Detroit crease in the short term. The 29-year-old goalie is still looking for his first win of the season in the NHL, going 0-2-2 in four outings with a 4.22 GAA and .856 save percentage.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Tending twine Tuesday
Husso will defend the road net against Boston on Tuesday, per Daniella Bruce of the Red Wings' official site.
Husso has posted a record of 0-2-1 while stopping 45 of 55 shots in three NHL appearances this season. Due to injuries to Cam Talbot (lower body) and Alex Lyon (lower body), Sebastian Cossa will be Husso's backup goalie versus the Bruins. If Husso continues to struggle and Talbot misses additional time, Cossa could make his NHL debut following his recall from AHL Grand Rapids on Monday since Lyon won't be ready to play in Thursday's road game versus Ottawa, either.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Makes relief appearance Sunday
Husso allowed three goals on 18 shots in Sunday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Canucks.
Husso was forced into action after Cam Talbot exited the game with a lower-body injury. Husso could be Detroit's de facto No. 1 netminder in the short term if Talbot is sidelined for an extended period of time, and Alex Lyon (lower body) has already been ruled out for the team's upcoming two-game road trip. Husso has an 0-2-1 record, .818 save percentage and 4.90 GAA through three appearances this season.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Called up by Detroit
Husso was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids on Wednesday, Sean Shapiro of EP Rinkside reports.
Husso was sent to the minors in mid-November, but he'll rejoin the NHL club ahead of Wednesday's home game against the Flames. Alex Lyon (undisclosed) appeared to tweak something during Wednesday's morning skate, so Husso will be available as Cam Talbot's backup.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Sent down Wednesday
Husso was reassigned to AHL Grand Rapids on Wednesday.
This move suggests Alex Lyon (lower body) will be cleared to at least serve as the backup for Friday's game in Anaheim. Husso made one appearance during this stint in the NHL, allowing three goals on 23 shots in a 4-0 loss to the Rangers last Saturday. Lyon and Cam Talbot will be the Red Wings' NHL goaltending duo moving forward.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Gets no help in return to Wings
Husso turned aside 20 of 23 shots in Saturday's 4-0 loss to the Rangers, with New York's final goal getting scored into an empty net.
Making his first NHL appearances since Oct. 10, Husso got very little help from his teammates as the Blueshirts scored on the power play midway through the first period and never looked back. Husso was called up from AHL Grand Rapids on an emergency basis with Alex Lyon (lower body) unavailable and Cam Talbot having played the night before, and he'll likely stick around as Talbot's backup until Lyon is cleared for action. Husso has given up seven goals on 37 shots for Detroit this season, but he's posted a 1.23 GAA and .958 save percentage in three appearances for Grand Rapids.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Tending twine Saturday
Husso will be between the home pipes against the Rangers on Saturday, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
Husso was recalled under emergency conditions after Alex Lyon, who was originally scheduled to start versus the Maple Leafs on Friday, suffered a lower-body injury. With a back-to-back on the schedule, the Red Wings will turn to Cam Talbot for Friday's contest before pressing Husso into service versus the Rangers on Saturday. In his lone NHL appearance this year, the 29-year-old HUsso gave up four goals on 14 shots (.714 save percentage) before being pulled from the crease versus the Penguins on Oct. 10. Once Lyon is cleared to return, Husso will likely be shipped back to the minors.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Called up from minors
Husso was recalled from AHL Grand Rapids under emergency conditions Friday.
According to Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press, the Red Wings are dealing with a flu bug going around the team. As such, the decision to bring up Husso could be an indication that Alex Lyon, who is scheduled to start, or Cam Talbot is under the weather ahead of Friday's matchup with Toronto. Either way, fantasy players shouldn't be expecting Husso to feature against the Leafs on Friday -- though with a back-to-back, it's not out of the question that he would be pressed into service versus the Rangers at home Saturday.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Lands on waivers
Husso was placed on waivers Sunday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Husso allowed four goals on 14 shots in Thursday's 6-3 loss to Pittsburgh before being replaced by Cam Talbot early in the second period. If the 29-year-old Husso goes unclaimed from the waiver wire, he could head to AHL Grand Rapids. Detroit still has Talbot and Alex Lyon on the roster to occupy the top two goalie spots.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Stumbles out of gate
Husso allowed four goals on 14 shots Thursday before being replaced by Cam Talbot early in the second period. Detroit lost 6-3 to Pittsburgh.
Sure, the Wings D was porous, but at some point, Husso needs to step into the role or leave. It took less than a period for Wings fans to explode in fury on social media with this performance. Husso showed such promise in St. Louis, but has never been able to fulfill it in Detroit. Beware your fantasy bottom line if you rely on him. He could end up at the end of the bench... or worse.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Set to start Thursday
Husso will serve as the starting goaltender in Thursday's Opening Night matchup at home against the Penguins, Max Bultman of The Athletic reports.
Husso struggled during the 2023-24 campaign, posting a 9-5-2 record, 3.55 GAA and .892 save percentage over 19 appearances. However, he had a strong preseason this year and will be in the home crease for the Red Wings' regular-season opener. It seems likely that Cam Talbot will still be the team's No. 1 option at goalie this year, but Husso could make a push from playing time if he has a bounce-back campaign.

Red Wings' Ville Husso: Best player on ice
Husso stopped 30 shots in a 3-2 preseason loss to Toronto on Saturday.
Husso was Detroit's best player in the game, which was even more impressive because the Leafs dressed a star-laden roster. It was Husso's second game of the week, which could be seen as preparation for the start of the regular season. He's put the injury woes that kept him out of two-thirds of Detroit's games last season behind him.
